  1. Yeah, that's probably a good way of putting it to be honest. Most of the songs are actually okay, but I just feel no emotional attachment to any of them, with the possible exception of Redemption right at the end. I kind of feel the same about Drones, though there are a few good moments like the last minute or so of Dead Inside and bits of The Handler. I actually didn't mind T2L maybe because my expectation levels were so low, and as a mix of songs, if not an album, I found it quite enjoyable. The other two felt like they're not as good as they could be though, or like something was missing.
  2. For what it's worth, I've said a number of times how disappointed I was with The Resistance, but I listened to it for the first time in a while the other day without UD and IBTY and it's a decent enough album, with some pretty good bits in there. It's just not up to the standard of the previous three which was where I felt let down. The best thing I can say about the new song though is that it's not Dig Down, but that's hardly a ringing endorsement. If people like it then fair enough, but it's just not at all what I would ever listen to Muse for.
  3. Jesus Christ, that's awful. I'm done. Two terrible songs in a row is too much for me. Whoever posted recently about not listening to Muse for half-arsed pop music nailed it. I'm just going to pretend this new album doesn't exist.
  4. Feel the same here, it's like the opposite of my excitement before The Resistance came out. You're only as good as your last release, I guess? I won't judge it until the end of the week anyway, but my hopes aren't high and it's quite sad to genuinely not be excited.
  5. Haha, yes indeed. My first custom took about two years in the end, though not all of that was their fault. This one's taken almost as long though, because I ordered it in mid-2016, and it feels like they've been saying soon for ages too. It sounds like it should actually be finished this weekend though, but I don't know then how long things like international shipping and customs clearance usually take. So we'll see.
  6. I am, aren't I... In other news, I might actually be getting my new guitar soon...
  7. So that's literally £2000 for swirls and not having to wait a year? Edit - Just realised 'a year' is being pretty generous. It's more like two these days...

Well, yes, indeed, and I'm glad you like it so much. I suspect the biggest factor in there is the point at the end that it was the first Muse album I ever heard and the one that got me into them though. Apart from MK-Ultra and Exogenesis, I find most of it rather forgettable unfortunately. Or fortunately in the case of I Belong To You and a few others. It was a disappointing album for me.

Can I have a copy of whatever version of The Resistance you're listening to? I've still never been more disappointed by an album I was excited for.
  10. It's just the upload link, I think. It's not on the original file. I should try to get back to using Flickr sometime.
  11. Yeah, I'm kind of the same these days really. It's become something I only really end up doing if I'm going away somewhere for a weekend or on holiday or something. Years ago I didn't mind just going out in my spare time in my local area and just seeing what I could find but that's definitely something I haven't really done for a few years now with my life just getting generally busier, I guess. My camera ends up sitting unused for the vast majority of the year now and then I'll take it away for a few weekends here and there to try and get something nice. Even when I do manage to get a nice collection of photos together though, it still takes me about six months or so to choose my favourites and post-process them now. I used to be doing it the same night or at least the same week while it was all fresh but I just don't have the time these days. I guess it depends where you have the chance to go as well though. I find it harder to get excited about taking new photos if I'm stuck in the same place.
  12. Wow, we've really let this thread slip under the radar for a while. We've just had a lunar eclipse here the other night anyway, so I took my first photos of 2018 trying to capture that for the first time, then followed it up with a peacock feather my partner bought the next day. The lighting's a bit dark on that second one as I didn't have any natural light at the time and I wanted to try and see if I could get a nice picture of it straightaway even though I only had the bedroom light to work with. I think it's still pretty nice for a first time effort though.
  13. Are there genuinely people out there who smell their guitar cables? Surely that's the last thing you're thinking about in your set-up?

Yeah, I can definitely understand that point of view on Absolution. I think as Kueller said though, it's an album where I actually like most of the songs so much, or have liked them especially at some point in the past, that that kind of scattered alternation doesn't really bother me that much. There are songs I haven't really listened to properly for ages (TIRO, TSP, TOADA, etc), but I've still loved them at some point and a lot of the others are brilliant enough that even without them, it doesn't really change my view of the album. Origin Of Symmetry is a bit of a strange one for me now in that it's actually quite rare that I listen to it as an album. I'm not sure if it's just down to the album versions of the songs not really living up to their live versions or if the older guitar tone on there doesn't really work as much for me, but it's become a bit of a Showbiz for me, where I'll mostly listen to the first half a dozen songs and then skip to the album closer, haha! They're still good songs obviously, but apart from CE there aren't many songs I still listen to that often. Overall, I'd probably go for something like this out of 10 including bonus tracks... 9.5 - Absolution 9.5 - Origin Of Symmetry 8.5 - Black Holes And Revelations 7.0 - Showbiz 6.5 - The 2nd Law 6.0 - Drones 5.0 - The Resistance

Not sure quite how to explain it really. They would be my top two albums together anyway, but I've always preferred the overall sound of Absolution, and the balance between the heavier and softer songs, the guitar driven songs and the piano driven songs, the sound of the instruments and probably the overall feel of the album as a whole. Yes, it's a bit stop-start, I suppose with the alternation between song styles, but I always feel like that's the album I probably judge the rest of Muse against, maybe as I was getting into them as a band around that time too. Origin Of Symmetry has so many top songs though, that OoS at its best song-wise is probably better than Absolution song-wise. In terms of the consistency over the whole album though, I probably prefer Absolution, even though there are still a couple of songs I don't really listen to that much on both of them.

So why make a thread about it? Personally, I've always maintained that Absolution is the best album, but Origin Of Symmetry has the best songs.
  17. Yeah, I've got mine as the first thing in my effects loop before all the delay and modulation stuff. It's after my amp and distortion pedals though so I can quieten them down if I need to.
  18. Expensive too if I remember correctly. Pretty good though. I don't use mine that much except for delay/trem volume swells when I'm in that kind of mood, but I've never had any problems with it.
  19. Yeah, that's the one, Cider. I want to wait until I've got my new guitar first though, as I don't know how much the import charges are going to be. Probably a lot based on what happened last time. I'm intrigued to give it a go though. I love my D1 with the MB1, and my FF7 works perfectly with my ali custom, but occasionally I want something that combines the two.
  20. NAMM in general in this case. I haven't been following it either though, haha!
  21. Anything interesting been announced generally? I'm not following it so much as waiting for it to be over, but if there are any new pedals or anything from time to time I don't mind being a little bit curious. I'm still thinking of getting that Diezel pedal that was released a while back if I can afford it after my guitar's done.
  22. Eh? Each to their own, I suppose. I actually don't mind T2L to be honest. I might go: The Resistance: 5/10 The 2nd Law: 6.5/10 Drones: 6/10 Dig Down might get 2/10 if I'm feeling generous.
  23. Out of curiosity, how highly is QOTSA's new stuff rated these days? I had a bit of a clearout of my music library a while back and ended up just making a custom album of 2/3 Songs For The Deaf and 1/3 Lullabies To Paralyse and then just deleting everything else. I didn't mind Like Clockwork for a while but ultimately decided that I never really felt like listening to it either. I'll admit I haven't heard anything from their latest album though. so I don't really know what they're up to anymore. I just feel like that Songs For The Deaf era is sort of how I define their music in my mind, and if I feel like listening to them, that's what I go for.
