Lucy Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 I'm planning on buying myself a guitar because I wanna learn to play. Can any of you lot recommend a good one for a beginner. I wanna create muse like sounds and it's gotta be under £200. Have already found one but I'm not sure if it's good as I have no idea about guitars at all. Here's the one i found Thanx
In_Your_World Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 theres something wrong with my computer so i cant open new windows so i dont know what guitar youve seen but.... i would go for a yamaha pacifica 112. cost about £160-180 and they play amazingly well. u wont get a muse type sound with a £200 guitar i wouldnt think. his cost up to £6000 and are filled with effects and stuff. if u really want muse sounds then save up and buy a fuzz factory or a digitech whammy later on.
YellowSphere Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 don't get the one you found, its made by encore (shudders) get a yamaha pacifica 112, like In_Your_World suggested. It will create more muse-like sounds than most other things because matt started out with a pacifica. They also make a different model which i cant remember the name of which has humbuckers in bridge and neck, as opposed to just bridge. That might be the one to go for, someone at school has one and it does sound good compared to anything else for that cash. Go to the yamaha website and see what you see there. I think they make a pack with the cheapest pacifica's in. Also checkout soundslive. I think they sell em. Good luck finding a guitar.

YellowSphere Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 no idea why that came up twice, sorry about that
Lucy Posted April 19, 2004 Author Posted April 19, 2004 cool, thanx for recommending that. i'm swayed by looks tho . i also found this guitar on ebay and a cheap marshall amp. what do u think? I know it's an encore but it's so perty
YellowSphere Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 ebay is a great place to look, if you're a beginner you're not likely to mind about how a guitar plays as you're not going to be able to play it to find out. theres often sub-200 quid Ibanezes and Epiphones on there, be sure to keep an eye out for a bargain. BUT. NO. ENCORES! ebay is such good value you might as well try and get a guitar made by a reputable company...
dymund Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 sorry.. cant get away from the fact that its an encore, they really arent worth getting at all. Yamaha or maybe an epiphone les paul (looks the same) and plays a hell of a lot better. Not sure they make one in your price range though, my mate bought an sg special for £160 and it wasnt too bad.
YellowSphere Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 a proper epiphone theres a proper epiphone Les Paul for 200 quid, doesn't have an amp, but im sure that its worth stretching your budget to buy that guitar. Theres loads of decent Les Pauls, including a few epiphones for less than 150 aswell
ReinierK Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 Yamaha Pacifica is the way to go on a low budget Epiphone aint bad to learn on... But I think Yamaha actually has the better hardware in general...
YellowSphere Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 i'd probably have to agree with you, i mean, they make motorbikes, their guitars must rock!
Lucy Posted April 19, 2004 Author Posted April 19, 2004 well, i like the look of this one and the price ain't bad http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3717832294&category=2384
Lucy Posted April 19, 2004 Author Posted April 19, 2004 and this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3717922522&category=2384
YellowSphere Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 looks alright, buy what you like the look of, but not an encore. get a yamaha or an epiphone. I would recommend vintage, as mine is, but mine is one of the older ones, the ones that were good.
Lucy Posted April 19, 2004 Author Posted April 19, 2004 or this one. says it's a fender stratocaster then says encore http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3718694146&category=33039
YellowSphere Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 strats are fine, encores are not as we've already said. Get an epiphone or a yamaha, like i just said to, and stop sending us links, please?
Lucy Posted April 19, 2004 Author Posted April 19, 2004 and another one hehehe http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3718931016&category=33039
YellowSphere Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 i played a mexican strat recently...the pickups were horrible, you'd be much better of with the pacifica...seriously
Lucy Posted April 19, 2004 Author Posted April 19, 2004 ok soz, i will try and go for that epiphone then
YellowSphere Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 amp-wise, marshall MG series are great for their price. Laney, Fender, Crate and Behringer also make resonable amps (though behringers aren't well liked by most, i think that their kit does sound very good)
Lucy Posted April 19, 2004 Author Posted April 19, 2004 ok, well have found a marshall mg amp for around a tenner and a yamaha pacifica for for just over £90, only thing is it's missing a trem arm or whatever. I have NO idea where i'm gonna get one of those!
ReinierK Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 some local guitar shop will have a spare one prolly... And you don't need trem arm on those guitars anyway, you'll probably jank them out of tune anyway (hail to locking tuners!)
YellowSphere Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 one should come with the pacifica, if it doesn't then a normal strat style one should fit in it and these can be picked up for peanuts from a music shop
Lucy Posted April 19, 2004 Author Posted April 19, 2004 cool, that's a relief. will try and persuade mum to let me use her credit card and then pay her back hehhehehe
