Ril
hey i have a question for you. a bit personal, so i don't want exact figures, but as an unsigned band (i think you are?), do you make more than £10,000 a year from gigging?
Palo Alto
Ernest, The acoustic outro to Growser is beautiful. fantastic way to end the song, didnt expect it. best songs are unpredictable
Ernest
hey i have a question for you. a bit personal, so i don't want exact figures, but as an unsigned band (i think you are?), do you make more than £10,000 a year from gigging? the long answer would be... most signed bands dont make that much money. as an unsigned band you wont even brake even. every gig cost us money which has to come out of our own pockets. Van hire and diesel alone can come to 100quid for one gig. and we get paid... fuck all.( per gig ). unfortunatly, thats the way it is. the only gigs we get paid for are home town ( Hull ) gigs. we hire the venue and charge on the door. we made about 300 quid 2 weeks ago on a gig at Hull adelphi. but we purposfully dont play in Hull that much because you wont get anywhere playing in front of your mates. We get out of town gigs by sending the demo you have listened to. ( wont even start on the price of that ), but that will only get you one gig at a venue. after that, they will book you if you are good. and most will expect you to take 20 - 30 people with you.. and if you dont, guess what. you pay for 20 odd tickets yourself...... very few promoters are even interested in music. its a business, and they want to make money.. our last tour cost us about 500 quid for 2 weeks. sleeping in the back of a merc sprinter ( luckely i have a VW camper also ). However.. to say that it is worth it is an understatement. been on tour is the best feeling ever. so get a credit card and get in the back of a transit van.. btw.. the short answer... what was the question again... Ril
How do you get an mp3 up on this thread , I ve a few but don t know how to put them on here..? you have to upload them to some webspace and then tell kev. if you need help uploading just ask him hmm ernest the reason i was asking was because some guy on about sharing mp3s today used an argument that most bands don't make £10,000 a year. now i'd say you have to discount unsigned bands straight away as their material isn't accessible to download. but if you think about it, you also have to discount signed bands who aren't well known because if they aren't known then they won't be very easy to download. so that just leaves popular bands who have music that is easy to download. i'd find it very hard to believe if any of them aren't earning £10,000 a week let alone a year! so anyway, i just wondered how much unsigned bands made

Ril
well they should write good songs and not sell their rights then. considering downloading really took off in the late 90s, there are heaps of new bands around. anyway when are you coming to the midlands? then i'll bring 2 friends so you only have to pay for 17 tickets

donbenjy
yeh, if you have any advance copies of Eps/LPs id be really interested...i dont mind payin full price for it, even if you have them cos id rather the money go 2 the band, not the shop. i like your style, most bands would go for the rock/punk style because its easier, but tbh alot of it sound too similar or...crap fresh ideas ...n if you ever come to leicester, let me know
