musestu Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Oh my god- best muse song ever? It is the one b-side you have to hear
Carbo Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 imo one of their best releases, was even going to animate something to it once. Funny, back when it was released it was dropped from the original Origin Of Symmetry cause of its difficulty to play live, although I bet that if they'd release the album now then it could have made it onto the release. I mean there are quite more advanced songs that Muse has made nowadays and that they play live too.

Why is it difficult to play live- if you talk about the high, high, high in the middle look at what he did to muscle museums ending
Carbo Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Why is it difficult to play live- if you talk about the high, high, high in the middle look at what he did to muscle museums ending ? I have no idea what you meant by that. The song itself is about a futuristic world, hence the pre-release name of "Electro Empire", and fits into the theme of Origin of Symmetry, but wasn't included due to its difficulty to play live.
Clunge Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I can't see why it would be difficult to play live. The bass line is simple, as is the guitar so unless Matt has difficultly singing it or singing and guitarist, I don't get why it would be difficult to pull off.
Nimpo46 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 on the early live version it sounded quite weak, so maybe they felt they just couldn't get the same strength as the studio version...
dead-duck Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 'tis a very fun song to sing along with, especially the end
bellamy'szetagirl Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Great song! I agree that the old live version (that I've heard) wasn't very good. But I'd really love to hear it live now though. Note to Muse:PLEASE play Futurism during the next tour
musestu Posted March 7, 2009 Author Posted March 7, 2009 I haven't heard it live- but old muse were a whoe lot more eraatic than they are now
Carbo Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 I haven't heard it live- but old muse were a whoe lot more eraatic than they are now But they weren't as good as they are now with performing, they improved over the course of the albums obviously. Allmusic's review at Black Holes pretty much said it, they sound more solid as a band now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGEHGTxuFYQ Only performance of Futurism.
In Ryanbows Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Ah, Futurism. My all-around favorite Muse song. I want to hit U.S. iTunes on the head with a rake so hard for not having it. I think they should have not only included it on the album, but released it as a single. It could have been one of their most popular songs, up there with Time is Running Out, Knights of Cydonia, and Supermassive Black Hole. If I could use only one word to describe Futurism, it would have to be 'perfect'.
*OoS* Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Ah, Futurism. My all-around favorite Muse song. I want to hit U.S. iTunes on the head with a rake so hard for not having it. If I could use only one word to describe Futurism, it would have to be 'perfect'. Too proper hardcore to be one of the most popular, IMO. Which is as it should be - people pretending to adore it 'cause its cool to "love" Muse. Why if somebody came up to me and said "Muse are my favourite band, Starlight's my favourite song - I saw it in x movie," I'd go "What about Futurism?" And I bet they'd go ":stunned: wtf are you on about?"
khfreek Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I wouldn't go so far as to say it's my favorite, but it is in my opinion the best vocal performance found in any Muse song.
musestu Posted March 14, 2009 Author Posted March 14, 2009 I dont like the vocals at the finale but apart from that very impressive vocals.
musex Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Actually , Futurism is one of my fav. B sides , I still can´t understand how someone so young has the ability to make music expressing such deep feelings with simple but strong melodies that really make shivers down my spine .... Matt is someone very special!
Calliope. Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Thread revive Listening to it now, it has to be one of the best b-sides. The last lines of the song are the best, along with the bell of the cymbal in the intro

miss_meadows Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Great song, I LOVE IT! It's so powerful, dark, emotional. I really love it, the lyrics, the screaming, everything about it. I'm in love with that song. (I don't get that feeling with any of the TR songs. )

Hopix Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Pretty good song. At the end of the day I prefer Spiral Static though.
llamafish164 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Wow that is wierd. Just yesterday I was thinking how underrated Futurism is and how little say it gets in this forum. On UK iTunes Futurism is the 13th song on OOS for some reason. Anyway thanks for this thread!
