  1. Why would they put their 5 biggest singles all in a row at the end of the set? I don't get it. I really enjoyed during The Resistance tour when the encore was Overture>Stockholm>Knights.
  2. I agree. I've been relatively pleased with the first half of these sets, but the last stretch of songs is awful. They should at least move Reapers to the end to make it more even.
  3. If The Handler is not a staple from now on I am going to be extremely disappointed. That's the song I'm most excited to see, along with Stockholm Syndrome. Missing out on both would be tragic.
  4. I feel like there are going to be a similar amount of gigs in the U.S. as there has been in the past. I'm guessing these are the first gigs and the tour will run through the beginning of February.
  5. My list is the exact same except for Overture instead of UD.
  6. 1. Psycho 2. Supermassive Black Hole 3. Bliss 4. Map of the Problematique 5. Defector 6. Dead Star 7. Assassin 8. Plug in Baby 9. Showbiz 10. Citizen Erased 11. Hoodoo 12. Ruled by Secrecy 13. Space Dementia 14. The Handler 15. The Small Print 16. Reapers 17. Stockholm Syndrome 18. The Globalist (ends on final riff) 19. Knights of Cydonia
  7. I feel like I'm seeing more and more people including the bonus tracks as part of the albums and it really bothers me. I'm not sure they know they are just bonus tracks since they are included on Spotify and other things.
  8. Dead Inside: 7.5/10 - Not really what I want from Muse, but I've liked this track from the beginning and still do. I enjoy the solo, and Matt's vocals are top notch. I can feel conviction in his voice. I just really wish the album could have opened with something more impactful. Drill Sergeant + Psycho: 6/10 - Two things really bring down this song: repetition and the drill sergeant. Having to listen to those exchanges always bothers me and immediately takes me out of the song. And yeah, the riff is played way too many times. Should be much shorter. Mercy: 6.5/10 - Very forgettable, but I find myself enjoying it more than Psycho. I don't like the chorus very much, too many "Mercy!"'s. Though, it is catchy and doesn't have much to dislike. I'm glad there is some heaviness to it. Reapers: 9/10 - Really pleased with how this song turned out on the album. The main riff has a ton of punch. I enjoy almost every element of the song, and I like the technological feel to it. They successfully brought their live sound into the studio for the outro. Was my favorite song since BH&R other than Exogenesis. Until this next one. The Handler: 10/10 - After hearing Reapers I didn't know how much better Muse could do at this point. With this song they proved they can still make music as good as the best from any earlier album. This song does not have a single thing lacking for me. I'm surprised so many people feel the bridge is too long. I think the length works perfectly and I love the slow, subtle build of the drums. I can't stop listening to this song. Definitely in my top 10 ever, probably top 5. JFK + Defector: 8/10 - The JFK interlude works really well, blending the sinister guitar of The Handler before it with the uplifting Defector melody. Defector sounds too good for me to not enjoy it. The guitar and bass are very punchy and the riff is fun. The Queen-style vocals are too much, hopefully will sound better live. I also don't like the vocals or lyrics during the breakdowns. The higher guitar parts are one of my favorite things on the album. The song could be a little less repetitive. Revolt: 3.5/10 - I just don't understand how a song that sounds like this could make it onto the album. The verses and guitar solo have grown on me, so that brings it up to a 4. But my god, the pre-chorus is the single worst thing I've ever heard in a Muse song. It will probably stop me from ever wanting to listen to this. It's a shame that The Handler has to share such embarrassing company. Aftermath: 7/10 - This song is hard to rate. It has parts I really enjoy and parts that are just too cheesy. The chorus and ending sound like they should be in a Disney movie. I really like the guitar bits and some of the vocals, there is some beauty there. The Globalist: 8/10 - This is overall a good song, but a major disappointment, and not just because it was hyped as Citizen Erased's sequel. I love the first two thirds of the song. The slide guitar section is new for a Muse song and works really well. I wish more had been done with the main riff in the middle. The piano ballad at the end brings the whole song down and is far too long. My biggest disappointment in the whole song, however, is that they made one of the best parts ever in a Muse song when that Egyptian-sounding riff kicks in... but it only lasts like 15 seconds. Not even a single repetition. Then disjointedly goes into the tinkly piano. Come on Muse. Drones: 4.5/10 - Vocally impressive, but just doesn't really work on a rock album. There is too much going on throughout the entire song for my ears. The worst of any of Muse's closers by a long shot. The last 3 songs of the album all have parts that feel churchy to me, and I really don't like to hear that on a Muse album. Or in general really. Just makes for some boring music. Overall: 7/10 - Drones comfortably sits at 4th for me.
  9. You assure me of that? Really? And I never said subtlety was necessary, I said some subtlety would be nice. That is my opinion. Do you just like to argue for the sake of arguing or does it truly offend you every time someone dislikes something about Muse that you like? You seem very bothered by some things that shouldn't bother you so much. Lighten up. And you say some writers skip around the point with flowery diction as if it's bad when anyone is less in your face than Matt is on this album.
  10. We don't know what the lyrics would have been like before that advice, if there was even much of a difference. I personally really doubt the concept would be lost if some of the lyrics weren't so literal. And yeah, I'm not just talking about mentioning the word drones. That's fine. But some of the lyrics in this album are just way too in your face. Some subtlety sometimes would be nice.
  11. I edited my post because I didn't word it right. But someone up there just said that Matt said in an interview today that Mutt told him to make it more simple to understand. Don't think Matt would have mentioned that in an interview if he didn't actual use that advice.
  12. Really don't like that Mutt told Matt to make it more simple. Based on what Matt says in this interview I feel like he just looks for something that is somewhat interesting and runs with it, instead of writing things that sound original. I just think he's lost his touch lyrically. I like songs that leave some things to the imagination.
  13. Did you read all that the person was saying? I was responding to everything they were saying as a whole. And Matt says that the main story runs from Dead Inside through Aftermath, with The Globalist and Drones as a sort of possible outcome. He said he likes the ambiguity of not knowing whether it ends well for him or not.
  14. Yeah I know, the person was arguing saying that certain songs were forced in and not actually a part of the concept, and that stuff like Aftermath didn't make sense with things like The Globalist and Drones after it. I was saying that we know that The Globalist and Drones are a separate part from the main concept that runs from Dead Inside through Aftermath.
  15. The main reason this album as a whole really disappointed me was because, for the first time that I can think of, there are multiple songs that I really enjoy the majority of but have sections that majorly bring down the song. There is so much obvious potential that is lost. Examples being Aftermath, The Globalist, and even Revolt. I like the verses alright, but the pre-chorus is THE worst thing I've ever heard from Muse.
  16. 1. The Handler 2. Reapers 3. The Globalist 4. Aftermath 5. Dead Inside 6. Defector 7. Psycho 8. Mercy 9. Drones 10. Revolt And I actually really liked the JFK interlude as well. A good mix of the darkness of The Handler and the more hopeful sound from Defector. I want to listen to Aftermath while driving down a highway with the windows down in summer.
