  1. Well, apparently it's reasonable now to hate something not only before it comes out, but before any previews of it are released and before it is even confirmed to be happening. I mean, please correct me if I'm not understanding this correctly, but isn't the only known thing about this album some pictures of Matt holding an acoustic guitar? Isn't it unfair to judge an entire album based on the one unconfirmed thing people know about it? Remember when people freaked out about The 2nd Law because "it was a dubstep album"? Then the album came out, and, whether you liked it or not, only four of the thirteen tracks slightly resembled dubstep. And SS, I wholeheartedly agree that people shouldn't blindly go in liking this album just because it's Muse, either. I'm certainly not saying that this album will definitely be good. In fact, that's my whole point, that we as fans shouldn't have preconceptions, good or bad, about how a thing is going to be without more confirmed information about it. At least with The 2nd Law, we had the excuse that Muse trolled all of us by releasing the dubstep track as the album's trailer. I'm assuming this is sarcasm, then? Y'all really aren't going to let that go, are you? Fine, you know what? Maybe I overreacted back then, and maybe I overreacted here, but I just find it highly illogical to automatically hate something when the only thing confirmed about it is a silly Facebook picture. But again, maybe I'm missing something else about this album that you guys are aware of.
  2. I dunno, automatically hating on something before it's even released, had any previews, or is entirely confirmed? Don't you think that may be going a bit too far? Or maybe I'm the one who is just too optimistic for this board--I am TheHappySpaceman, after all.
  3. And now I can't not think of that when I hear that line. Damn you, Jobby! (Kidding, of course. Actually, I feel like quoting you on that when I eventually make a "Top 10 Silliest Muse Lyrics" video.) The sarcasm is strong with this one... Eh, fair enough. Still, things have grown a lot more paranoid recently, between terrorism, school shootings, and general increased violence, and I doubt that I would be able to get away with writing lyrics about blowing up my hometown of Charlottesville. Hey, while I'm talking to you: May I quote this for my "Silliest Muse Lyrics" video? It was very informative. Hey, it's all good! Part of the point of this thread is that good songs can still have silly lyrics, and I doubt that Matt meant to rip off Rick Astley there (though at the same time, if he did, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised). Any particular highlights? (My guess is either "You are my Muuuuuuuuuuu... ...uuuuuuse," "She attacks me like a Leo when my heart is split like Rio," and Matt's mumbling in French.)
  4. Hey-hey, I'm back in this forum to find that it's just as optimistic as ever! Honestly, I wouldn't mind more acoustic guitars being used in a new album. When Matt or Chris have pulled out the acoustic in the past, it has resulted in some pretty good tracks. Remember Soldier's Poem? Or City of Delusion? Or Hoodoo? Or, oh, here's a good one, Unintended? Yeah, those are all pretty beloved songs from what I understand, so I see no reason why the new album would suck apart from a bunch of pessimists hating on something just because it isn't Origin of Symmetry. Give it a chance, guys. You may wind up liking it.
  5. Let's bring life back to this thread! First of all, in "Falling Down" from Showbiz, Matt Bellamy talks about blowing up his hometown: "I'm falling down And fifteen thousand people scream They were all begging for your dream I'm falling down Five thousand houses burning down No one is gonna save this town" Which, uh, is a little weird to say the least. I know that I would never be able to get away with writing songs about blowing up my hometown without being placed under serious investigation; then again, that song was not written in the era of terrorism that we're living in today. And yes, it is actually about him blowing up Teignmouth; Matt even confirmed it! The second lyric is from "Endlessly" off of the Absolution album, and it is interesting because while I'm sure it wasn't silly when it was released, it is bloody hilarious in hindsight. "I won't give you up I won't let you down" Let's just say that it's very similar to another set of... meme-worthy lyrics.
  6. Phew! For a second, I was fearing that there was a big Muse/Queen fanbase feud like the one that's still going on between Muse and Radiohead fans. Then again, neither will top the Star Trek vs. Star Wars argument.
  7. Okay, I had originally written a big rant that I decided not to post here due to it possibly being too angry and too offensive. Though hey, if enough of you ask for it, I might. Anyway, to condense this argument down to a much less angry tone, I feel like the people here have become too unaccepting of others' musical tastes. Yes, every fanbase has its share of assholes, but with these people in the past few comments hating Muse because they pay homage to some of their biggest musical influences, I feel like the assholes are the majority of the users here. Or at least the most vocal. Also, people hate Queen? Since when? Queen is awesome. Queen is one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Not everyone is just going to "get over them" because in certain people's opinions, they are "gack" with only "infrequent decent bits," and that goes for me. I have been a huge Queen fan ever since I first heard A Night at the Opera at age four, and if you don't like having your musical tastes mocked, you can understand how I feel. Basically, here's what this boils down to: Like the artists and musical styles you like. Don't bash other people's tastes just because they're different than yours. That's a dick move. If we all follow these rules, we can all get along better, okay?
  8. True. Carry on, then. I never denied that it was. At least it wasn't "Its scent is still growing in my direct-shoon," though. Why, yes, because how dare Muse, a great band, sound remotely like Queen, another great band? They should sound like One Direction instead!
  9. Oh honey, there's a whole thread for bad Muse lyrics. To me, it seemed like it came right out of a nu-metal song. I thought that Matt had been replaced by Fred Durst for a second. Hey, that line was good! Well, "blue blood" and "yellow belly" are real expressions. I think the line could have been worded better, but I see what he was going for. I guess you could say... he's a scatmatt! Ski-bi dibby dib yo da dub dub, yo da dub dub, ski-bi dibby dib yo da dub dub, yo da dub dub (Hey, I mean he's already proven his beatboxing skills, so why not?) Last I checked, Matt didn't use the distorted vocals on that song. Or did he? I thought that was all Chris.
  10. Not really. You know what's cringeworthy? "Why can't you sleep with someone who'll protect you?" Now that's cringeworthy.
  11. I agree. Matt Bellamy's lyrics are mostly enjoyable, regardless of whether they're good or bad. The only ones I don't find enjoyable are those few that are just cringeworthy.
  12. True enough. It's still a magnificent line, though, regardless of whether he wrote it.
  13. It's happening soon It's happening soon Its scent is still blowing in my direct-shoon
  14. Okay, I don't know if this counts since Matt himself didn't technically write the line, but "Life is short and filled with stuff" is one of the most amazing bad Muse lyrics of recent years.
  15. Okay, I don't know if this counts since Matt himself didn't technically write the line, but "Life is short and filled with stuff" is amazing.
  16. I think I've seen it. I recall that it was only available on iTunes for a while, but it was pretty quickly uploaded onto YouTube by someone else.
  17. I feel like the "green" bit was supposed to be referring to money. Envy could also be part of it. Oh god, I remember those. At first, I thought those were just part of the instrumental track. Do we also count Muse's collaborations on this list? Because "Who Knows Who" is pretty goofy.
  18. Let's hope this doesn't go the same course as that Tokyo Zepp live DVD.
  19. Their best era? Well, I'd love to see them play Absolution again, too, but none of those songs are from that album. That was hands down my favorite live performance of that song. It blended what was great about both piano and guitar versions of the song.
  20. Sadly, that happens a lot. I think George W. Bush used "Times Like These" without Foo Fighters' permission, even after the band members themselves supported John Kerry. Not to mention that Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy" was used by George H. W. Bush without his permission. The latter case cause McFerrin to stop playing the song in his concerts despite it being his biggest hit. And all that is 100% legal.
  21. Yeah, but how does he play the low A notes in the hard rock section of The Globalist with it? You can clearly hear that it's tuned up to standard tuning for the chords he's playing in the first part.
  22. Though, side question: I though Matt used a seven-string during The Globalist, but when I saw the Glastonbury video, his guitar appeared to only have six strings. Also, it appeared to be a Stratocaster, which is odd since I thought he only played Manson guitars. Any thoughts about this?
