So I have another demo song which we did today and it's vastly different. Still needs to be mixed and prettied up level wise but was just a basic idea to try some things. First time working in Reason and I was a bit off time with the keys due to the latency between Reason and Samplitude. It was like having someone play vastly off beat, several times a bar. Fucking frustrating. I'm on bowed bass which we recorded using a MIDI keyboard (cause I don't own an upright bass, yet). I also did the strings at the end which will be played on a keyboard by the vocalist live. This has the same guitarist as before and the drummer from the previous song is the vocalist on the recording. I don't think I would have bought it if it weren't me. And we discovered at the last moment how cheaply its been done. Its literally just your average blank Maxell disc, with your average Tesco hard case and a cover printed on your average printer paper (in colour, mind you). Then you put the CD in your CD player and you discover how fucking awful the music is. The songs are decent, but they've been recorded truly awfully. The quality isn't even as good as that demo of Hole In My Pocket that was posted here. And the mixing is even worse. You can barely hear the band over the vocals. And the vocals are even worse. I don't think I've ever given a worse vocal performance in my life, but it was recorded in such a rush that we didn't even have time to do any more takes. People are telling me its good, but I know shite when I hear shite. This isn't just the usual 'I'll say its bad so you tell me its good' situation, this is genuinely an awful EP. I cringe when I listen to it, not because I don't like my own voice, but because the whole thing is fucking awful. Having said that, if you want to give me your money I will gladly take it.
