There are plenty poetry that relies on simple verse and diction to get across a message. That being said, the MESSAGE is usually what makes art great, and in auditory art a lot of that comes from the combination of sounds and lyrics (which would go to prove your point about Matt's vocals augmenting the songs). You shouldn't disregard lyrics for being simplistic, but honestly evaluating the lyrics of a song is like evaluating ONLY the color scheme of a painting. Still, a lot of the message can be seen by the lyrics, and I think that a great deal of his songs have messages that to me at least are deep and resonate with a lot of power. That being said some of my favorite lyrics would have to be Hoodoo, Deadstar, Starlight, Screenager, Citizen Erased, Plug in Baby, Escape, Endlessly, Falling Away With You, Ruled by Secrecy.. Er before I list all their discography I'll stop there. One of my friends really is affected by Screenager's lyrics.. they kind of mirror a lot of what has happened to him.
