As bad as PHX...

Basically if you strip the gimmicks and the novelties like the ufo there is nothing in there that i haven't seen before. It felt like same old, same old

:(

Sorry you feel that way but you know I'd probably agree with you. I was gutted after the PHX/Vegas gigs. It's not the same anymore.

I hope tonight goes better because last night was bad... I was srsly unimpressed by the band and the crowd.

crikey were we at the same gig? i thought the band were great! looked like they were really enjoying it. actually i did have some issues with the crowd i got the impression that they didnt know what to expect and there was not much boinging about in my area which was close to you as it turned out but there was huffing which i just ignored. heat kitchen etc.

do you think some of how you feel about thegig was coloured by your poor experience at the gte? it would be hard not to let that affect you.

i didnt like the ufo. looked like a saggy old balloon :LOL: matts light up suit is even better in the flesh than on video though;

it sounds like youre bored of muse really. sameold is the band playin so theres not much that can be done about that. i still get a massive energy rush when i see them live and thats why i still love them so:happy: mind you due to getting rather overenergised last night; i may requiresome extra help from coffee painkillers and beer tonight

ha ive just remembered the peoples faces around me when i let out a yeeeeha duringoc in an affort to get them to boing. it all got a bit shovy at that point(not started by me i hasten to add though i will give as good as i get) and was brilliant

hi guys, i'm really sad to say this but i feel the same as L.

well a muse live is always amazing and it was, i enjoyed it BUT i agree that we see all the same old things... for example, when Matt is going to the extreme right of the scene, it's to play Time is runnin out, when we see chris harmonica then we know that it's Knights of Cydonia time and that it will be the last song of the show... and instead of I belong to you and Neutron star collision, it's always the same playlist... i mean why did we have to vote for the setlists? it's always the same old songs from Showbiz and OoS that are played (Plug in baby, New born, Unintended...) i was hoping for something like Citizen Erazed... hmmf... maybe tonight! :)

I guess if you see any band live enough times, there's going to come a time when you have seen it all before; that shouldn't mean it stops being enjoyable though, I mean, I've seen thousands of sunsets but I still enjoy them.

I wasn't there but I think the setlist was/is a bit disappointing - Neutron Star and Guiding Light together? They are quite similar, and Feeling Good still in there? I really thought they would have changed things around for their second time around europe; they've changed the set big time but not the set list. The introduction of IBTY is not that exciting (except for Twilight fans maybe!) With a stadium gig I was really hoping for the whole of Exogenesis with an orchestra - that has got to happen someday (hopefully Sept 11th!) otherwise just a bit more variety (and some more off OoS). Citizen Erased seems to fit in with the whole 1984 thing so I'm surprised it hasn't crept in a little more. They seem to be slowly travelling towards the middle of the road... reminds me very much of the path that Queen took. :( I still love them though.;)

That was the bit I picked up on too. IBTY for me is a brilliant album song and that has nothing to do with a version of it ending up in Twilight.

As for the other complaints, like people have said, I think some fans are just going to see Muse too much. Any addiction becomes deadening in the end because it's never going to be enough. Also it's like a ballet, graceful from a distance, but when you see it close up you can hear the heaviness as the dancers feet hit the ground and how out of breath they are. You know too much and see too much and it's detracting from the magic.

Some of it is about musical choices but I very much doubt they are going back. It seems to me that this is where Muse want to be. And any changes they make provide five minutes of excitement and then get old quick for those who go to practically every performance.

That's what I was thinking a few minutes ago. Everyone seemed excited that NSC and IBTY showed up at the Casino show in Paris last month, then by the time Muse played in Switzerland both songs were already old news.

I'm more a lurker here but I read that some people go to almost every gig in europe and that's why you get bored of them, especially about the stadium gigs wich I understand that they can't change much of it, because of all the structure of the stage.

I bet that we (I'm from Argentina :( ) who can see them just one or two times in 3 years will have nothing to complain about. You have gigs every year and can travel to see them in other countrys too, so It's obvious that you will get the same things.. they will not change all the stage and structure for a small group of fans that chasing them around the world :p

(awful english, sorry :$)

EDIT: Argentina 1 x 0 :awesome:

I saw them 18 times and I'm far from bored of them. I just can't expect to be as surprised as i were in the beginning, and I guess that's what too many people ask for and then act like if they've seen it all. (i have to add that even if i'm not expecting it, I'm still surprised by Muse. a lot and in a good way)

sorry for the queues stuff :( not only it ruined the chance for a barrier spot, but it also played a major role in your enjoyment of the gig.

yes to all this.

i think it's dead obvious too but i think some people fail to see it and blame the band for it instead of taking a good look in the mirror and wonder WHY are they having the reactions they do. it's always easier to blame the industry and the others for how you feel about an artist ;)

muse were never perfect and they will never be. if you no longer feel excited by them, that's a shame, but it doesnt necessarily mean it's the band's fault. if anything i think you can tell they are putting all of themselves into what they do and judging by the massive smiles on stage and etc, the are loving it. and im glad they do, because i dont want the band to feel like playing live is a chore - because that would translate in the performances.

i still feel uber excited by them (my god, i was a nutter at RIR the other day!) although i've seen them 3 times in the past year and im looking forward to wembley!

(though i doubt it will top san siro!)

I agree with you. Most fans on here do too many Muse gigs. As a result, it seems they review the same old gigs wherever they go and it's normal. If you only did one or 2 gigs once a year, you would appreciate them more. They can't make a new album every year otherwise maybe you would change your mind about them. I went to Casino de Paris a few weeks ago and now i'm going to the tonight gig. Before those gigs, I saw them last year in Paris for the first time.

Completely agree with this.

It's like the people who spoil every detail and still go there expecting surprises.

People, I can surprise you much. But: there are another bands but Muse in the world. You don't need to visit 10 Muse gigs per year. No-one told you have to:) Especially strange if you visit two nights in the row in the same place
i dont think there's anything wrong with watching the same band two nights in a row :p

actually, i dont think there's anything wrong with seeing them many times and obsess over them in the internet.

the thing is, you have to be aware of consequences that brings.

and this is why i feel that much of the backlash the band gets here is unfair - most people cant tell the difference between what is a genuine, fair criticism and what is a comment stemmed by obsessive fan behaviour (that is certainly not the band's fault).

there is no obsession that can survive this level of examination and scrutiny.

As someone who isn't a fan of seeing bands more than once per tour i can't see how people could go over ten times etc. However with the sets its not just that they aren't changing it up on this tour, it's that alongside it out of their vast back catalogue they're bringing out the same 9 songs that have been on pretty much every setlist since the songs were written. Nothing else really gets a look in bar the very occasional gig. That to me seems like such a missed opportunity. Nothing to do with being an obsessive internet fan, just severe disappointment that one of the most exciting bands of my generation takes such a boring approach to what to play at shows. Yes they emphasise stage set up etc but they don't need gimmicks as a lot of their music should and is strong enough to wow an audience by itself. /view on the issue

I totally agree with you.

Those who complain, and who, truth be told, have all the right to do so, are the hardcore fans who know the show inside out. The majority of people who go see their shows enjoy it 100%. Even those hardcore fans like me who haven´t seen them many times live do, because watching Muse is always The experience, specially when the crowd is going literally insane singing all the lyrics like at Rock in Rio, where I was, and San Siro.

:)
