I think it was before one of the LA gigs and only instrumental, but yeah, they could just completely ignore what they are sound checking and just play Guiding Light a whole bunch of times. They'll play a rarity in soundcheck, and then not play it at the show. To me, it's a silly practice, but if it works for them, then it works for them.
