Invincible-Rob Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Hi, I've learned the tabs for this song, but I still can't understand what is used to strum the guitar with... When I play it, I use a plectrum because my fingers make the tone sound cluttered. However, the sound on the song doesn't sound like it's being strummed with a plectrum yet it can have such a clear sound! Any guitar players willing to help? Thanks
Problemfanatique Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 which part? The second half of the solo?
static shadows Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 It really doesn't matter. You need to do what feels and sounds right for you. Guitar playing is about feeling not just mechanical copying! If you're using a pic do it softly though, and either way make sure you use down strokes to get the right vibe (apart from the occasional upstroke when changing chord if I remember right!). And you should have put this in kit and tab, unless you're planning to release a cover version of it.
hyper_chondriac_muser Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I'd love to learn guitar Just to be able play this, my favourite Muse song ! (well, if I'm going that far, I'd prob try to learn some of the more recognised insane riffages too lol).HCM = Best Song EVER! There's my two cents haha! But anyways, to answer the q, I guess it doesn't really matter, but if you're desperate to know, you might wanna ask in Kit & Tab... if you dare!
ChrisirhC Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Down strokes for the acoustic and you'll need roughly the same equipment if you want the distorted guitar sound...to an extent
Rich0 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Just use the corner of your thumb and strum lightly and it should sound right.
ChrisirhC Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I wouldn't use anything thicker than a medium gauge plectrum either
Phill Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 strum over the fretboard too rather than close to the bridge

Thanks Downstrokes using the nail of your index finger, get a similar brightish sound to a plectrum, just without the picking noise.
Luigi. Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Noticing a lot of HM vs. HCM threads and a guitar tab thread for this song, but don't see an appreciation thread for it.The slow beginning, piano bits, chorus, the guitar solo, one of my all time favorite B-sides. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ok4z1-IGIo0 :awesome:
MattC13 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I like both but HM a bit better. HMC is good for sad face time though.
Melania13 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I LOVE HCM because seriously, chills everytime and i feel like i'm flying over earth at sunset, high out of my mind and listening to HM on drugs
MattC13 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 ....woah when I listen to it I suddenly feel cold and different.
rainingradioheads Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 ....woah when I listen to it I suddenly feel cold and different. I know exactly what you mean.
hyper_chondriac_muser Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Best song ever written I can't properly describe the impact this song has on me... it's just sublime and resonates in my mind for ages after I listen to it each time. And it's simply tragically beautiful and haunting. I loves it <3. Thanks for making this Loooong overdue thread !
Gigapoodle Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 YES Â One of Muse's best songs, no doubt. Â *iz appreciating*
Tesseract Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Great song, indeed. It's so easy to just completely lose yourself in this song and just reflect.
naget4music Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I was listening to this on the way home tonight. Takes me back.
spiral_static Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Even better when you play Muscle Muscle #2 before it (no gaps). Now that I'd like to see live.
Indyjones445 Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I honestly prefer this over the original Hyper Music. This one adds so much more depth to the meaning of the song, which is obviously hate.
TrebleRose689 Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I love both versions... it kind of depends what mood I'm in But there's just something so haunting and emotional about this one. It's incredible (but then again, how can you expect any less? )
HenryW7 Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I think this should replace HM on OoS and Dead Star should replace Dark Shines: New Born Bliss Space Dementia Dead Star Plug In Baby Citizen Erased Micro Cuts Piano Thing + Piano Screenager (all 1 song) Feeling Good Hyperchondriac Music MegloMania
