Hello everyone!

Liz!!! How r things over there? Yeah I went for all 3 days, I only paid RM 48 per day.

The awesomest fun since I cant even remember. Highlights: Datarock, Wolfmother, Mutemath and this awesome Indonesian band called The Sigit.

The Mutemath vocalist / keyboardist even backflipped over his keyboard at one point! Probably one of the most exciting bands, musically, that I have witnessed live.

K will try to post some photos:

Datarock made me laugh till I almost peed. Goddamn crazy (but good musicianship) Norwegians!

What is that thing he's playing?

The Sigit. Easily international class.

Yeah so cheap right? They were early bird tix, my friend paid even less, like RM90 for the whole festival! Even though the dearly departed Sunburst Festival will always be remembered fondly, nothing can beat Javarockinland for its sheer rocking out credentials.

There were some relatively low points though, like Billy Corgan's 'poyo' aka Diva attitude and not being able to find 2 of my frenz on the last night

But overall yeah, bestival everrr!!! Definitely recommended especially if you are into retro / electro / riff-centric rock.

Hello everyone! the semester is nearing its end! :D

these talks about miele's wedding is getting exciting! congrats miele!

who else will be going to Paramore's concert next week? i bought the PS1 tickets and will be going with my friend, but would love to meet up with some of you guys there.

i sprained my right ankle two days ago during my acting test. it is now quite swollen and walking can be quite a task and is painful. and it is too convenient that i bought standing tickets for Paramore. :indiff::erm:

Wow good thing I didn't know it was so cheap otherwise I'd have skewed my way down there. Looking forward to the next one, in a year's time. :'(

Mel I hope you nurse it back to care within the week! You can do it!

And I didn't know you're an actrice in the making?;)

hell yeah. it better be.... better before tuesday! and no, i'm not an actress in making whatsoever. we had a subject on Script Critique and Style Analysis and the lecturer wanted us to do a small theater on Feminism. i was a very, very gedik Bibik who skipped blissfully all over the acting area, hence the sprained ankle huahuahhhh!!!!

Hi! Actually the Bendera thing is exaggerated la, they were mercenaries paid to demonstrate only. I went shopping, rocking etc and people were fine. Except sometimes there's a brief silence when I admit to being from Malaysia :stunned:

SP sangat2la professional, they sounded good aand it was a good reminiscing exercise. But sama la macam Stereophonics, they were good tapi macam langsung xda rapport with the crowd. It's not that they needed to chat with the crowd, just not be such automatons, you know?

SP didnt play 1979, I think. Mr Corgan seemed like he was having a hissy fact. There was no encore despite the crowd calling for it. :(

On the flip side, with Stereophonics I finally got to hear Dakota live

Dashboard was good fun, but the performances by other awesome bands ( Wolfmother, Datarock, Mutemath) made them not stand out, I think.

That's why la!!! Did you know Weezer almost headlined this thing. There was a news report that negotiations stalled bcoz of payment issues. Booo!

Takpa kita tunggu tahun depan. :)

Liz! good to hear from you! how was LH?

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been MIA. I gotta say a lot of people I've met who are into music here are not exactly huge fans of Muse. How disappointing :( I've joined my local uni radio station, hopefully they'll assign me to attend gigs and interview (small local) bands hahaa, that's a start though, no? :)

LH was :awesome: :awesome: It was a very solid performance, one that cannot be rivaled to the set they played in Singapore exactly 2 yrs ago. Perhaps it was the crowd that drove them, or them playing at the same exact venue 7 years ago and not returning to UK after that. Mid way through the set, Jason&his acoustic allowed the crowd in London to pick songs they want to hear. We got to listen to a medley of

. (Love that part where Jason said the record label told him that Breathing was a radio flop in the states ) Hard to believe, but that wasn't the highlight of my night  Come to think of it, there's really too much to say that won't exactly be proper for Muse msg board. Link to a proper review up soon (along with the overdue Placebo in KL review)! :X

Allllso, earlier this week I finally got to see Brandon Flowers in person. I swear, his show was such a hand porn fest :awesome::$ Pity he wasn't wearing a watch, but he was easily forgiven every time he flash that goddamn contagious smile of his. I honestly can't believe we didn't get to see him earlier this year :( :( Definitely missed out an experience of The Killers live. I wanted to talk to Brandon after the gig about another Singapore/Malaysian gig but cheesus christ, I think I had a complete culture shock while waiting backstage for Brandon after the gig. We all know Asian fans can be a little crazy sometimes, but at least we're crazy shy. The dickheads here on the other hand, they were totally harassing Brandon to the extent there were idiots banging on the tour bus door and sticking their noses on the windows to peer inside. For such an advanced country, you'd expect the people to behave better but no, with alcohol apparently they have every reason to do that. *shakes fists* If you stand back and let the man breathe, you're definitely going to get that 30 seconds of precious time with Brandon but if you mob him security's just gonna whisk him away! I felt so embarrassed I left the venue early with a taste of disdain in my mouth. However, even that bad experience post-gig could not affect how birlliant his show was. Brandon sings with a tinge of mystery and as he looks into the crowd flashing his smile, you know he's hiding a faint memory that the fans will probably never know. I loved every moment of it :)

Ash and Jimmy Eat World in November...but contemplating right now if I should skip class and go for Jonsi & The National in London!! Whatever happened to studying?! :(

Mel & Deb, how was Paramore!

Hellooo! I'm here when I should be studying for my finals instead haha :p procrastination ftw. not. and I swear thinking about the things I want to do after my finals is the biggest distraction EVAAAR.

Miele, wah I had no idea Javarockin' would be so cheap! Must've been suuuper worth it eh.. and that's weird that Stereophonics didnt speak to the crowd, because when they were here Kelly Jones spoke to us quite a bit actually! He was like.. describing the songs or something, I couldnt really listen because it was noisy and his accent is so thick

Liz, oh gaaawd that Lifehouse Medley was so awesome! Must be fantastic to have seen it live.. and ooh what happened that was the highlight of your night? Now I'm intrigued... :eyebrows: I cant stop clicking on other medleys Lifehouse did btw. They did one with Simon too!! I almost died. Simon is one of my favourite ones haha. What songs would you have requested for? :D

and dayumn.. closeup pictures of brandon pls? :chuckle:

As for Paramore.. I unfortunately only got the cheapest tickets, so it sorta was like Muse in BNO again, where we were on the barriers on the balcony haha. I had such a blast! Their music is super upbeat, i love it, and Hayley is sooo adorable I'm starting to have a girl-crush on her :ninja:. She always does this little 'jig' when she sings, and she's a wicked head-banger too haha. She bantered a lot as well, and during the last song Misery Business she actually brought a dude up on stage to sing with her!! luckyyyy guy. He shamelessly asked her for a photo right there on stage haha. I'd do the same too if I were him and wasnt already peeing in my pants :p

Setlist.. if anyone's interested :D

1. Ignorance

2. Feeling Sorry

3. That's What You Get

4. For a Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optimistic

5. Emergency

6. Playing God

7. Careful

8. Decode (!!!)

9. Let This Go (acoustic)

10. When It Rains (acoustic)

11. Where The Lines Overlap (acoustic)

12. Misguided Ghosts (memang acoustic)

13. Crushcrushcruuuush (never realised how much i loved this song until i heard it live)

14. Pressure

15. Looking Up

16. The Only Exception

--- ENCORE ---

17. Brick By Boring Brick

18. Misery Business

Maybe coming back to South East Asia reminded Kelly of that shoe-throwing incident in Singapore earlier this year :(

My highlight from the LH gig (apart from meeting the band post-gig, and talking to them about Inglorious Basterds :$ ) was actually hearing Wash live. Two words for that song: LIKE. SUNSHINE. ;) During Spin, I *think* Jason messed up the 2nd verse but because the crowd was singing along so loudly - even overwhelming the band during the customary bridge pause - it was quickly overshadowed. Simon's my favourite too, but I would've loved to hear Eighties, Anchor, Cling & Clatter or Fool. That would kill me. Then again, after hearing Everything live, I have no regrets. It feels like I'm done with life lol.:stunned:

I know you're having your exams at the moment, won't give you reasons to procrastinate further with pictures of Brandon ;) but I can't resist posting this picture...and vid.

7pWTf.jpg

Lelangit lol! (Pic not taken by me)

Not sure if I mentioned in my earlier post, but Brandon dances a lot on stage! If you guys have watched his latest vid (not the one with Charlize Theron), you would notice Brandon's signature snap dance in this vid! ;)

That smile of his, he's so dorkily gorgeous. I can't stand it.

Any vids to share from the Paramore gig? :) How was the opening act for Paramore? Heard they won the chance to open through some twitter contest!

  • 2 weeks later...

i believe they have a song called the rime of the ancient mariner? i wonder if the lyrics are the same as Coleridge's poem. you're going to see them in Sg Nut?

hey i also went to Paramore huhu.. bought the tix at 7pm on the day of the concert. pretty fun i must say..but the crowd was super young la. felt so out of place haha.. i was standing behind this group of kids who were there with their "kakak" (their maid, i believe..) rich kids! here's

from the rockzone.. very shaky la most of the time but i got close-ups on hayley for a few secs! :D

Yes I'm watching Maiden and I hope that the tickets don't get sold out when I buy them this Sunday.

On other news, I've won tickets to The Flaming Lips but unfortunately the pick up is at Junk's office in Petaling Jaya. Anyone happen to want to go this Thurs? :p

Also, just wondering, how much does it cost and how long does it take to use the fastest mail service ever created to send the tickets in Malaysia to Singapore?

Thanks guys for the help! It turned out pretty well and I managed to go!! IT WAS BLOODY GOOD, THE FLAMING LIPS!!!

On that night itself, some dude named Omar email-ed me about joining him and his friend for the road trip down to Singapore for the show (he must've gotten my email from the Junk website, and yes Miele I am ewoksoldier! Did you read my lame entry? :D). So I replied that I'm in Singapore and asked him if he can be arsed to help a stranger and get me my tickets from Junk HQ, highlighting the fact that he can run away with them and that I can do nothing about it. In return, I'd treat him and his friend to supper after the show. He replied with a very sincere "yes"!

So this super-duper nice fella did get me my tickets at 10am SHARP thurs morning, and gave me a call right away to assure me that he's not running away with it! Such a nice fella right.. :)

I brought my lucky friend along and we met Omar and his friend at Marina Bay Sands (it was their first time driving into Singapore and kudos to him for finding his way through this extremely confusing place) after work. I think he's the last human being of this kind (helpful, selfless, honest). I received my tickets and he said he'll take a smoke while my friend and I go look for something to eat (but we didn't in the end). Apparently there isn't a single fast-food restaurant in that bloody huge place. Not a big fan of fast-food but we needed to bite into something light just before the show, so we ended up with coke.

Then we went to the exhibition hall and there was a queue. Went to check out the merch stalls and I bought a tee. I loved it. We decided to join the queue but soon after, Omar came and called us to his BIG group of friends who came down from KL too, and they were near the front of the queue!! Then I spotted my colleague (who's a freelancer so I had no idea she was attending the show too) on the other side of the queue, where we were a minute ago and I did the right thing by passing along the good deed, so I pulled her to our huge group of cool people (apparently some of them are in a Malaysian band called Flocks, if i heard correctly... google isn't giving me any result so I must have heard wrongly then). Then it was 8pm and we were ushered into the hall and it was the beginning of a lot of surprises for me. That is all.

:D

I'll post the pics soon! I believe this was the most fun I had in a concert. Wayne Coyne sure knows what he's doing.

Yes Omar is my new friend. I still owe him supper cos the show ended at 12am and he thought it was late. He had to go back to JB to his aunt's place, then drive back up to KL on Friday to start work at 6pm!!! HARDCORE.

The setlist I can't remember in its entirety nor it's order, but it went something like this:

intro

Worm Mountain

Silver Trembling Hands

She Don't Use Jelly (!!!!)

The Sparrow Looks Up At The Machine

I Can Be a Frog (very fun interaction with the audience hahaha)

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots part 1 (gutted that they only played the acoustic version)

See The Leaves (i think)

encore

The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song ("i'm so happy")

Do You Realize (must end with this)

The pictures are on my facebook.

When I'm 49 I want to have hair like Wayne Coyne.:afro:

Glad you won tickets, and had fun at the Flaming Lips gig Nut!

Hope you guys are all excited about MGMT playing in March 2011! :)

Anyway, was watching this trailer from a new Johnny Depp/Angelina Jolie movie and all of a sudden bam! I hear Map of the Problematique :D Movie's called The Tourist, looks like a pretty yawn-worthy plot but eh, I'm sure Johnny Depp (and Muse) will be able to change that ;)
