  1. I have an original thought! Muse should make second-night syndrome an official thing. That is, they should visit major cities around the world, and perform two shows at each. Night 1 - Hits and album songs - Performed at a stadium/arena - 360 degree stage Night 2 - Fan favourites and deeper cuts - Intimate club gig
  2. I said "people (slash women?)". Sippe responded that the "slash women" was the issue, so obviously if he weren't singing about women it would be fine. My question: If Matt were gay and singing about dudes, could you plausibly see anyone scrambling to find reasons why the song is offensive? I can't.
  3. Black holes are the cancer of the universe, they feed off their surroundings and use the sustenance to continue growing infinitely. This being a metaphor for narcissistic people (slash women?) who suck the life out of you to feed their own ego. Basically the same meaning as Dead Inside but a lot more opaque in its description.
  4. I think you mean mp_vacant ;)

  5. The only one I could really see doing a solo album is Matt. He'd probably recruit Dom and do a Coldplay-on-the-radio sort of thing, steeped in synth walls and pop harmonisation. Most Muse fans will hate it. Chris has already given us a decent idea of what his solo work might sound like. Can't say I'm terribly excited to hear more.
  6. I just checked a few: Hullabaloo: 157 bpm Glasto 2004: 150 bpm Glasto 2010: 144 bpm Mayan 2015: 151 bpm So it's actually faster than Glasto 2004 now. Still needs more post-piano guitar wanking though.
  7. Some older songs lose their live spontaneity and energy when played to a metronome, especially when they set the metronome to a tempo much lower than early performances. New Born is a big offender, compare these:
  8. The point is to give the songs equal weighting so the setlist isn't biased towards a specific audience. When the setlist contains more than half of the album you're promoting, and more than a dozen of your biggest hits, there's no real reason not to give the same attention to your back catalogue. Revolt, The Handler, Dead Inside, Mercy are all much harder.
  9. I don't understand why it's so hard to cover all the bases. 21 song setlist = 7 + 7 + 7 7 Drones songs Psycho Dead Inside Mercy Reapers The Handler Revolt The Globalist 7 hits TIRO Hysteria Starlight SMBH Knights Uprising Madness 7 fan favourites from Muscle Museum Sunburn Uno New Born Bliss Hyper Music Plug In Baby Feeling Good Citizen Erased Dead Star Apocalypse Please Stockholm Syndrome Butterflies & Hurricanes Fury Map of the Problematique Assassin Unnatural Selection United States of Eurasia Supremacy Survival ??? Muse ???
  10. I have a bad feeling Reapers will be this album's Take a Bow/Survival. Huge live song, played at most shows but not guaranteed, and once the tour is over we'll hear very little of it again.
  11. Thankfully Tumblr doesn't actually have any idea of the things they whinge about. If they'd seen the Mercy video, there would be widespread gig protests and a petition to ban Muse from the US.
  12. Fuck off. Uprising is mostly octaves and power chords, there's nothing really interesting about that stuff. Omitting it could even be seen as a confession that the song has lackluster guitar work in parts. I'm not a big fan of the song either way, so not overly concerned with whether or not Matt is on guitar. Picking up the guitar and launching into a solo is kinda cool, which is probably the intended reaction. It helps further their transition from a music concert to an audiovisual spectacle, with Matt now changing his role in the music not only mid-concert, but also mid-song. Picking up a guitar and immediately starting to play is also kinda tricky, so it implies virtuosity. What I don't like is playback. Unless Morgan has a special setup that routes his guitar to an arpeggiator, you can't really play guitar and synth at the same time. It's not like this is the first time they've used playback in a song, but it's definitely a new level when the guitarist and synth players are perfectly capable of playing their parts, but instead delegate only partially to maintain the spectacle, picking their instrument back up when the "cool" parts begin. The music has now officially become secondary to the performance, which is really saddening and frustrating.
  13. Curiously what kind of sounds would you like them to pursue? Directions I'd love them to explore next album include - Hard-hitting synthrock songs i.e. Dead Inside, Easily - Over-the-top electro-tinged hard rock/metal i.e. Reapers, Take a Bow - Dark and heavy grooves i.e. The Handler, Fury - Prog that moves between gentle and heavy extremes i.e. The Globalist, Citizen Erased Not entirely sure if I'd want another Revolt. Stylistically it's probably closest to Guiding Light, so the brilliant cheesiness we ended up with seems like a fluke.
  14. The rule is not to speculate on private details that the band haven't shared, and health issues are about the worst kind of speculation you can make as they tend to be spread around as misinformation. There's no need to be upset...
  15. Guys please read the rules, speculating on Matt's health breaks two rules (and is frankly pretty silly): 7. Keep your nose out of band members private lives 8. Do not knowingly post false information about the band Setlist is better than I was expecting, not sure what the fuss is about. The lack of guitar doesn't bother me anymore. Nobody listens to Starlight or Uprising for the phenomenal chord strumming, so if it gives us a better vocal performance then who cares? Really need a better video of Globalist, it sounded fucking immense. The stage also looked incredible though I'm slightly annoyed with myself for spoiling it.
