mipanda
just got sent these pictures - they've put an album together of the wedding photos ahh man I'm so conflicted - do I put myself out there, try to get into wedding photography? If nothing comes of it i'll be crushed. But then, the main competition in town charges $5000 and my photos are better than hers.
naget4music
Do it, your photos are lovely. Wedding photography is big money and once your photos get circulated around the area, people will hear of you. It just might take some time? My sister's photographer is so renown that people change their wedding dates to get her! Also I saw your offbeat bride (I typed upbeat bride which makes me think of hairspray ) article the other week and loved it . edit: her hairstyle is so beautiful, love the flowers! Go for it, as long as you can get by with your gear with rental where needed you are not going to lose anything by it. You can raise your price later when things are going better. ʘ
Can anybody recommend a good compact camera? I'm looking for something I guess either middle of the range or higher, I much much prefer buttons and knobs (LOL) to on screen menus, and like optical zooming and being able to take a nice-ish photo at night Also want video taking capability, can be not amazing (which was the case with my last one) but good enough Don't really know how much I want to spend I got me mum this one: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/digital_cameras/powershot_sx280_hs She's happy. crazybobbles
If I was gonna spend shitloads I've gotten a bit fixated on this one... https://www.eglobalcentral.co.uk/sony-cybershot-dsc-rx100-iii-digital-camera-pal.html#/product/13361 Mostly cause my last (and first) was a canon and it was pretty nice And all the knobs and such And it's usually like the first canon on 'good compact' reviews I really find researching stuff stressful though, so much subtlety, annoying little things you'd only know if you were really into whatever, biased reviews, numbers being irrelevant, numbers being relevant and OK but others being not OK... If money isn't an issue, best compact to get is an x100s or x100t by Fuji All about the retro dials for settings. My go to camera for most occasions including the odd gig

My go to camera for most occasions including the odd gig Yeah, I didn't suggest it as it's quite a bit more expensive. I'd love one; the results are stunning. Bs
Haven't had much time to take any new photos or go back through any old ones lately, but I sorted out this one last night from testing my wideangle lens back in August. Also sorted this one out not too long ago taken back in April, which I really love. I was chasing this bird around with my telephoto lens trying to get it, haha! Alec Ferris
Apologies for the image quality, but I was rather pleased with how this came out. Best viewed in a new tab, without zooming (I took it with my ageing compact, makes me really want to get a new one).

Alec Ferris
I'm fairly hit-and-miss with it, to be honest. Got quite lucky there.
matthijs
A new camera might fix that, you mentioned earlier you wanted one right? Have you decided yet?
Alec Ferris
A new camera might fix that, you mentioned earlier you wanted one right? Have you decided yet? Not sure. Still kinda tempted to replace my GoPro, but if I go for a compact it'll probably be something along the lines of the Olympus Tough TG3. Maybe something cheaper, depending on what deals I can find. matthijs
The real question is: what is your goal with photography. Get the camera that suits that need; I know money is usually a limit there, but saving up IS worth it.
Alec Ferris
The real question is: what is your goal with photography. Get the camera that suits that need; I know money is usually a limit there, but saving up IS worth it. The TG-3 is probably my limit. I want a camera which I can happily use whilst in my boat (SLRs, even with the case and all, present too much of a risk that I might lose one with a boat or have other problems), and that I can happily carry whilst scrambling and swimming around for a good angle. At the same, I'd like something that offers good image quality, and if I can get decent video too, that's a nice bonus.
matthijs
Guess the TG-3 does its job for what you want it for. If you were to go down the DSLR route, apparently Pentax does excellent weather sealing.
Alec Ferris
Money's the issue, really. Paddling trips and, hopefully, flights are going to take a toll. Video quality isn't a massive worry, as any of my footage will go to youtube or Vimeo.
