Carbo
On first listen I like it a lot more than Psycho, which mostly left me "eh". Very catchy. Has a nice beat to it. The final segment is also really pretty.
Boogles.
This board though. Oh my. You guys.
That_Italian_Guy
Psycho would've been a better opener after all
Peter.
the chord progression in the beginning of the second part is the same as nightwish's kiteen palo.
kueller
What if, as an album, it starts off like this, and by the end of it, Drones is a 15 minute industrial monster? Raw Muse. Considering Psycho comes after this it'll probably jump back and forth.
Priad-Luabe
What if, as an album, it starts off like this, and by the end of it, Drones is a 15 minute industrial monster? Raw Muse. I think the end will be more symphonic/sombre, with heavy epic progness in the middle, and this cheesy gyration song to start.
Alec Ferris
dunno, I kinda like it, the second part especially. the lyrics aren't even bad except for "the greatest guy" line.. What about that one about magic? This was too campy and glossy to match the theme, too. Something closer to Conscience would have been much better suited. HomesickSubterranean
The only thing worse than fans complaining that the song didn't meet their expectations are the people who complain about those fans..
-FutureStar-
I just want to point out, AGAIN: You all hyped it too much, and if you're disappointed don't fucking come crying now. Exactly. Muse are unpredictable.
Wickerman
Well... the bass/groove is a nanotiny bit similar to Sign O' The Times indeed...
Mitton
deffo not an album opener or a lead single but i reckon its class, very very depeche mode indeed
OriAr
I love it! Also, good luck convincing me that It isn't about Matt's break up with Kate.
MandyFlowers
the bit when he starts singing 'feel me now' could have used a vocal harmony, an octave higher or lower or am i wanting this song to sound like Madness? Guys, Dead Inside is making me want to listen to Madness over and over again.
blinkin fightuse
This is nothing like their cover of Sign o' the Times, that was good and sounded fantastic. I wish Dead Inside sounded even remotely like that.
beeSides
I am not cringing. I am not bleeding from the ears. I am not laughing from discomfort. Feeling horribly bad for poor Matthew though. He sounds so earnest
c0nor
My problem isn't that it's a pop song, it's that it's a pop song that is generic and musically poor. You know a song is shit when it uses the old vi-iv-i-v progression (bridge).
crushpunch
maybe this is the the 2 law part 2 Supremacy> Pyscho Reapers> Animals Madness> Dead Inside
Claudia O
Let's wait how it sounds live! I can read the shit magazines headlines "new song by muse! Has it anything to to with Kate H.?" Omg, no...but they will write it for sure the ones who don't get the story of the album...
-FutureStar-
maybe this is the the 2 law part 2 Supremacy> Pyscho Reapers> Animals Madness> Dead Inside All of those are the wrong way round, IMO.
Alec Ferris
A heavy song definitely wouldn't be fitting the "story" But it would. This is meant to be the character at a point of being broken down.
Dee3Dee
It's like JJ pointed out though, this is the opening track that's supposed to send the main character into a dark spiral, so presumably the rest could very well be straight rock. No need to shit your pants just yet, you noobs.

frutiger75
muse have, and always will, create divisive songs. [most?] are good-to-great; some are poor-to-downright-shit. most songs attempt to be 'fan-serving' in some respect; that means that certain fans will be elated with new material, while others will respond by emitting steaming farts...or the like. roles can/will be reversed for all future material that's released. if you're on this board, the chances are rather high that, as a muse fan, you have (generally) agreed to accept the facts/terms above. long story short: have a can of air freshener handy, and use it liberally -- as needed.
