  1. New house! Far from the best picture, I know, but it's what my phone could do in the circumstances. The giant pedalboards of doom are all rewired up again, and I'm particularly excited about having full access to all three guitar cases for the first time - they've always just been piled on top of each other before because of space limits. Now I'll be able to pick any of them out without having to heave the others off it first, which should also encourage me to play more often too.
  2. Haha, well, yeah, that's part of the problem I guess. That's the Muse I fell in love with all those years ago, and it's music that I still enjoy listening to now. I've probably had mixed feelings for all of their releases since The Resistance to be honest, but this one's just leaving me feeling kind of indifferent at the moment. I'll still give it a listen of course.
  3. Nice to see you too, Matthijs! I don't know, I just find a lot of the new songs kind of boring to be honest. I kind of enjoyed The Dark Side the few times I listened to it, and I reckon the Something Human acoustic version might be really nice, but I find Thought Contagion and Pressure too boring and repetitive to take much interest in, while the less I say about Dig Down the better. Maybe it's just a case of not being the kind of music that I would want to listen to Muse for, but I do feel the songs have become a bit simpler and repetitive, so that I end up bored by the end, and when they're only about three minutes long anyway, that's not exactly great from my point of view. Song length obviously isn't really an issue by itself but it's more about how the music makes me feel in that time. I tend to like songs that go somewhere or have some kind of build up, and the new material lacks that from my point of view. If that's what they want to do, then great, I'm not really fussed, but it doesn't encourage me to feel like listening to the new songs again. When I go back and listen to the old albums, there's just nothing in the new music that really appeals to me by comparison, while I revisited Absolution again recently and was still blown away.
  4. I'm still around! Been in Japan for the last two weeks so I haven't really been online much. I do try and drop in from time to time though. Also, the new Coheed album is very nice for anyone who might be interested!
  5. For what it's worth, I've never remotely thought he used the Fuzz Factory on Unsustainable, and it definitely didn't sound like it live. I always assumed it was just a light-ish distortion with the Whammy doing most of the work. It doesn't really sound fuzzy to me.
  6. "Military Disco Rock"? I swear attempts to describe new Muse songs get funnier with every album! Anyway, thanks for posting that! I may not particularly be a fan of anything from the new album so far, but I still enjoy reading the thought process that goes into it.
  7. Exogenesis in its entirety. I've always loved part III, but it's been a long time since I listened through the whole thing at once. I'd forgotten how good part I is and I've often ignored part II. Enjoyed it today though. Also, as I'm in a slow Muse mood, Blackout, though I've always known how good that song is anyway, so maybe it doesn't count, but still...lovely stuff!
  8. By default they are, yeah, but I change the tuning on the black one quite a bit really depending on what I'm playing. It's become my most flexible guitar actually, so I find myself playing it a lot at the moment, but I still love playing all three depending on what mood I'm in.
  9. </3 Yeah, I've got a .60 on the ali custom because of the trem tension, and it works fine, but the .70 on my black custom really is much much better overall. I actually just go with 10-46s for the other six now though. I had 10-52s on the MB-1 for a few years but eventually I realised I prefer the feel of the 'standard' guage on the thicker strings too. Nice guitar anyway.
  10. I'd say Pressure is pushing it at 3.00 as well to be honest. It's an okay song, but I'm so bored by the end of it because it just keeps repeating the same thing.
  11. Haha, oh god, that raising platform in the Resistance stadium shows was the worst. I didn't see any of Take A Bow because I was basically underneath it, haha!
  12. I still actually enjoy T2L probably more than either of the other albums they've released since BHAR to be honest, even if it seems to get slated a lot here. As others have said though, maybe that comes from expectations on release. I'm not sure I've ever been more hyped for an album than for The Resistance and it was such a disappointment compared to what I was expecting which has always put a downer on it as an album for me ever since, apart from a couple of songs. By contrast, I then didn't really expect much from T2L and was pleasantly surprised so I enjoy it. Drones has some good moments but as an album it's hard to have much emotional attachment to, I think.
  13. Completely different music so I don't see how it makes much sense to compare them at all, but In Rainbows is miles better than anything Muse have released since to be honest. The Dark Side is barely a solid 6/10 for me and it's the best song from the new album by a decent margin so far. Something Human might make 5/10 or so but I haven't cared at all about the others. Dig Down is terrible, and both Thought Contagion and Pressure are just really boring.
  14. The acoustic verses on that version of Dig Down are lovely and make me wonder why on Earth they would ruin it on the album version by making it into Madness. The choruses are still shit for me unfortunately. I also still find Pressure to be extremely boring. That seems to be the theme for me with this album though.
  15. This is my biggest problem with the new songs to be honest. I don't mind the change in style if that's what they want to do, but after listening to each song 2-3 times to see what I think about them when they've come out, with the exception of TDS, none of them have made me feel like listening to them again since.
  16. I've got to be honest. It's not doing anything for me at all.
  17. Haha, no, no, it's just that since I got my third Manson (and got it fixed), I haven't had much to add here really. I do have a question for anyone who understands midi and wiring stuff though. I've been trying to find somewhere I can get a new midi cable where all five pins are connected, which I need for powering the XY screen on two of my guitars. I've finally found a description saying that what I need is a DIN cable, which has all five pins connected, unlike a regular midi cable which only uses three. I just need to know, is a DIN cable wired the same way as the MIDI cable for the normal three pins, so the same pins do the same job and the same pins are spare, etc? I assume so, but I don't have that much knowledge about the details on that kind of thing, so if anyone's got the answer, that would be great. Then I can order one of these DIN cables and replace my current one which is wearing out and causing problems. It's just that I don't know how that cable was made, haha!
  18. Not too bad, really tired at the moment, haha! But yeah, I don't drop in here that much these days. I don't have a whole lot to say to be honest, haha!
  19. Decided to let the new song sink in for a couple of days before commenting fully apart from my brief first impressions, and having just re-listened through all the songs they've released so far for this album, here's where I'm at at the moment... I still think Dig Down is horrible. Assuming I like the rest of the album (who knows at the moment), I can see myself just deleting that song straight out of the blocks and having it as a 10 song album. It's just not what I want from a Muse song, and if I wanted to listen to some George Michael, that's what I'd do. I might give it a generous 1/10 at the moment. I remain pretty unconvinced by Thought Contagion. It just doesn't do it for me, despite a decent riff, etc, whether that's the vocals, the repetitiveness, the whoas, or what, I don't know. It's only about three minutes and it still feels way too long for what it is. 3/10 maybe. Something Human is okay, though I'm not really a fan of the production, percussion, backing vocals, etc, on the current version. I can see myself enjoying the acoustic version a lot more though, as I liked the preview. Maybe 5/10 but 6/10 for the acoustic? The Dark Side is the first song I've felt is pretty decent straightaway. I wouldn't say it's breathtakingly spectacular or anything, but I like it enough to imagine listening to it more than the others. I wouldn't mind an album based on that. A solid 7/10 for me so far? Where that leaves the rest of the album, I've honestly no idea at the moment though!
  20. Seems pretty decent actually. I wasn't convinced at first but it's quite catchy as it goes on. The most enjoyable track so far for me, but I'm still not sure about the album just yet. I'll have see how the other songs come together.
