  1. Can't work out getting the TG-4's video mode to focus, but the photos are coming out rather nicely. Might try the RAW mode soon. These are only from facebook, so not great quality. Nascent thunderstorm. Sadly, despite all the storms we had in the Alps I didn't manage to get any lightning shots. The super macro mode is really neat
  2. It's my brother, who's heard all their albums, and who I've introduced to Slayer, Meshuggah (even if he wasn't keen on them) and other such acts. To be honest, going on our conversations about the new songs so far, we might as well be listening to different songs. Apparently the sirens and distorted wails are what push it over the edge.
  3. I've heard it said that Reapers is the scariest Muse song. Does anyone on here think that? Because I don't see how anyone could come to that conclusion.
  4. Olympus should've arrived today, but it hasn't been prepared for dispatch yet Just want it here by Friday. Edit: got it now Give me a couple of weeks and I should have some nice Alpine snaps.
  5. There are plenty of fine drummers who play largely in 4/4 without going massively complex. System of a Down, At the Drive-In and Rage Against the Machine (see that point where Ashes In The Fall gets really angry) all spring to mind.
  6. I never said I wanted complexity, certainly not on a Billy Rymer or Chris Adler level. But there's a key difference between the likes of Newborn (which is straight 4/4, but is played ) and Psycho in terms of drumming. Newborn's drumming (and really the drumming on all of Origin) is busier and adds to the song's momentum. I was criticising Dom's stylistic choices, because I don't think it does work all that well. I'd much rather Psycho had a busier, more fun drum part (see something like Pantera's Cowboys From Hell, where the drumming bounds along with the guitars) and Mercy needs something more lively. Dom has never been a particularly complex drummer, I get that. But he's generally played with more energy and variety before, which added to my enjoyment of those songs.
  7. I'm a little concerned that Dom's drumming is rather lacking in terms of variety (though credit to Bumpy for thinking of it first) and leaning on that stomp too much. Reminds me somewhat of Arctic Monkeys' last album so far in that regard.
  8. Hey, wee heads-up. Chaos Divine and Byzantine's new albums are cracking :D

  9. In a quandary as to whether I should get the Panasonic TS5 or Olympus TG-4. Latter is better but about £100 more expensive. Then again I'll probably keep it for a couple of years long.
  10. Found an album by Chaos Divine which I think you'll dig :) Really pretty, melodic metal.

  11. It's nothing we haven't heard before. Reminds me of Starlight and The Resistance, plus Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses? by U2. I was hoping that Matt would dial the Mercury-isms back a bit.
  12. Damn, Olympus' new tough compact sounds sweet. More importantly, I really hope this means the price on the old one drops some more- £250 is probably the upper end of my budget just now.
  13. I just like the idea, more than anything else. Plus video quality's ahead of most other compacts (though all I really need from that is for it to be on a par with a GoPro 2- my current compact's footage is discernibly worse than that).
  14. Hard-rock with a serious sci-fi bent. Killing Joke-style distant roars, big bass riffs and hyperactive synths.

  15. I really want a Nikon 1 AW1- it's about the only tough camera that does RAW files- but I suspect it'll be too pricey for me. Currently waiting to see if there's a replacement for Olympus' top-tier waterproof model coming soon.
  16. You might like the No Spill Blood album, been listening to it a lot lately.
