  3. "Guiding Light (On Jeff’s Guitar)" Like he knew the guy.... I'm curious though, definitely want to give that a listen, odd addition as it may be. Now TAB four hands piano... with sheet music... I want!! (Just gotta find an extra pair of hands)
  4. It was, the setlist anagrams were the high point for sure (in the Main Muse section anyway). Too bad that board crashed and everything was lost. Apparently those Italian Muse blogs are a bit sturdier, if posts from 2004 are still around. EDIT: I tried to find those old threads in the Wayback Machine. I can see the thread title "New Songs" but sadly the insides haven't been archived. Bummer.
  5. Ha! I remember this! This was when they were touring the US at the tail end of the Absolution tour. The time of the setlist anagrams. They introduced early versions of Assassin, Glorious, Crying Shame and Exo Politics to the crowds in this period. There were muffled recordings going around, and the board tried to decipher them. These four new songs kept having different names on the set list, a direct communication between the band and the board. Song names were anagrams, which were just fun at first and later turned into a bit of a treasure hunt. (This is where Debase Mason's Grog comes from, for example, a name used for Assassin that's an anagram of Message Board Song.) Anyway, Glorious at the time was listed as New Song (DES) on the setlist. This was not an anagram, but a note to their roadie, Des, that he had to set something up for that song (A specific tuning for the guitar or something, I don't remember). I speculated that it stood for Dead End Street and trolled the board into thinking that was the actual title. It stuck around for a while. I even heard an anecdote that the band picked up on it and started calling their roadie Des "Dead End Street" for a bit. Anyway, back to those muffled recordings. In the threads for the new songs there were multiple serious and trolling attempts to decipher the lyrics. Someone heard Pee Candle in Exo Politics, and that was the Muser name for that song for a while. As for Glorious (Or Dead End Street ), there were many different people trying to decipher a very muffled early recording, and the above interpretation was definitely mine. Anyway, that's the story kids. Funny this made its onto a lyrics site.

  7. Haha. Somehow that didn’t come out too creepy. Although I never realized that problematic Pocahontas verse in the song.
  8. I appreciate and enjoy it. Would be very nice to see live in an intimate setting. I suppose, when commenting on a cover, one has to mention how it compares to the original, and this doesn't come close, but that's totally ok. For some reason I've rarely been on board with Matt's post-BHaR sincere voice and this is not one of the exceptions. Must be a personal thing, it's not a judgement of quality by any means. Anyway, I'm very happy with his 2020 solo releases, keep them coming!
  9. Funny how when you're young spending your entire life savings on something like that makes more sense than spending just a fraction of your income on it when you're older.
  10. I see this as a home recording, not really a single or official release, and in that context I find the voice and recording quality endearing. I don't see it as an attempt to change or improve the original song, but more like a social media post sharing what he's playing around with and what resonates with him emotionally at the moment.
  11. I see, yeah, I misread that. I too prefer the more fragile effortless falsetto in the original, but those days are gone and that's fine. I don't think this version sounds too forced, only the "had before" bit sounds like he's pushing it a bit. Overall, I prefer these vocals to his sound in a lot of Muse's recent work.

  13. Oh, I like it! I'm not bothered by his voice at all, for a change, sounds great! It doesn't have that constipated intensity he's giving his ballads in the last few years. The ooohs are a bit harsher than the original for sure, but I think it only stands out because I'm so used to the original. I like it!
  14. Is it weird that he's releasing this der his own name, considering that it's a Muse song? I suppose it would be weird to release is as Muse as well...
  15. I don't think Matt is incapable of expressing emotions in his music, but that doesn't constitute "soul", however subjective that term may be. He used to do anger pretty well, and a sense of alienation or angst. That certainly connected with me on an emotional level. But it's soul that made even Buckley's saddest songs have a hint of sexiness. He made his guitar sing. I'd say Falling Down is the song that comes closest to Matt successfully approximating that idea of soul. And I love the song, he almost pulls it off. I'd love it if using Buckley's guitar puts him back into a spot of trying to convey his emotions through good songwriting and honest three-piece playing. For me though, the question is if he can get close enough to his own emotions to do that, or if his current emotions are interesting enough to share, since his life and songwriting have gone a bit Hollywood.
  16. That's cool! I know he was a big influence on Matt back in the day. I'm not sure Matt can ever get out of that guitar what Buckley could though. Buckley had soul, and no matter how many times Matt uses the word 'soul' in his lyrics, that's something Muse just never had.
  17. Tour hiatus is good. And isolation may be a creative impulse as well, even if Matt and Dom are done isolating and back in the hot tub together already. Maybe Chris can crank out a solo album in the mean time. Or a few mor kids.

  19. Good! It’s great. It’s really just the same singing style that has been bothering me now for every album since the Resistance. I think this song is mostly comparable to Blackout (which I love), lyrics-wise too. I just like that era more because of the more pinched, more untrained vocals, which somehow make it sound like he’s taking himself less seriously. Anyway, I’m grateful for a new piano song, and indeed, I’m ready for a Matt solo album (with some instrumental tracks).

  21. Since it was apparently released on some streaming services and not illegally leaked, I don't mind listening to it. It's... alright, I like the instrumentation. But it has that uncomfortable "Matt's sincerely whispering bad lyrics in my ear" feeling.
  22. Yup, it's Matt-by-numbers until the very end of the clip when he throws in some Twin-Peaksy curveballs. Which could turn out pretty cool.
  23. Someone please let him do a full film score already! Pretty neat! I hope I don't insult him when I express the hope that this one remains instrumental. EDIT: Oh well, he mentioned it's him on piano and singing and the BBC orchestra doing the rest, apparently. Still exciting.
