It's when you get the same setlist twice in 9 months. They were so lack lustre at T in the Park.

I saw them in November, and really enjoyed it, mainly because we got MKUltra for the first time, and seeing other songs from TR live.

But when you turn up to a festival 9 months later and get the same set, minus 3 songs (2 of which are your favourite (MK and Exo)) and in a slightly different order, it kind of pisses you off.

I didn't travel from Milton Keynes to Scotland to see that.

The main reason I went to T in the Park was to see Muse. If Muse weren't there I wouldn't have gone.

Mehhh I guess, though I just don't see how that's very surprising to anyone. I'm going to be seeing them twice within the same month and I'm fairly sure the set list will be almost identical. The set will probably be the same as the one at Fort Worth in March....and I'm okay with that. Just seeing them is enough for me, and I actually REALLY enjoy a lot of what they are playing. Like I said....id kill to hear either Bliss OR Citizen Erased at any of the gigs I'm attending. Unfortunately Ive come to terms with the fact that its probably not going to happen.

They have basically been doing the same things in the past, looking back.

I've seen them 3 times across 2 albums. On the 3rd time I didn't see a single song I hadn't heard before. That was the most shocking thing.

I was actually getting a bit bored at T in the Park :(

OP, you seem like a very mature and thoughtful person! I feel your post does accurately describe the real dynamics of this forum. I'm glad you got all that off your chest, which I guess was the intent. There's really nothing that will ever change on here, I don't think. All of those things you discussed are just human nature and I don't see things changing. Knowing that, I keep coming back anyway, so it obviously doesn't bother me that much. I just don't get all flustered by it because people are the way they are. Some people love to argue, and some people love to troll. As far as the PTs go, well, I'm not going to comment on that.

You'd love the posts on the 'Muse: the Twilight Band' group on Facebook then. :noey:

That's for sure! Good grief. :noey: I do despise the whole "real Muse fan" thing. Ridiculous.

I haven't posted alot on this forum, mostly because I usually have nothing to say and reading it is very entertaining. But there are a few things that kind of bother me, and I'd like to share it with you guys because it may be bothering others as well.

There's alot of known (M)users here... quite a few have been supporting the band since the very beggining, and I respect that, but... some users can't seem to get over their own superiority and are laying down the "guidelines" for what it is to be a true Muse fan.

For instance, alot of older fans disagree highly with some of the newer songs... many say that songs like "Neutron Star Collision" and "Feeling Good" suck horribly and that those who listen to those songs aren't a real fan. They say that If you only listen to The Resistance and only know a few songs you aren't a real fan.

To the prospective "newbie" on this site it's terribly alarming. So many songs you like, but obviously thats just not accepted here! A weaker person would be scrambling over themselves not to admit that they got into Muse through TR, and like songs like Supermassive and NSC. While I don't like those songs exclusively I don't think their very existence should be shunned. People have different tastes, and luckily for us, Muse has produced a very large range of music for those with different tastes.

I don't see either why people are abandoning the band for Neutron Star Collision. I'm not a Twi-hard, I hate romance and gooey stuff like that, but it seems all the Die-hard fans think this is not their usual old-school Muse, and are boycotting the song. Even if thats your choice, you just can't bring yourself to find even one redeeming fact of the song, as I tried to state above, don't press your opinions on others. Everyone likes Muse in their own way.

Muse themselves have produced a vast range of musical styles, and reasonably enough not everyone is going to like every song they come out with. Still, its Muse. I don't think any song should have a reputation that says "You can't like this song, because if you do you aren't a true fan. You signed up on this site not to critique every noise they make, but because they're this cool band you like, right?

Lastly... And I think I'll get the most hell for this...

Alot of people talk about the band themselves on this site.. in a very... uncomfortable way. Some fantasize about Matt kissing them, Dom taking them on a date, Chris impregnating them. Now, I find it a bit disturbing myself but imagine the band! It must be uncomfortable for them to read what people say on their own site! I can understand being happy you met them. I can understand hero worship. I can understand even a crush (who doesn't have a crush on some celebrity?) but not to the point where it's embarrassing, unrealistic, and even downright pathetic. There's a difference between having fun and being a little weird. Even the band themselves (Chris I believe) has mentioned that they don't like the way they're discussed here.

I could add more but its late and I'm tired, not to mention really anything I say will be redundant. I know my opinion is a little unsual, but I guess I'm just the new kid here with some crazy ideas about the world in general.

But isn't that all of us, really?

Questions, comments, concerns? If you disagree please tell me why.

Hey Blasphemy

I think you were right to post what you did. I thought it was a highly intelligent and thoughtful message, you obviously have taken some time in writing this and I admire you for that!

I myself am a very new Muse fan, only since hearing 'Uprising' on the radio and over the last few months have become familiar with some of their albums (although not all). I can honestly say I don't hate any Muse song I have heard so far. Yes there are some variations in Muses style over the years and some songs that people cannot appreciate musically. NSC for instance is a highly commercial song, yes it's about love and yes it's a bit soppy, but it's still Muse (in fact the piano parts on that song are beautiful) so if you are a TRUE fan surely you should appreciate your band in whatever form they take? Shouldn't a true fan stick through all their musical changes and experiements??

As for some of the more pervy threads about the band members. Ok so, hands up I've looked a few of images in those threads and you're gonna get threads like that on many sites, I've seen it before on sites like 'Empire' (film magazine) and I also see it on the 'Stereophonics' thread I also post on (you should hear the way they talk about Kelly Jones!)

No harm in looking at the pictures, but I guess it must be very freaky for the band members to read the sordid comments about themselves, so I just don't post anything like that. The band probably just avoid looking at those comments anyway and hopefully they read (if they come on here and read) the relevant stuff :D

Hi Muse!!!! :D

Srsly I am with Taylor on that one... What the heck is a "true fan" and a "real fan"? Is there a test or something that you need to take to tell you if you are real or fake.

Oh and I believe people can like Muse or any other bands and not necessarily like everything that they do.

That place makes me want to cry. As much as it makes me laugh. Maybe even more.

Are the pornogenic threads really that bad? I always thought it was just people posting pretty pictures of the band. Didnt realise all that went on.

Sometimes it gets creepy in there, but rarely. For the most part it's banter with pretty pictures. :D

And I also despise the "true fan" thing, though there's not much on the subject I want to say that hasn't already been said.

As if we don't know that they will be playing a certain amount of The Resistance tracks  They need to realise that they are meant to be playing for the fans who love all of their songs, not just the greatest hits and new album :facepalm:They are turning into a greatest hits band.

Basically. The only difference is that Muse think that lights seem to make up for that....

There are times when I feel bad for being such a moaner. *sigh*

I only look through there a little bit for the fake comments. I bet the fans that are freaking out about it are really scary. :stunned:

They're mostly 13 year olds with terrible grammar that say "fail" a lot. It's actually kinda fun because most people know it's just a wind up, but every once in a while some n00b will show up and is clueless and they start cursing. I've been trying to figure out which are boardies and what their names are. I may have to avoid some people. :$

Are you implying that to be this "true fan", we have to like everything they do? :erm:

No, I think he's saying that if your favorite band release a song you really don't like, you shouldn't be like, "OMG, [band] SUCKS! I can't believe they made this! I'm never listening to them AGAIN!"

They're not my favourite band either.

Out of interest what's your top five?

Mines probably...

Porcupine Tree

Muse

Amplifier

Pink Floyd

Riverside

Foals

Biffy Clyro

Radiohead

Bloc Party

Kasabian

You are really not listening/reading, are you? It has nothing to do about people not getting to hear their favourite song... Sorry but it really ticks me of when people say that.

We're nearly a year into the tour. No one reads or listens, they just launch straight in with a 'just because they didn't play [insert any of the 50 songs they never play] get over it!'

3 in gigs on The Resistance Tour for me and from this tour to promote The Resistance I've heard the same 5 songs at all 3, a further 2 songs at another 2 and 1 song once. Hardly promoting 'the album' as a whole, 3 gigs and still only heard 8 from it with the first 5 from the tracklist (which coincidently are the singles plus the next track) at all of them

They have basically been doing the same things in the past, looking back.

They were never this bad in the past. Saw them 9 months apart 2003-2004. Got 21 different songs from 3 albums in 2 gigs as well as a couple of jams/interludes, which is almost 50% of their recorded album material from that time

Saw them 8 months apart 2006-2007, got 24 different songs from 4 albums at 2 gigs as well as jams/interludes, saw every song from the album they were promoting as well as some slightly more obscure songs from the earlier albums and that was with getting the shortest set from the UK tour

Fast forward to 2009-2010 and despite a whole extra albums worth of material to play I got 21 different songs (one of which was a U2 cover) at two gigs 7 months apart with the set in pretty much the same order of just singles and one rarer fan favourite from the older days. I can't understand why they've regressed back, and maybe I'll get lucky and get Bliss at Wembley so then I'll be up to 22.

After the three Wembley Arena shows, the first three shows I saw on the Black Holes & Revelations tour I saw:

Sunburn

Muscle Museum

New Born

Bliss

Plug In Baby

Citizen Erased

Feeling Good

Apocalypse Please

Time Is Running Out

Stockholm Syndrome

Hysteria

Butterflies & Hurricanes

Take A Bow

Starlight

Supermassive Black Hole

Map Of The Problematique

Soldier's Poem

Invincible

Assassin

Exo-Politics

City Of Delusion

Hoodoo

Knights Of Cydonia

Forced In

Compare with the first three shows I saw of The Resistance tour - Teignmouth, O2 Arena, Glastonbury:

Unintended

New Born

Plug In Baby

Citizen Erased

Feeling Good

Time Is Running Out

Stockholm Syndrome

Hysteria

Starlight

Supermassive Black Hole

Map Of The Problematique

Knights Of Cydonia

Uprising

Resistance

Undisclosed Desires

United States Of Eurasia

Guiding Light

Unnatural Selection

Exogenesis: Overture

Popcorn

Where The Streets Have No Name

Regardless of what songs you like/don't like, I can hardly describe what they've become as a better band than three years ago. They've somehow gotten worse. :( Most of the songs they've kept from previous tours were merely staples from the previous one give or take the odd exception. There's just no surprises anymore. It's far too predictable.

Watching this made me realize that Matt needs to bring the freaking Hendrix and Morello back to Muse. I'm angry now. Just listen to him go at the end of the song, it's bloody magical.. now all I can picture him doing is dressing up in ridiculous glam outfits covering Paparazzi.

What happened to "pwoper rock & roll"..

I agree 100%. I was actually scared to post in here for a while

It does seem (some) people view noobies as "not true fans" because they like Muse's newer stuff. I avoided saying I love GL and really like NSC for a while, but now I don't care.

And the last part I couldn't agree with you more! I avoid many threads because people view and talk about the band in a very creepy way. I'm extremely disturbed by it. I can't even imagine what Matt, Dom, and Chris must feel like  Makes us all look like a bunch of freaks!

(sorry if this makes no sense I'm incredibly tired right now)

Also, it's nice to see a a very mature 14 year old.

I'm 14 as well, and I'm often surrounded by the crazy/creepy ones who only drool over guys and don't "think"

I'm not making any sense anymore so I'm going to stop talking :chuckle::$
