Peter.
Don't know if anyone's said this yet, maybe it's just the video but I'm getting a major Bond theme reject vibe from this song. a couple of people mentioned that and I simply can't imagine why... there's absolutely nothing bond-ish about it. Hat
And you seem to be assuming that I was trying to make a statistically valid scientific conclusion that could withstand a peer review board. It was just a tongue-in-cheek comment on an internet message board. We're comparing Muse to Taylor Swift and U2 here, not trying to cure cancer. Then why have you been defending it? You have stated in SEVERAL posts that you think you can judge the fanbase from a handful of posts. You shouldn't need to have a scientific study to figure out that you're way off. CatchHellBlues
a couple of people mentioned that and I simply can't imagine why... there's absolutely nothing bond-ish about it. The video was kinda Goldfinger-esque from what I remember of it.

Hopix
First listen today after being rather quite shocked by the reveal on R1. Really like it now, personal coherent lyrics, nice synths and bass work, decent guitar, blends quite nicely into Psycho too as many have said. Dee3Dee
I interpreted the lyrics as being about people being perceived one way to the outside world while trying to hide the chaos within them, and it's two damaged people in a damaged relationship. The main character is obviously in pain. I'm not even bothered by the poorly written lyrics, because the song still comes across as really dark to me. I dunno, it's basically Showbiz hidden inside a dark love song. Pretty meta.

MuseMarc
Yes, you have understood the meaning of the word taught, but I don't think you understand the context. He's talking about becoming like her, dead inside. Lying without a trace means to be a good liar, which is what he considered her. It really isn't about becoming a better person or taking the blame or anything like that. That second part is just a mystery to me. Yeah I know that's not really the purpose of that line. It's more about him saying he's not what others perceive him as. But others parts of the song, as you can see in my spoiler tagged breakdown, are basically about him giving everything and not getting anything back. That's what I was referring to. Which is perfectly showing so many relationships ending and man reacting but here he is doing something different he is also blaming himself and he is saying that he is dead inside aswell In IRL most man say that she made them dead inside. Huge difference after hours of listening to crying friends if you ask me.

LewisF
The lyrics are great imo, except for the "greatest guy" part, which doesn't even bother me too much tbh.
Hopix
Greatest Guy line doesn't bother me at all, but what's the "my lips are warm to the touch" bit about?
Alec Ferris
I love a lot of their new stuff, old stuff, and pop stuff, and there are only a handful of Muse songs that I genuinely dislike. This happens to be one of them now. Pretty much this. I think people got the Bond vibe from the video rather than the actual song. I'm now imagining this getting shoehorned into the end of Casino Royale. No, no.
topo_musero
I don't think the lyrics are that bad. In fact, I think they are great. I like how Matt represents the process of "becoming a drone" and how the lyrics of that last part ("My lips feel warm to the touch") are related to those of the first part ("Your lips feel warm to the touch"). I admit it's the part that makes me more emotional, I feel really bad for the character of this song . Although the "greatest guy" part could be better And, of course, I like it way more than Taylor Swift

Clunge
I'm sold. Completely sold. It's everything I love about all Muse's flirts with electronic music, R&B, pop, etc, etc, etc, all distilled into one explosion of all of it in one go. I also think the two halves of the song are equally brilliant. I really like the sparseness of the first two minutes, and then the kitchen sink approach on the second half. . CoolFunkMan
Bloody hell, I forgot how fast these forum threads move. Madness over-produced? It's so bare-bones. Yep. If anything it's the other way around. The production ruins this song for me more than anything else I think. Sorry, that's actually a fair point. What I meant to say was, the synths were too dominant. In fact, this... You can still hear MUSE through it though. ... is what I meant. In my opinion, Madness sounded nothing like Muse (apart from the second half.) There were far too many synths for my liking, and I find the delivery of Matt's vocals much better in Dead Inside. At least with Dead Inside, the synths are more of a background element, with the occasional upfront sound effect. The band is still prominent throughout, which is why I prefer this. Can't beat pre release banter. Every bloody time. Let's just all skip buying the album and all assume it's going to be shit. I like my glass to be half full. Hang on, I felt this way with Resistance and that turned out to be shit. Oh i dont know. Thank you Some people say the glass is half full, some say it's half empty. I say, are you going to drink that?
Dee3Dee
The chorus melody with Matt's delivery is actually insanely good. Can't get enough of it.

Nigel_Tufnel
Why does it always come down to "yeah but this is the internet, stop being so serious!"? It's rather sad imo. It's not so much the internet that absolves the conversation of being serious as much as the topic, for me at least. We're talking about a song (or whatever we're talking about at this point) and it's not really worth arguing over.

GodNeverPaid
Nah you're a fake fan, I mean you don't even have an avatar. I also enjoy a big variety of music. That has nothing to do with anything. ... Reminds me that I need to get a fucking avatar! EDIT: Done! I just find that what makes Muse special is their variety - and seeing fans not liking something just because it not their "genre" weirds me out. I mean, just look at half the comments on Dead Inside... By the way, that post was not directed at anyone in particular thoughe people seem to think so... Otherwise, I would've quoted people and stuff. Edited March 24, 2015 by GodNeverPaid
Mattestro
Fuck, it's a grower. I really like the lyrics, matches the theme of the music in the sense that the meaning is dark, but it is disguised as an upbeat song. Probably better than the lead singles for the past 3 albums. The only thing that I'm not sure about, is that it is the album opener, lyrically it makes sense, but musically Edited March 24, 2015 by mattestro.
