Something Human feels like the most heartfelt writing and performance we've gotten from these singles so far. I'm also surprised it went over so well for being a pop track, but not as surprised since it is so catchy and warm, and doesn't feel underwritten like DD and TC. I'm also big on TDS and Pressure is a decent Muse song as well, so I'm starting to hope we've left the worst behind us, though I probably shouldn't with some of these song titles...

Tru tho. What the heck is Fantano's taste in Muse and why is it so middle of the road?

Album Eight: Simulation Theory

Something Human The Dark Side Pressure Thought Contagion Dig Down I'll agree DD isn't as bad as people have been saying. I mean, it's very well arranged and is in fact catchy. I think my real problem with the new tracks in many cases is they seem a bit stiff (DD, Pressure, TDS). Like, this is the band that Mutt Lange just forced to do tons of live takes on Drones before choosing one to put on the album. Why do they sound so metronomic and ungroovy a few years later? And Madness and Uprising groove like heck, so this I think is a newer issue. But honestly the songs could be worse. Remember they aren't just doing impressions this time around like on T2L (Big Freeze = U2, Liquid State = Foo Fighters, Panic Station = Superstition, Stevie Wonder, Supremacy = James Bond music, and of course, Unsustainable = Skrillex).- 5,585 replies

I like it. It's not Panic Station, it's a bit stiff, it's a bit undercooked maybe, and the chorus is a bit out of place, but I still like it. The vibe fits with the album, after one listen different hooks were catching in my head, it seems to realize how corny it is, the horns are a legitimately nice touch, Chris rocks, that's a very likable guitar tone, the video is hilarious... This is a decent Muse song. I bet it's killer live, and maybe even the marching band version will add some oomph (I don't want to listen to leaks).

I was shocked. But he's also big on the new 21p singles, so maybe he's just going soft

What's sonically incoherent about Drones though? imo it's more coherent than Abso.- 5,585 replies

Muse have finally decided to embrace how preposterous they are on the cover of an album. I for one applaud this mature decision.

I have no complaints. No suggestions. This is gold. Yeah, it's not CE or anything like that. But it's gold. Better than most of Drones, and most of T2L. I feel like this is sort of what TC was going for but got caught up in trying to be a 30stm song, on the chorus at least.

Seriously hyped that they're putting the whole 11 track main album on one vinyl disc. Not that I don't like double vinyl, but when they put Drones on double vinyl and only had 2 or 3 songs on each side, it seemed like a waste of space. Genesis used to fit over 50 minutes of music on one disc in the 70s, surely we still have the technology to do that now.- 5,585 replies

Not that one song bears any real resemblance to the other, but after hearing TDS for the first time earlier and walking back to my dorm building I started singing Deadstar, whereas earlier SH had made me want to sing Madness... so quality new Muse song confirmed.

If I manage to get to my first Muse concert ever on this tour and don't see them play TiRO, I'm gonna leave disappointed. Slightly, but nonetheless. It's my favorite Muse song.

Major OoS vibes from this as well. That synth tone also seems very BH&R era, like Easily even? Hoodoo comes to mind melodically as well. This is the Muse that we all know and love. Maybe not the most incredible song, but like Easily-tier good imo. This will see plenty of replay from me. Sounds like a solid track 2 as well...hoping the opener is something epic now.

Best song from the album yet, at this rate DD is going to be the exception on a otherwise very solid album.

Also, is there any chance this is supposed to be an album with a narrative? I kinda got that vibe before but looking at the art with all the different characters, a few that we've seen in the music videos, it seems more likely than not. Not that I have any clue what that narrative could possibly be. Matt turns into a werewolf because of a thought contagion and Dom and Chris have to go save him? and Get Up And Fight, Dig Down, don't succumb to The Dark Side?- 5,585 replies

"You think your phone is too high, to be on the ground, well watch it get raised" Yep, Defector, lol. -
For being one of my least favorite Muse songs (sorry, mainly it's the wubs that get me), I've always loved the Matt's vocals at the start, especially the way he overdubs a descending vocal on the word "surround." Really love that!

Because once you release a greatest hits, 95% of the time you're admitting you're past your prime, and Muse are still trying to get on the radio. a few artists that made one before releasing some of their best material: Eagles Foo Fighters RHCP

Genesis - Counting Out Time because I don't really think they could pull it off but it'd be hilarious to see them try.
