Phill
ahh ok is it the same sort of style as manson's stuff then?
kev
john 5 is very good on the guitar indeed. but don't mess around with his stuff get bucketheads instead, you can hear a bucket influence in john 5's solo style but it won't ever be as good as the robot chicken man. its not really marilyn manson style at all. more hardcore shred weirdy sounds and bluegrass shred
Joakim
don't get the one you found, its made by encore (shudders) get a yamaha pacifica 112, like In_Your_World suggested. It will create more muse-like sounds than most other things because matt started out with a pacifica. They also make a different model which i cant remember the name of which has humbuckers in bridge and neck, as opposed to just bridge. That might be the one to go for, someone at school has one and it does sound good compared to anything else for that cash. Go to the yamaha website and see what you see there. I think they make a pack with the cheapest pacifica's in. Also checkout soundslive. I think they sell em. Good luck finding a guitar. You should purchase the "new" Pacifica 012, it has good reviews from different magazines, and a friend of mine tells me it's awesome, i'm getting it for christmas, yeah! fiona_j
I think this is the right place to put this. Basically, I've been playing around with guitars for a while but never owned my own, just borrowed my mates. I would like to buy one but I have no idea what kind of guitar would suit a beginner. I'm not interested in buying anything electrical until I know I can actually play. Any suggestions? fi x

fiona_j
I just seen that other thread about guitars. Doh! Are they all electric, cos I was thinking of starting off acoustic. fi x

fiona_j
Ahh, ok. I've never played on an electric. How much am I looking at? I have a birthday coming up, just wondering if I could get mummy and daddy to help, lol fi x
donbenjy
acoustic first DEFINATELY if you want to play properly, like get really good, acoustic is a VERY good place to start. firstly, its cheaper. secondly, electrics are ALOT harder to maintain...if you have a fault with an acouswtic, there arnt many options as to what it could be thridly, you get a BIG confidence boost when you progres to electric, as they're much faster to play etc. i wouldn't ever start a person on an electric, acoustics concentrate much harder on the actual playing involved, not effects etc. go for an acoustic or an electro-acoustic...only one thing, try to get one that allows access to all the frets...i.e. has a body cutaway under the fretboard so your hand goes all the way up edit: you live in leicester....well best place for acoustics is sheehans which is next to the station...otherwise checkout academy of sound which is by st georges retail park dont go to the one in the shires, its wayyy overpriced AND they denied me a job...without even replying to my aplication!!!! donbenjy
nononono that AOS i the one you mean i meant dont go 2 the other guitar shop in the shires shopping centre, thats called musicianshop.com but its quite small AOS is the best theres another one slightly out of town, a corner shop, called humbuckers...but thats quite smallish too, good range of axes tho
fiona_j
Right, I live in Loughborough so not far from Leicester. I've been looking on ebay and noticed this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3774547915 I'm not sure what you mean about access to all the frets. I'm sure I'll get the hang of this as soon as I start into it. If I cant buy anything on line, I'll take a wonder into Leicester next weekend and take a look at those shops. I want to learn properly so I guess some musci books are in order too. fi x
sog-fish
it's a super bad idea to buy off ebay for musical instruments... go to your nearest guitar shop, there'll probably be a specialist and guitars starting at about 50 quid, then if anything goes wrong you have a guarantee and aftercare and help etc, its just not worth it on the internet! Cheesy Grin
I started off with a Cheri Stratocaster (Fender Copy) and seeing as tis all i got I still play it. Its a really good guitar to learn on i reckon. Try get a neck with a big radius on it cause ots more comfortable and i think its what makes pacificas feel good, but you cant go wrong with a strat

pink_ego_box62
I bought me a pacifica 112 2 months ago. Got it in a sale, brand new for £100!! And its silver . Planned to spend £200 on amp and guitar so bought line 6 spider 2 practice for £100. Together they produce very muse sounds, (what i was aiming for naturally) . Multiple amp modes and effects help of course

donbenjy
Right, I live in Loughborough so not far from Leicester. I want to learn properly so I guess some musci books are in order too. fi x access to all the frets means that you can't slide your hand up on that guitar becauyse the body is in the way...you want a cutaway if you want to reach all the frets, which is important if you wanna play muse i think academy of sound (near st georges retail park) or sheans (next to train station) are the best shops, the one in the shires is abit poopy and overpriced (and didnt want to hire me!)
