    It's quite nice when you arrive at a more balanced view of Muse, after journeying down various rabbit holes. Certainly the likes of Weinman and Thorendal demolished my old "Bellamy is the greatest guitarist bar Hendrix" preconceptions in a hurry. Eh, I can return to most of Muse's stuff whenever it takes my fancy.

    And a GY!BE, Converge, Antlers, Isis (the band, not the murderous bastards), The National, Mastodon and Meshuggah thread. But most certainly not a Radiohead thread.

    I don't know what I'd consider to be the best music I've ever heard. Abso and Origin are somewhere in that top tier, but other than that and saying what else is in that mix, I'd struggle. Broadly, however, I echo what the potato said. There are plenty of more daring bands than Muse who deal in more "profound" stuff, at least to my ears.

    No. Matt rapping isn't a road I want to see them travel down, and what can they really add to one of those songs?

    I don't really see The Mars Volta's brand of prog suiting Muse at all, to be honest. I think something like Oceansize, Mogwai or Pelican would suit them much better.

    Because they have a monopoly. I mean, if you wanted a music player that wasn't a phone, who else would you go to?

    Monopolies annoy me in general, so Apple generally irk me even as I use an iPod. Speaking of too offensive for daytime radio, I heard some white guy with an acoustic guitar doing a medley of Black Skinhead. Swapping in "you people ain't breathing" and "just like the Romans, three hundred women" totally guts the song, would've been better off just skipping those words.

    Yeeeah buddy. Actually dude, what Deftones song would you have Muse cover? I could see them doing something cool with Change, if they could make it work as a faster song (and swap Chino's stuff on the bridge onto guitar).

    I never thought of any of their vocal tracks as heavily distorted. I really like the lyrics on Passenger, Change, Tempest and You've Seen The Butcher to name a few. Also Sextape's lyrics are really quite lovely.

    Do you really find them that hard to discern on there? I like Chino's lyricism, so I tend to pay quite a lot of attention to that stuff. I get the idea Muse could do a good cover of Digital Bath, actually. Although people might find the lyrical content off-putting.

    Elite has a weird, nauseous edge to it. Something about the murk, the effects on Chino's voice and of course the lyrics.

    Well, for Meshuggah you'd also need to chop up the riff and speed up other parts of the song 20 fold. I'd love to hear Deftones attempt a properly fast song sometime- Poltergeist is probably my favourite of theirs.

    I didn't re-read your post before adding my own, clearly. Balls. Map of the Problematique- I'd say the best thing Muse have done with electronic influences, apart from maybe Take A Bow. Love Dom's drumming on the track. Reminded of just how awesome the breakdown on Stockholm Syndrome is. Would love to hear it played with a Meshuggah/Deftones-heavy guitar sound.
