MartianSpaghettiRider
The child of Hoodoo and IS. Maybe one of their most suggestive tracks ever. I particularly love how the "leap of faith" bridge seems to bring a little of hope in the atmosphere, and then... the darkness takes over everything again. Sad as heck. He's saying they're wrong that he (and his lover?) can't be pulled out of "the void."

I... wouldn't be so sure, you know? The hypothetic character singing the song while his cybernetic world is fading away may be putting up a futile resistance against that by trying to tell his lover to have faith everything will resolve in the end... while disappearing. That's quite tragic if you think about it. But this is just my interpretation. It's brilliant to see different ones.
Jobby
They’ll say that no one can see us That we’re estranged and all alone They believe nothing can reach us And pull us out of the boundless gloom They’re wrong They’re wrong They are wrong Yeah, baby, they’re wrong They’re wrong They’re wrong They’ll say the sun is dying And the fragile can’t be saved And the cold, it will devour us And we won’t rise up and slay giants They’re wrong They’re wrong They are wrong Yeah, baby, they’re wrong They’re wrong They’re wrong It takes a leap of faith To awake from these delusions You are the coda and (?) They’ll say no one will find us That we’re estranged and all alone They believe nothing can reach us And pull us out of the boundless gloom They’re wrong They’re wrong They are wrong Baby, they’re wrong They’re wrong They are wrong I’d need to know what Matt’s saying at the end of the bridge, might be another music term I don’t know to go along with coda. That could make the difference between reading it as “their” delusions and Matt/character’s, the former being positive, the latter being a pretty tragic twist. Jobby
I'm pretty positive he says "you are the coder and avatar." Hm, I definitely hear “cod-ah” as opposed to “-er”. We’ll have to see when we get the lyrics books.

MartianSpaghettiRider
For the moment it's my favorite track from ST. But damn... I feel a lump in my throat while listening to it. It's been years since I felt like this for a Muse song, it's incredible.
Jobby
For the moment it's my favorite track from ST. But damn... I feel a lump in my throat while listening to it. It's been years since I felt like this for a Muse song, it's incredible. I almost got emotional hearing it for the first time too. It’s defo new and it’s own thing, unique to ST, but it instantly felt like something that was right at home among their older classics as well. s3ker
When I first listened to this song, I instantly thought of this track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyYdEoFqKGo Anyhow, this is top tier Muse imo. The way they handled the pulse of the synths manually towards the end is so so satisfying. Almost makes me wish the whole album had these kinds of vibes, despite me enjoying some of the poppiest tracks.

That Little Animal
I have this weird thing where after the last "they're wrong" in the first two choruses my mind expects it to be followed by Recess' "I wish I could believe there was more". Someone make that mashup for me.

jonisdead
Pretty sure the ending bassline is a callback to Dig Down’s message of faith, tying it in with The Void’s lyrical content to close out the record
