  1. It all depends on you really. I've met people who travel all over the world to see the favourite bands, and it it's worth it for them, then great, but to me that would be insane. I'm not sure there's any band in the world that I'd be willing to fly to another country to see to be honest. For someone like Muse, the tickets are already expensive enough as it is, but again, that's just my point of view where I've seen them three times already, and it wouldn't be worth it, even for a special show. I might have felt differently about five years ago though. You can only answer how you feel yourself.
  2. Matt's live voice on Space Dementia just doesn't do it for me anymore. Same with 2011 as well to be honest. This on the other hand. <3 VyBw2NMBsgc
  3. Just caught up on the setlist if not the show. I might try and watch it later. From a pure setlist point of view, I think I personally would have preferred SBE, and probably by quite a long way too, as even without Stockholm Syndrome, I'm struggling to think of a better setlist they've done than that since ye olde days, if at all. However, I hope everyone who was there last night had a great time. If Muse can keep doing a few of these shows every now and then, and having some kind of stream for the people who can't go, that would be great. There's no chance of them doing one over here, I know that much, haha!
  4. Yeah, but on the other hand, Matt described the theme of the whole album, with typical subtlety, as 'the world is run by Drones utilizing Drones to turn us all into Drones' which is still pretty heavy on the whole mind-control rubbish. That's been there since at least BHAR though. It doesn't look like it's really going anywhere either with TC coming out on a similar theme.
  5. Sorted by the sound of it. How long does international shipping usually take, James? I guess it won't get sent out before Monday anyway now though...
  6. Yeah, I think so. He couldn't figure out what was causing it so I think he's going to take it out and then start wiring it up again from the beginning. Not sure how long it will take, but better to have a short delay now than find it doesn't work properly after it gets here or something.
  7. Definitely. Black Holes has plenty of kind of semi-political lyrics, but I always thought there was still enough detachment from the real world for it to not really matter, maybe because it was just of its time too, I suppose. I can listen to Assassin without thinking that Matt is really suggesting people go out and shoot their leaders down, and I don't need to take the lyrics of something like Exo-Politics seriously, while Take A Bow would actually work really well if it was released now. I do agree that the climate's changed though and I think something of the abstract has been lost from their music as a combination of that and Matt's decreasingly subtle lyrics. There are songs like I Belong To You and Dig Down that I find unlistenable because the lyrics are just bad, but that's a different matter. Like you say, vague or ambiguous political lyrics about conspiracies and 'false beliefs' probably isn't the best thing to do right now. I find it quite off-putting anyway. It depends on the song though, I guess. I don't mind the occasional song like MK Ultra because I don't really take it seriously, but then there's simpler stuff like Uprising that just feels like there's hardly any depth to it. Maybe it's because I prefer songs that don't really feel like they're referring to a particular time or any political situation, so the lyrics for me would be more abstract. Matt's talked about wanting to make timeless music recently, but unfortunately his lyrics are going the other way. They're becoming more and more derivative of whatever he thinks he's seeing on the news, which lyrically then usually puts me off any band.
  8. Haven't done one of these for a while so here's my 2018 version. Something for a small show. 1. The Handler 2. Dead Star 3. Assassin 4. Futurism 5. Fury 6. Bliss 7. Showbiz 8. City Of Delusion 9. Map Of The Problematique 10. Butterflies And Hurricanes 11. Space Dementia 12. Citizen Erased 13. Ruled By Secrecy ----------------------------- 14. Hyper Chondriac Music 15. Stockholm Syndrome Actually, looking back at my previous setlists, it's funny how I always seem to have certain songs run together. I always seem to have The Handler and Dead Star together, followed by Futurism and Fury, then Bliss and Showbiz always go together, as do Citizen Erased and Ruled By Secrecy, haha! I'm becoming as predictable as Muse, I guess!
  9. It didn't really do much for me to be honest. I think I'll just wait and see what the album ends up being like from here really. I haven't liked the first two songs much, but if the rest of the album's good, I might get more into it. If not, then I don't mind just sticking with the older stuff really. We'll have to wait and see.
  10. I think my problem with TC is that unlike you I have gone back to judging Muse based on their best work, rather than what they've done recently. I've enjoyed the last few albums to varying degrees and enjoyed seeing them live again for the first time in a while a couple of years back, but I also think I'm past the stage where I'm just going to listen to something because it's Muse. I've actually been revisiting the older albums in particular lately and it's kind of reminded me just how many great Muse songs there are that I could choose to listen to. If that's the case then why would I settle for something that I find pretty mediocre?
  11. The 'Feel me now...' to '...now I've become just like you!' segment probably accounts for about half of what I like about that song to be honest. The emotional delivery in that part of the song really makes all the difference.
  12. I definitely agree with that. I'd also suggest the last minute or so of Dead Inside for that very same reason. Emotional delivery of the lines makes such a difference for me, and that's definitely something that's been lacking for a while, and makes whole songs or even albums feel rather insignificant. I was listening to Abso and Black Holes over the weekend actually, and like you say, even the songs where the lyrics aren't as good, you still feel like they mean something from the performance. Then when the lyrics are good, or the balance of the song is just right, it's so much better too. I actually think you take something like Aftermath as a recent example here too. A lot of people here don't like it, whether musically or lyrically, but I feel like the vocal performance actually matches the intended tone of the song pretty well. That makes it better overall for me. By contrast, I think that's why I never felt that connected to The Resistance, even though some of the songs are okay. The emotional delivery isn't there until Redemption.
  13. Haha! Well, there are no trem springs this time so there should be a little more - it's a close run thing though!
  14. On paper, I didn't think they were as complex as the last one, but having the XY in there as well is certainly making everything else just as tight as it was last time, if not even tighter, haha! Looks fun anyway - I'm glad I don't have to sort it all out!
  15. I did wonder about the black screen to be honest, but apart from those old MB-1 prototype pictures, I've never really seen it in action to compare. It's literally only a piece of thin paper though so I could always try it myself one day. Anyway, the wiring's causing some problems and the sustainer won't stop squealing apparently so it's going to be a little while longer yet.
  16. This is the Songs & Releases part of the official Muse Messageboard though. I don't think people discussing a new song here is exactly evidence of the lyrics successfully creating discussion about a given topic on a wider scale. In fact, I find it hard to imagine that most people elsewhere really care that much either way, with the exception perhaps of other old Muse fans who I've seen lamenting Matt's 'tin-foil hat lyrics' in other forums in recent years.
  17. The Small Print's missing too though... It does seem strange though. Imagine going through all the hassle of trying to get tickets, actually managing to get one, and then realising that never mind hoping enough people vote for your favourites for them to actually get played, you can't actually even vote for them at all anyway. I posted in that Your Top 10 Muse Songs thread about a week ago, and 8 of mine aren't even available, with probably 3 or 4 of my next five also missing. So if there's someone going with a similar taste to me, that's 11 or 12 of their top 15 songs that they can't even choose. I can't imagine how disappointed I would be if I was in that situation.
  18. It's taken 20 months but we're nearly there! Oh, boy! Now I can start getting excited again... On another note, I can't believe I've had my MB-1 for six years already this month! Still as good as ever though...
  19. Only Muse could announce a 'setlist by request' show and then omit half their songs from selection.
