Hat
Well that bridge/riff/solo thing counts, I'd have thought. Yeah I'm aware that the song has guitar.
Howardm93
Also I'm not sure if it counts as "riffs" but Animals is Matt's best guitar work to date I understand one what you mean it is very good but... Jobby
Also I'm not sure if it counts as "riffs" but Animals is Matt's best guitar work to date I'd say it's tied with Bedroom Acoustics but yeah, this is true anyway The poll has 10 voters, calm your tits. Well, that, and Citizen Erased's riff really isn't that great.
Jazzthief
Then the solo that is sadly buried under vocals in the studio version <3 I think that maybe it was too difficult to sing over live. No? The live solo he played was more badass anyway. CE at Glasto '04, Micro Cuts outro, Stockholm, MK Ultra outro, every riff in Survival edit: oh and New Born is great too edit: not sure if counts, but Hysteria (inb4 but it's a bassline hurrdurr) Well, wasn't Hysteria's bassline written by Matt on the guitar? Clunge
PiB? Seriously...? Wut? . Plug In Baby is easily Muse's most recognisable, iconic, classic riff. It will be one of the few moments that will forever define Muse as a band (and Matt as a guitarist) and rightly so. It's not personally my favourite but it is a crucial element in Muse's success. JamesWS
What's the riff in survival? I think people are getting mixed up between a riff and a solo!
Clunge
From about 1.30 to when the main verse comes in, no? Definitely riffage, not solo. In fact, I'd say Survival doesn't have a solo, anything remotely solo'ish counteracts the riffage.
Picko
The last 25 seconds of Stockholm Syndrome has always been my most favourite riff of all time. I also think the riff for Dead Star deserves a shout out. Great fun to mosh to/play on guitar.

Basically what Clunge said I would always associate a riff as a repeated phrase (much like an ostinato in classical music), I can see where the confusion lies though, it's a tricky one
Hopix
One thing we can agree on though is that the guitar work in Survival kicks major arse.
