Tim59
For as horrifically bad SH, DD, & to some extent TC are, this song is the complete opposite. I haven't been this obsessed over a Muse song in some time. It's exactly what I had been hoping for with this Muse 80s style they've been trying to do. Vocals are basically Dead Inside mixed with Micro Cuts Also, Panic Station immediately after Dark Side is an incredible combo imo. Vocals remind me more of Exogenesis part 1 than Micro Cuts. A really vital part of MC's sound for me is the slight distortion of the vocals. Edit. another edition to the 'sounds like' list Edited August 31, 2018 by Tim59
MAurelia
I like The Dark Side very much. In my opinion, it’s the best of the four singles. I was so hyped after listening to it that I pre-order the album. This is the sound that I was waiting for. Amazing!
Hat
Well, thankfully they didn't name the song "Break Me Out".Aw shit, haven't seen you in years.
FabriPav
The track is decent (at best), but who's producing this album? It all sounds so dull, lifeless and safe.
Citizen_Eraser
Oh shit The Gallery’s arpeggio is a surprisingly good shout actually Or a more upbeat fleshed out We are the Universe.
TheSmallPrint02
Not sure if anyone's asked this yet, but what do we think the Alternate Reality version of The Dark Side is going to be like? Personally I think it's going to be a shit ton of synthesizers and robotic voices.

altbecky
I kind of agree about the production but the song itself is pretty great imo.
Howardm93
Massively strong song imo... Getting some ghost vibes if you want to add it to your list Tjet. Pretty hyped for the album in all honesty. My hopes are high.

topo_musero
. Those are an awful lot of comparisons. Some vocal deliveries remind me of Darkshines though. Agree about the production not being really good, but I'm not really a fan of Muse's albums production generally. Even BH&R, which is my favourite Muse album, is not particularly good. Well, it's actually pretty bad Edited August 31, 2018 by topo_musero

OriginOfAbso
I actually did think of that part in Glorious when I heard it though, I wasn't looking for comparisons. As of now I like this better than everything on Drones except Dead Inside and The Handler, without question.

OriginOfAbso
I mean I honestly couldn't care less if my comparison was added, someone just asked for them and I gave one that I had recognized yesterday. I was just talking about that one bit, which I thought some of you may agree.

Might prefer this one a bit more though. And, yes, I still love Revolt
kueller
So I still can't really tell if guitar is ever playing in unison with the synth.

They can stand up against anything in their entire catalog imo so I agree 100%. But a lot of times fans love a song at release and by next album cycle people think it’s average. Citizen_Eraser
I definitely hear a guitar. You'd know better than me though. I think the post chorus/pre verse synth arppegio is actually a guitar and bass for what it’s worth. With headphones I think I can hear fretting and plucking in their subtly. Hat
Well then if I'm confused oh no. I hear the guitar just playing single downstroke chords at 1:00 for example.

I can still listen to those 2 and get chills. They're nothing alike, but what they have in common that is a major reason they're so great is Matt's emotional delivery. That's the biggest difference in what separates a lot of "old Muse" and "new Muse."
kueller
I hear the chords of course but it's that unison that gets me. It does sound like guitar (especially considering the solo) but it's a weird mix where the synth already sounds guitar like and the guitar sounds synth like. Wanna see how it works live.
