Best Live Performance of any one song
TheHappySpaceman replied to Alistair Hay's topic in Songs & Releases
I've only ever seen one live video of CoD, and I can confirm this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcIUo9GpWck- 2,965 replies

Yeah, I saw it at Washington, D.C.'s Verizon Center, where the setlist was kind of all over the place*, but it seemed to fit before we got KoC. *Not that I mind this, of course. It meant that we got Citizen Erased out of it.

I think it works a lot better in a live environment, or at least the one I saw it at.

Fair enough. I mean, a lot of them are just Matt fiddling around on his guitar's effects pad or pedal (Invincible, Supermassive Black Hole), or him just repeating the same eight-bar phrase over and over again (Uprising), or him just playing an ascending scale (Psycho). Then again, this solo in particular reminds me of a lot of great classic rock solos--I'm thinking AC/DC in particular--so it gets a thumbs-up from me. Hey, have you seen what happens when you get too controversial? You have an entire website turning against you and collectively calling you racist. I would rather this discussion not get into that territory.

Reapers contains one of my favorite solos in recent Muse history.

For a second, I was afraid that Dom would remove the snares from the snare drum and take the St. Anger approach. Then I remembered that Dom isn't stupid.

Well, okay, but the fact that there is a large group of people who still believe that Muse is a Radiohead ripoff makes me lose some hope for the world.
-
Actually, now that I think about it, weren't even their first albums hated because people (read: idiots) thought they were a ripoff of Radiohead?

I know that comparing Muse to Queen is a little overdone now, but if Freddie Mercury was able to rock the fully-packed Wembley Stadium while spending half of his set behind a piano, then shouldn't Matt be able to do the same? And no, Matt is obviously no Freddie Mercury, but still, it can't be that hard.

Yes. It always bugs me how little piano Matt plays in concerts anymore. He usually uses it for maybe two or two-and-a-half songs. In Hullabaloo, he used it for six; hell, on Absolution Tour, he technically used it on seven. Come on, Matt, don't completely abandon it as an instrument!

What was the first Muse song you listened to?
TheHappySpaceman replied to Boombleeb's topic in Songs & Releases
Uprising. Heard it on the radio, really enjoyed it, and checked out The Resistance. (Don't hate me.) -
Ssh, don't say those words around here! People here don't like Soldier's Poem or Queen! (Kidding!)

Best Live Performance of any one song

Let's just hope he doesn't abandon the guitar on more songs. That's one of the key aspects of what we love about his music so much.- 2,965 replies

Best Live Performance of any one song
TheHappySpaceman replied to Alistair Hay's topic in Songs & Releases
Do you think Matt has back problems? He has been retiring a lot of "heavy" guitars recently. That would also explain why he's taken to not playing guitar on a lot of songs.- 2,965 replies

For some reason, "Dead Inside" really reminds me of Depeche Mode, though I can't think of which DM song it reminds me of. Edit: Whoops, wrong thread!

Aaaaand no. (Especially considering that it's clear Matt won't bring back the guitar on it any time soon.)

I wouldn't mind seeing Uprising as a gig closer. (Well, as long as Matt plays guitar all the way through.)

Not because of Muse, silly. (Also, they aren't bad.) My mom lost her job and my dad is in danger of losing his. They both had a huge argument last night and they were yelling within feet of my ears. Due to me having hypersensitive hearing, which means that loud or discordant noises are amplified for me, so my ears have been ringing since. Oh yeah, and both threatened to kill themselves at separate times, which makes me wonder if I was the cause of any of this and if I should do the same.

Great. Glad we could come to that conclusion. And sorry if I came off as angry earlier. I'm really stressed out and in pain right now.

Okay, fine, whatever. So it's dabbling in different genres. Happy now?

There's nothing objectively wrong about saying "I think Drones is a good album" and praising it for thing you think it did well.

Soooo... what am I supposed to get out of this, then? The album is bad and my opinion that it's good is objectively wrong just because you guys don't personally enjoy it like I do? Is that what I'm supposed to take from this?
