  1. Just because they don't write them doesn't mean they shouldn't receive credit for playing them well. Plus, I'm sure they bring their own ideas to the table when it comes to finishing the songs.
  2. Yeah, this. NME is utter wank most of the time but there's nothing wrong with that headline If you're referring to the whole 'dark forces' thing, that came from the band themselves.
  3. I think it's fun on the record. It's become boring as fuck live now though, especially with the pointless 2 minute harmonica intro. As much as I think it's overrated, CE is the archetypal Muse song.
  4. Oh, yeah I figured he thought it was an iTunes interview, or maybe he got iTunes mixed up with iHeart? I dunno. Either way, the 9 minutes thing is legit.
  5. That's not what they're talking about. Another source (Maybe an interviewer? I can't quite remember) came out before those fake track times were released and described The Globalist as being 9 minutes long.
  6. Yarp. Slightly concerned that it doesn't really sound like there's much in the song to warrant it being 9-12 minutes long. From what we know, the only parts seem to be Whistling + acoustic > slide guitar > metal riff/heavy section > dramatic piano + strings outro. Hope it doesn't feel overly-long and strechted out for no reason like Psycho
  7. 1) Reapers - Could fall flat on the album but fucking great live, one of the best songs since BH&R. 2) Dead Inside - Decent pop song. Some pretty generic instrumental work during the second half but some great vocals redeem it. I don't love it but it's pretty good. 3) Psycho - Fun all-round and some catchy melodies. Dull, repetitive riff/chorus brings it down though. Overall, decent but not great. 4) Mercy - Catchy, head-bobbing verses but dull-as-fuck chorus with lazy lyrics. Doesn't really go anywhere either. The worrying thing for me from these reviews is that it doesn't really seem to get any better, other than The Handler and The Globalist.
  8. To be fair, most of them seem to be singling him out for his lyricism and the quite heavy-handed/patronising/niaive message of the album, which are all down to him. More credit towards Chris or Dom for decent bass or drum parts would obviously be nice though.

The pop/catchy descriptions don't worry me, that part actually sounds quite encouraging. The U2/With Or Without You comparisons remind me too much of Big Freeze to expect good things though.
  10. At least Dizzee was fun and tried to get the crowd going though. Bastille were genuinely the most boring, dull band I've ever seen (aside from Interpol). As for support this tour (probably more suitable for the UK one next year): Courtney Barnett, Slaves or Post War Glamour Girls pls. For the US: Lucius? Saw them support Jack White last year and thought they were great.
  11. I was really interested in the topic of drones and how the album would cover it but this is sounding seriously ham-fisted, even by Matt's standards
  12. Yeah, they're quite a polarising band so reviews should rarely be taken as gospel (unless you're familar with the reviewer and tend to agree with them I guess). Also, opinions and subjective etc. etc.
  13. Cheers to both of you who posted the review. Well, the reviews don't exactly inspire me with confidence so far. I guess they're only reviews though, and that one doesn't touch on The Handler or Defector. All in all, given everything we know, I'm expecting to at least like about half the album and love two or maybe three songs, which ain't too bad I suppose.
  14. I think it varies. Looked up some live versions, sometimes he sings 'visions' and sometimes 'rhythms'. Might be a mix of both on the record, hard to tell. First one (on the album) definitely sounds like 'rhythms' to me.
