  1. The worry is that they won't pursue it with the fire that they demonstrated on those albums. There are many precedents for this- Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth's alleged comeback albums, U2's post-Pop output, Sepultura returning to thrash metal... I'm hoping Muse do what Machine Head have been doing since 2005- not merely returning to their old sound, but expanding on it and pushing their boundaries.
  2. That's a good point. I ought to check out more of their stuff, but I don't much time sat around with my stereo these days. Came across a good post-hardcore act called Hawk Eyes lately, though.

  3. I wouldn't say ubiquitous. And I just meant that if they have written something on a par with Micro Cuts in terms of weirdness and heaviness, that won't find a single release. If anyone doubts,
  4. Realistically, if the album does rock hard, the first single probably won't be that heavy. While they might want to make a statement of intent, they don't want to scare off more casual fans.
  5. Are they any good? If anyone's wondering what those acts sound like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV9xgHaOeJU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cni7N5Fj8K4 Ignore the hideous artwork.
  6. I'd quite like Muse to go into similar territory to Textures or Shattered Skies. Groovy, melodic and big-sounding heavy stuff. It'd be nice to hear a band operating in the djenty area where the bassist isn't frequently swallowed up by the eight-stringers.
  7. I doubt there's much chance for a truly innovative band to gain much attention these days, but I broadly agree. Royal Blood's niche seems to be "accessible alternative" rather than properly mainstream. Haven't heard them on mainstream radio apart from four or five plays on Radio 1. Nonsense. There are a host of blogs and websites for any scene you want these days. No Clean Singing and Heavy Blog Is Heavy have introduced me to some awesome new albums lately.
  8. I think grittier would've taken away from the glacial aspect, if you know what I mean.
