Neil.
Hey folks, So as i'm sure most of you can see, the old kitten is in a bit of a mess at the moment. Well the time has come to do something about it. The point of this thread is not just to be a random suggestions thread, but, instead it'll be a propper discussion on the things that can be done to improve KnT. If there are good ideas that the KnT community agree on, I'll implement them. There will be changes implemented. Any ideas that could be a bit iffy will still be discussed and considered, and I'll also discuss them with the rest of the moderating team. Kev is also going to be helping me with this, particularly on any difficult issues. Realistically though, we don't want to make a tonne of changes in one big leap, so this whole process of cleaning up KnT will probably take some time, but we'll get there. trad3mark
tomrulez
Here's an idea, although it could be time consuming. On all the main threads such as recommended gear, gen luthiery, pics of gear etc remove all the current tags which are pretty much useless as it's just been a place to spam and put some meaningful tags in. This way if someone searches for something the search results will be a bit more accurate. One of the main problems people have is that the search is pretty much useless but the tag system which is meant to allow more accurate searches has just been abused. Neil.
Considering how often people say "OMG UZE TEH SEARCH!" that is a good idea. If it's done with just the main threads too like luthiery etc then it would make search better.
Musemonkey1
Perhaps a re- jiggle of what threads are stickied, to make it easier for people new to the forum to reply to the appropriate threads, so they don't create a new thread for a topic that is already being discussed. Ideas;- Un- sticky the Muse Covers Thread, it is barely ever used. Sticky the General Luthiery Thread and possibly (un)Worthy Mods. Create a (Stickied?) thread for the Kitten Tabbers can socilise similar to what K&T Banter was until it turned into a big spam fest.

I agree about un-sticky-ing the Cover thread, although I don't think we should have all the regular threads stickied as there will be too many. Perhaps have something in FAQ detailing all of the most used threads and a link to each one.
Neil.
Create a (Stickied?) thread for the Kitten Tabbers can socilise similar to what K&T Banter was until it turned into a big spam fest. Unfortunately, i don't think a KnT banter type thread will be made for a LONG time. I agree, when it works, it's great, but it ultimately does get spammed to fuck at some stage or another. tomrulez
Kit and Tab FAQ could do with a bit of an update such as the "common threads" bit and also the non muse related stuff.
no3chris
might get hung drawn and quartered for this but.. been in KnT for a long time, and it all started to go down the shitter when mods tightened and started to make these threads for certain things, it may be good organising, but no one can talk anymore, you make a thread it gets locked or deleted. im not saying WHAMMYWHAMMYWHAMMY is acceptable obv not, but if you post people are either like, theres a thread for this.. or search.. how boring, its a forum your meant to connect with each other ! i know it wont change ! just my two cents ! haha
Neil.
as far as i'm aware, the mods never really had a problem with the banter thread till all the whammy spam type shit started. As popey said before though, in threads if general conversation breaks out, the mods aren't going to go mad. Like the thing is, myself and the other mods aren't going to go mad at the various lulz that happen, but when a joke goes too far, and becomes spam shite, as what happened with the whole whammy thing, then we have to step in. If there's a few people spamming the place with shite, and other members of the community are getting pissed off with it, then something kinda has to be done like. i understand the want for a banter type thread, but the last two have caused nothing but problems. cheddatom
Trademark did you copy that list of proposed stickies from the old suggestions thread? I don't have a copy and I thought it was a great idea. I hope it's not lost forever, i'll be pretty pissed off if so. A general point.... "all the whammy type spamming" is a misconception. The whammy meme was the latest incarnation of the kind of banter the geeks in KnT love, and it's been going on here for at least the last 3 years. cheddatom
Sorry, I thought the thread had been deleted.... Well, the other threads could just be merged into the sticky, but maybe you have a better idea there. Notation Requests - Bass Tabs, Guitar Tabs, Sheet Music Recommended gear/gear reviews - Bass, Guitar, Drums, Others Muse's Gear (already stickied I think) What order should I put my fx in? Neil.
i have the list tom. fear not babypuppy! as for the whammying, it did get to a stage, just before i was made a mod, where basically every post was answered with "if you whammy your whammy, you can whammy whammys with your whammy". It was way beyond a joke. edit: the only problem tom with stickying ALL of those, is that there'd be way too many sticky threads. I think if toms idea about the tags was put in place, it would make search easier. Similarly, an update to FAQ with links to all of those might make it easier. Guest bshuker
Can we get a thread to post random tidbits of gear type stuff, like little gear demo videos, or NAMM news, or stuff like that, that really doesn't deserve a thread by itself, and won't fit in our current structure of threads. I don't know how many more times I'm going to have to suggest this, but it's something we really DO need.
Neil.
not everyone enjoyed it. we're not trying to ban jokes/memes/luls etc, but when they get to the stage where people ask genuine questions like "I have a problem with my tremolo" and the first 20 replies to it are "if you whammy your whammy, your tremolo will whammy all of our whammys! :awesome:" then that just pisses people off and gets people nowhere. edit: Can we get a thread to post random tidbits of gear type stuff, like little gear demo videos, or NAMM news, or stuff like that, that really doesn't deserve a thread by itself, and won't fit in our current structure of threads. james90
http://board.muse.mu/showthread.php?t=50559 there you go. and as for the whole thing with threads being derailed, that shouldn't REALLY be a problem now from the looks of things - now that the main people that were causing that are banned. cheddatom
I can't see the issue with having too many stickies. I realise it will look untidy, but to new users, as long as the thread titles are simple and explanatory, it should be more helpful. The fact is, most of the queries asked/stories told/porn posted on KnT falls into the categories I listed. Anything else would be half way down the page, yes, but we wouldn't need anything else most of the time. A general "gear discussion thread" could be used to post videos of new peices of gear, or performances of specific stuff. If it's just videos of people you like, then it's not really relevant. If it's gear related, or geeky and music related in anyway, then it belongs in KnT, and I reckon 90% of that stuff could be posted and/or moved into the proposed threads. Even if they weren't stickies, they would stay on the first page as they are the most relevant topics. Maybe try it without stickying them to see what I mean. Phill
Go on then, 12 string electrics for less than a grand. So far I've only really tried the Burns Double Six and the Fender XII. Any suggestions? Ha, this is the suggestions for improving K&T. You want the recommended gear thread. I can see how you got confused though. Maybe this thread title needs a slight adjustment.
