Don't really know why some people hate that line so much. It's not the best lyric he's ever written but he's definitely written far worse! Agree that the way he sings it like "fiNAL soLUtiOHHH" live is kinda whack though.

Yeah reminds me of 'Let the Groove In' by JT a little which is great because that's a fantastic tune. I think someone's said before that it sounds more Linkin Park than RatM which I can agree with honestly. Sounds a little like Wretches and Kings. Obviously the guitar solo is very Morello though.

Muse Songs That Are Worse Than "Guiding Light"

It's a weird one for me. I can completely appreciate what you're saying here and I agree that the strings in particular are pretty gorgeous but I just find it goes on far too long and I get a little bored by it. Might get slaughtered for it but I actually kinda prefer the abridged version they use live these days if I'm honest.- 100 replies

There's a great TDS cover on YT where the guy takes a verse from Bliss and puts it in the middle. Sounds awesome.

I mean they both hammer on a tone up from the initial note but other than that i don't really hear it

I'm definitely interested to see how they do the medley(s). Whether it's song that just fit together - throwing a verse or the bridge from Bliss into TDS for instance - or whether it's literally just going to be for example a Drop D 5 minute riff jam of thing likes Agitated, Stockholm, Yes Please, Repears etc with a verse and chorus thrown in.

I wish we got insight into Matt's writing process like this more often tbh. Wouldn't have guessed that Pressure was Beatles influenced.

https://mytaratata.com/taratata/529/muse-pressure-2018 this is the link to Taratata! You can clearly see him playing the chord shape of just the eBG strings for the Bmaj chord in this one. Also if you pause straight at 2.52 in the Fallon one you can see it again. Index finger on the G string 11th fret, ring finger on the 12th fret on the B string and middle finger 11th fret high E. Definitely think the C chord is just the G and C notes now having seen the Fallon video though.

e--10-----10------| B--12-----10-----| G--12-----11-----| D-(12)---(12)----| A-------------------| E-------------------| X2 e---12----11---12----(12)--- B---12---12----12----13---- G---12---11----12----12---- D------------------------------- There ya go - Confirmed using the Taratata performance where you can see it pretty clearly. Only thing I'm not sure of is whether he's playing Cmaj or Csus2 as the final chord because it looks as if he's only playing the G and C notes but it sounds a little thicker.

It's really tough to be fair - especially playing it all on the G string like it is on the record!

Yesssss. His tones on the 2nd Law tour were actually pretty spot on for the most part. As Jobby said, ever since he's been relying on a mix of clangy, thin distortions and that really fuzzy, sub octave heavy tone a lot that is saturated in phaser it's just gone downhill.

Nah pretty certain it was literally just something like "have to ask will Break it to Me be played live"
-
It's so thin it's crazy. I use a digital setup myself but it's not that hard to get a thick and punchy sound doing so. I'd not be surprised if he used the kemper for a lot more than that given he's got two or three of them in his rack.

Still really like Blockades but while it was probably my favourite on initial listens, Propaganda and Algorithm have probably overtaken it. The contrast of frantic verse, soft pre-chorus and then exploding chorus is enjoyable and while I agree that the solo isn't Matt's best, it's needed in the song. ( Also, Defector's solo is okay but imo it's not as good as a lot of people say it is and I'll stand by that )

Enter Sandman riff in SMBH was cool. -
I thought that Bilbao performance with Morgan playing synth brass on the keys was great! But I will agree in saying that every time I've seen them do it with actual brass they've definitely struggled to get the balance of energy and mixing right! Especially on Fallon.

Agreed. If anything Blockades bares more similarities to the Handler than Butterflies and Hurricanes - the drumming in the solo, the progression in the verses, some of the vocal phrasing - but even then they're very loose.
