Hard to judge from the YouTube vid how the bass will turn out in the end, but in comparison to the original it definitely sounds like they pushed it to the background. That would be a shame, the simple bouncy beefy bass line is essential. Did they announce when they’ll release the full version?

Yeah. I’m worried about the drums. If the drums in Hyper Music, New Born and Space Dementia end up with the same issue, any improvements to those songs will basically be wasted.

Megalomania sounds great! I alway thought that one missed the depth it deserved. Much better layering now, in both the loud and quiet bits, though the drums in the loud bits suffer from the same issue as the CE remix.

It wouldn't be Muse if Matt wasn't talking out of his arse half the time though, so at least there's consistency there.

I don't really mind. I'm sure there were many things they "meant" or wanted to do back then that they didn't have the means or skills or time to pull off, and thank God they didn't, cause it turned out perfectly. If they want to make a less-perfect rendition today --with a silly name and a crappy version of the original album artwork-- thinking it's what the album should have been, who cares? We get an extra interpretation to listen to and neither our memories, nor the original recording will be replaced.

I think the mix in the riff comes closer to the RATM feel I imagine they were trying to go for back in the day. I really like this mix, can't wait to get a proper high quality listen. Only gripe is that it sounds like it doesn't bleed over into Micro Cuts anymore. Oh well... EDIT: Oh crap, it IS available on Amazon Music. It wasn't popping up in my search results. Having a high def listen now.

So will this be a digital release in addition to vinyl? The mix must sounds better in HD than on YouTube.

It's a bit like what Nirvana did with the In Utero 20th anniversary remixes, where Steve Albini redid the mixes using alternate takes and never-used elements that ended up on the cutting room floor. They released them as a box set added as a second disc to accompany the original (albeit remastered) mixes. I still listen to those new mixes every now and then, as well as the original album. Since box sets don't make much sense in the digital age, this vinyl OoS release makes a lot of sense. Of course it's not meant to replace the original or official versions. You'd have to travel back in time to do that.

It was, the setlist anagrams were the high point for sure (in the Main Muse section anyway). Too bad that board crashed and everything was lost. Apparently those Italian Muse blogs are a bit sturdier, if posts from 2004 are still around. EDIT: I tried to find those old threads in the Wayback Machine. I can see the thread title "New Songs" but sadly the insides haven't been archived. Bummer.

Ha! I remember this! This was when they were touring the US at the tail end of the Absolution tour. The time of the setlist anagrams. They introduced early versions of Assassin, Glorious, Crying Shame and Exo Politics to the crowds in this period. There were muffled recordings going around, and the board tried to decipher them. These four new songs kept having different names on the set list, a direct communication between the band and the board. Song names were anagrams, which were just fun at first and later turned into a bit of a treasure hunt. (This is where Debase Mason's Grog comes from, for example, a name used for Assassin that's an anagram of Message Board Song.) Anyway, Glorious at the time was listed as New Song (DES) on the setlist. This was not an anagram, but a note to their roadie, Des, that he had to set something up for that song (A specific tuning for the guitar or something, I don't remember). I speculated that it stood for Dead End Street and trolled the board into thinking that was the actual title. It stuck around for a while. I even heard an anecdote that the band picked up on it and started calling their roadie Des "Dead End Street" for a bit. Anyway, back to those muffled recordings. In the threads for the new songs there were multiple serious and trolling attempts to decipher the lyrics. Someone heard Pee Candle in Exo Politics, and that was the Muser name for that song for a while. As for Glorious (Or Dead End Street ), there were many different people trying to decipher a very muffled early recording, and the above interpretation was definitely mine. Anyway, that's the story kids. Funny this made its onto a lyrics site.

Where do we put Jaded Heart Club discussions? Anyway, Matt's baseline in I Put a Spell On You is pretty much just an exact rehash of Feeling Good. Which is nicely familiar.

I appreciate and enjoy it. Would be very nice to see live in an intimate setting. I suppose, when commenting on a cover, one has to mention how it compares to the original, and this doesn't come close, but that's totally ok. For some reason I've rarely been on board with Matt's post-BHaR sincere voice and this is not one of the exceptions. Must be a personal thing, it's not a judgement of quality by any means. Anyway, I'm very happy with his 2020 solo releases, keep them coming!

Funny how when you're young spending your entire life savings on something like that makes more sense than spending just a fraction of your income on it when you're older.

Yeah, definitely not the right voice for that song, especially since they kept the instrumentation so close to the original. I might have worked in a more gritty version.

I see this as a home recording, not really a single or official release, and in that context I find the voice and recording quality endearing. I don't see it as an attempt to change or improve the original song, but more like a social media post sharing what he's playing around with and what resonates with him emotionally at the moment.

I see, yeah, I misread that. I too prefer the more fragile effortless falsetto in the original, but those days are gone and that's fine. I don't think this version sounds too forced, only the "had before" bit sounds like he's pushing it a bit. Overall, I prefer these vocals to his sound in a lot of Muse's recent work.

It's harder to belt in your living room. Can't wake up the baby.
