Grandma commits suicide, no idea why. Musician doesn't get a record deal, throws a hissy fit. Girl tries to step in front of a train but is saved by magical baby from the future who brings the two people together to ensure its own birth. The guy's band splits up and suddenly he's just as sad and depressed as this girl who's lost her parents and grandma? Also, the magical baby just felt silly. I don't think it's meant to be taken literally. Having a baby makes the couple feel better, more able to cope with the crappy and sad things that have happened in their lives and it feels as if it was always meant to happen.
