  1. yeah that's true, I guess a lot of extreme metal could be put into one of those two camps, with Meshuggah and Neurosis being the flag-bearer for each, as it were. In all honesty Meshuggah are one of the few bands within the more futuristic brand of metal that I really enjoy, a lot of it I am really not into at all.

  2. The Meshuggah comparison is a good one actually, I'd never really thought of that before - outside of the style of music they are similar in a lot of ways. The conceptual heft behind both bands is just huge, and neither of them really make concessions for people, which is always a good thing.

  3. Through Silver In Blood is a huge album - to be honest first time I heard I wasn't that big on it, but I kept listening to it and it just became a huge thing to me. Certainly when it comes to mastodon there's a real influence on Dailor's drumming and Sander's basswork that comes from that record, I guess Locust Star would be the best example of that.

  4. Not a problem man, Neurosis are one of my favourites and it's great when other people like stuff I like. Byzantine seem pretty cool, way different from a lot of stuff I usually listen to, but that's a good thing, never hurts to have some variation. I quite like the vocals, not sure why people would take an issue with them - people complaining about the fact that they're clean at all must not have listened to a lot of the older metal acts.

  5. Animals is the best song on the album
  6. I like the banter but I'm not huge on the music they play I just posted what else someone could take from it. I would imagine that it's possible that regardless of the size of an entity they could still dislike a band, although I'm not saying that is necessarily what is happening. Do Don Broco, BMTH and whatever grime R1 is playing this week chart well? I don't know if they do or not.
  7. that isn't actually what they "said" though, that's just what you've inferred from it. Their newest releases have been by far the most accessible stuff they've ever put out so that line of thought doesn't really make sense to me. Panic Station in particular really doesn't sound a million miles away from a lot of the music R1 plays. I would imagine that people have generalized the green day comment which says that they are "not good enough" to muse as well, which isn't entirely unreasonable.
  8. might not be an instrument but the scope of musical possibility is far larger than it is with any selection of traditional instruments. I used to think the same thing as you until I heard Amon Tobin's stuff and got into IDM and trip-hop and electronic music in general.
  9. I would imagine it seems ridiculous since they have artists that are generally considered to be worse than Muse on playlists yet they are trying to present it as though they have some kind of stringent quality control system. That said there hasn't been a DJ on proper radio that has consistently played good/interesting music since Peel.
  10. I kinda agree with the sentiment of your post, I'll probably post an opinion that no-one will really care about in a little while
  11. I presume he's referring to the Faustian reference in the original song title for TSP unless you mean other musicians, in which case Robert Johnson springs to mind
  12. I can imagine that they'd be mindblowing live. The bands I saw were great fun, helped me to decide which bands I'll see when they tour as well, which is always good.

  13. How was Sigur Ros man? Just got back from Leeds, was great.

  14. Ahh nice, hows the piano lessons going? And yeah, should be pretty great, looking forward to it!

  15. It's because the most vocal NME readers feel the best way to show how much they think they like their music is by insulting what other people like, and they're the same people who won't be able to justify what they enjoy or why someone else shouldn't enjoy something, they'll just make "witty" comments about it.
  16. Heh, oh wow. I did click the button a few times before it did anything, that's probably why. Does seem funny that it would spam you with messages though, haha.

  17. Most of the time, yes. Hey, some people like talking about things they enjoy or are looking forward to. It's like reading a thread for a book which discusses all the plot-holes before you read the book, yes. The short sentence before was addressed to me and there was no paragraphing or any other means of distinguishing that there was any difference between the focal point of the previous sentence and the focal point of the sentence after that. You can hardly tell me off for poor reading comprehension when someone's grammar is wonky.
  18. B-but, you're missing the point, I wasn't complaining about you spoiling things for me, I do that for myself. I'm trying to stop you ruining Muse for the Muse fans. B-besides, you're..... mean.
