I'm thinking english lit atm though it's subject to change :) I was thinking Sheffield Uni, the open day showed me it was nice so its definately one of my options, just need to decide if it'll be my first. That's providing i'll get the grades ofc. Three A's =

Well, I babysit for one of the English professors and she's lovely.

Oh dear my mum helps with those open days  hmm I think my cousin was thinking of doing English at Sheffield too... don't know which sort though!

Ooft 3 A's, GOOD LUCK! I'm sure you'll get them :)

Yay for English Lit! :D

I was suprised enough meeting you in Oxford! Really didn't expect anyone to recognise that I was playing muse songs, let alone you recognising space dementia from the first 2 seconds played very poorly

"I can't play the rest..."

How the hell is it even September next month already :stunned: where the flip has the year gone! I'M NOT COMPLAINING THOUGH  It would be awesome if people brought banners too! Nice to put a (user)name to a face

ohai fellow potential English Lit applicant...grade requirements for this subject are seemingly a complete bitch. :stunned: Have you started with the almighty personal statement yet?

I've had a go and it was epic  At sheffield even medicine has lower grades. So much for all my medic friends calling lit a non subject

English Lit is indeed a bitch seeing as pretty much every decent uni wants top grades. I started my personal statement and then promptly gave up. Hoping for some inspiration on holiday (not :awesome:).

How about slipping a subtle Muse reference into our personal statements? T'would be a nice challenge.

As people have said, yes, Sheffield is lovely  but I'm a bit biased. What do you want to study at Uni? And were you thinking Sheffield Uni or Sheffield Hallam? (don't go there.) Regular Muser meets are held here too ;)

It is hilly, but you soon develop legs of steel. It keeps you fit :D

Yeah, I had the firmest legs / arse in Britain after my three years there!

And don't diss Hallam, I went there (though the English department has dropped in the ratings since I was there, it was in the top 5 in the country while I was studying). It does have its fair share of numpty courses though.

I live on one of the most hated / steepest hills, in 15 years, I don't even notice it

And sorry :$ but both my parents work at Sheffield University and I hear constant bitching about Hallam ;)

Like I said, it does have its numpty courses, but when I was there the English department was rated higher than most 'proper' unis. Though I went there because I wanted to study a combined course and Hallam offered what I wanted and I really liked it at open day.

We didn't give a shit about the uni, strange how the red bricks seem to have more complexes about the ex-polys than the other way round!

haha same here, I've tried numerous times but I either sound like a pretentious moron or just reeeeally boring  I hadn't really anticipated how competitive it was tbf :stunned: Ppsh at the medics with their scientific knowledge and their life saving aspirations :phu:

My plans for the gig might be changing actually. I've kept playing my Mum Muse snippets but she hates them, so now my younger brother might be joining me. He's a bit of a shortarse so he's not really cut out for standing, meaning the barrier is his only realistic option if he wants to be with me. Only problem is, he's convinved he won't last and if he did get pulled I'd have no choice but to follow him out :(

Suggestions anyone?

Edit: He's only 13 so if he is coming with me we'd appreciate someone playing his Aunt (under 14s have to be escorted by over 25s or somthing like that) ;)

If he's not convinced about the barrier, then I really wouldn't recommend it. I know there are plenty of younger people who CAN cope with being at the front, but if he's not sure, then it's most likely not worth the risk. Shortarses can still have fun a bit further back! My sister is only 5ft tall and she had plenty of fun near the back of Wembley Arena when we saw Muse play there a few years ago :)

....:stunned: if you say so...

I'm sure it's a fine university, I know for a fact it's better than Sheffield Uni in a lot of courses.

Anyways, I'm too young to know anything about universities *runs away and hides*

Hmm, it's not so much the pushing and shoving (he'll cope better than me) but simply the boredom of standing on a barrier for so long with no toilet breaks real food/drink. Young 'uns these days and their short attention spans

Seriously though, if he's not up for it there I'm sure he'll still enjoy himself. :)

Ah yeah, well that too. I don't know many 13 year olds who can cope with queueing for several hours before spending another couple of hours inside waiting for the band to come on  Might be better off hanging back a bit.

This is my first concert ever (even though I'm almost 16, bloomin' parents) and I'm going with my 13 year old friend and her 21 year old sister and we have general admission tickets. I was just wondering how dangerous it is up at the front of Muse concerts? And what time you'd be wanting to arrive in order to get fairly decent places, but not queing up from the night before?

I'd be grateful if I could get some advice in the matter from people who've been to Muse concerts before, or have been to a gig at LCCC because I really don't know anything at all

I've just been told by a friend that when she tried to take glow sticks into a gig they got taken off her.

Be prepared to hide them in shoes!

Oh crap! They had them at Glasto from what I've seen. It's not like they're dangerous. If we had them on as bracelets they wouldn't take them but then it'd be 4 hours by the time Muse were on stage and they might be dimming by then :( I'm still bringing some. It's worth a try. I wonder if they'll confiscate the aliens at Wembley?

I know people who went to Green Day at LCCC and didn't get there till 6pm but got quite near the front (not barrier though) so I think it'll be possible to get quite near the front and not be in danger. If you wanted to be at the barrier it'll probably be quite tough with a lot of pushing and shoving.

Cheers, I'm not looking to be at the barrier, it's deffinatly not safe for my mate, she's only 5ft 3" but it's nice to hear I can get away from the very back without being crushed :) Thanks for the info :p

BTW, if you have general admission tickets, is there still a certain gate you have to enter by? :$

Yeah I'll bring them too for sure. I'll just hide them in as much as possible! You'd think aliens would be pretty obvious, even deflated. I hope for their sake they don't! But my friends glow sticks were in her bag and they got taken away! So I don't know where they can hide an alien :(

As there is no golden circle at this gig (apparently!), you can rock up anytime and get a decent spot :)

I think so, we won't know which gates we have until tickets arrive though.

Stick 'em down yer trousers, that's how my friend smuggled in a full size toy lightsaber at Wembley in 2007
