  1. Cringy political lyrics might be just what's wanted: here's a segment from Franz Ferdinand's song: 'Those pussy grabbing fingers won’t let go of me now He’s a demagogue He’d like to punch in your face He's a demagogue' I can easily imagine Matt writing something like this.
  2. I imagine they'd have got pretty fired up supporting U2 on the 360 tour back in 2011-12 They've added catwalks. However I must say your post is a bit more interesting than chat about doughnuts. It had a nice picture and I had a little outing into Google Translate
  3. Yes. Matt's voice shows signs of wear; and he's not fit. We've been really lucky in the UK with the number of gigs on offer. OK, age 38 seems young compared with 70, but it's still middle-aged, not young. They have family lives and, presumably, money in the bank. Can't see why they'd want to go on more gruelling tours, stripped back stage or not. I'd rather see them spend their time and effort on some high quality song-writing, not thrashing themselves on the road.
  4. Oh that amount of money is a huge deal to me, I haven't got it, wish I did! And if I did have it I wouldn't waste it on a guitar, I'd get the roof of my house fixed, amongst other things! Yeah I was joking with you, I remember the comments you made about your experience/expense of the gigs you went to.
  5. Was surprised anyone would (could) pay that, is all; it's a free country for people to spend what they want obviously. But 'supporting the cause' of the charity attaches to the donation of the guitar (either promotional or altruistic) by Muse, rather than to the person who bid for it. It's likely she bought it because she wanted it imho. And as you say, why not. Yes. And there are some cringeworthy simple lyrics in the last album (eg Your ass belongs to me). Weirdly though, I was disappointed not to be able to bellow 'And your belly is all yellow' because they didn't play Defector in any of the gigs I went to. I sing that line out v loud at home, it's so ridiculous :$
  6. On a different note a fan has paid £50,000 for one of Matt's smashed guitars from the last night they played at the O2. (Drones Tour so on topic) http://www.itv.com/news/westcountry/2016-09-07/smashed-and-signed-muse-guitar-raises-50k-for-charity/ The fan is called Christina. What I want to know is, is she on here? Not you is it SerpentSatellite?
  7. Yes, got a lot of sympathy for this view (Althusser et al) Well, yes, people like Bono, Sting, and Saint Geldof come to mind. I don't like them for sure because they are holier than thou and hit you over the head with it. I don't feel like that about Muse. They are not preachy. I like singing along about the 'fat cats' and with the revolutionary lyrics of Assassin etc. I don't plan on assassinating anyone but I quite like the idea... Matt doesn't make soapbox speeches. I'm glad he didn't stick his oar in about Brexit at Glasto. He's well-read and curious about the world. That's genuine imo. He uses that in his song-writing. I don't care that he has become wealthy and sings about Drones. They're just songs. And more interesting than endless songs about lurve-gone-wrong-yawn-yawn (plus/minus a dollop of misogyny) which is staple fare of most (rock) bands.
  8. Interesting to me, Mr. Smartypants :p The Radiohead blah blah is well known but I hadn't seen that video before. What I like is that they were such babies then, Matt thought of Radiohead as 'older', like 30, and that Muse was therefore appealing to a younger market. Yeah, what he said might falter from a more jaded perspective, esp as his comments are defensive, but tbf, '30' seems old when you're what, say, 21. And it had a delightful touch of miaow miaow cattiness about it.
  9. Aah yes. Those posts rest on the tension between the traditional anti-authoritarian/political artistic message (esp in Rock musics) and the rich artist who enjoys the spoils of capitalism. Who out of us would be any different in MB's shoes?
