Fewer recordings needed and more live performances

Oh yes, definitely. I think we're talking about slightly different things, but nevermind. -

True, but in that case it's mostly a collection of songs which they wrote in the 90s but didn't record at the time. But yeah they did write a lot more in the early 00s. And it's not like their quality control has gotten better. -

I've been thinking about this thing with the rate at which artists are releasing music, and it's interesting how things have changed. Muse put out 10-12 songs every 3 years, Radiohead even less. In fact, most popular rock bands these days seem to take about 2-4 years between albums. But if we go back a few decades, The Beatles released 12 albums in 7 years (much shorter albums ofc). Queen released 15 albums in 22 years, Depeche Mode released 7 albums in their first 9 years. In comparison, Muse have released 7 albums in 16 years. -

I'm just gonna move straight to the point and not dwell on minor things that you misunderstood, so: The conclusion then is that the sales for tours are down, just as they are for records, so no incentive there. And Matt is not in a healthy state to be touring for more gigs than he currently is, which was very clear during the last few shows. So what this basically comes down to: Shouldn't everyone get the opportunity to see Muse live without too much hassle? My opinion: Meh, not really. Muse tour more than enough, and if there is somewhere they haven't been, there's probably a reason for that. I'd prefer it if they focused on music, and honestly they are due a long break from touring. -

Smart. Ignore my post until AFTER you've replied to Fabri. I mean, you would look like a fool if you had to address his existing touring issues when shutting down Fabri's point. -

I don't understand, are you saying that they should tour more because they don't make any money making records anyway, or that touring more would raise the record sales? And Muse are neither young nor healthy enough for more touring. Matt needed like 6 vocal breaks at every gig, and sounded like he was well on his way to getting nodules. And why would you only see them every 6 years? Muse tour Europe constantly. In Britain you had loads of chances to see them in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016. I mean it even says in your sig that you've seen them 3 times in 3 years. -
Exactly my point! Ask for these songs while he can sing them, then when he's getting old and tired he can sit on a chair and moan out HCM.

HCM should be requested live when Matt has eventually just lost all of his highs.

The one and only optimistic Muse discussion thread (hopefully)
Hat replied to Claudia O's topic in Other Muse Topics
What, that "we're only 3, they're 5. Also they're older"? Was that the best he could come up with? But yeah Matt is influenced by Jeff Buckley, but Muse used to talk openly about being big Radiohead fans before the media picked up on it and started calling them ripoffs. Then they (the band) suddenly stopped mentioning them altogether. I do still love that video though. -
Yeah of course, just the "never" and "at all" which confused me. Now there's a sad sentence.

I'm confused, are you the same Clunge who claimed to love Remedy Lane and look forward to Scarsick back when it was about to be released? But yeah, Muse can really nail it, but then they just seem to want to release comedy songs as much as they want to release actual honest attempts? Like...why? There's a reason why I rarely listen to the albums anymore and instead have made playlists where I just group together the songs from 2006-2015 that fit as a whole. A Synth-rock album, an orchestral rock album, and then just a cheesy album of leftovers. Strangely enough Muse's approach to be all over the place for four albums in a row can be mixed into three consistent albums.

Fandango is actually a song that a lot of fans seem to think would sound better without the strange rhythm. Personally I didn't like it at all when I first heard it, but it has grown loads, especially the part I linked to where the rhythm changes and the melody really hits you. But I wouldn't say it's a reason to dislike the band since they only have a handful of songs like that. I mean their worst album, Scarsick, is probably one of their most straightforward ones.

Oh and one more - More experimenting with time signatures. Personally, my favourite moments of my other favourite artists like Tool and Pain of Salvation are usually stuff like this:

- Please Matt, don't try to tell a story. - Agreed on Drones mixing. - More piano and guitar combinations! You're basically a 4-piece band, make use of that! Give Morgan actual parts instead of just having him do backing synths. I want to hear Matt working with counter-melodies with two guitars. - More piano in general. Just no ballads. Copypasting Jobby: - Work a song around Monty Jam - Work Vuilstamen into a song Actually most of what I just said was already said by Jobby, but he got the ideas from my posts anyways so!

I was writing a loong reply but honestly, who hasn't gotten bored of my ranting about vocals at this point? So short answer: During TR we were mostly just calling Matt lazy, which was basically what it was.

Still so disappointed that they didn't add a riff ending to both Liquid State and Animals. Especially the latter because that buildup is perfect for a drop followed by a heavy riff. You can't end a song with a buildup.

Yeah he has said that he did that popstar voice because he recorded some vocals with his normal voice at first and thought it sounded dull. Hence, hero voice!

Still not sure why I don't like the studio songs as much as I like those first performances. Could be production, and it could also be that my opinion of the album as a whole has brought all the songs down with it. I just can't get on board with the genre-jumping and...meh, I honestly don't know.

Well TSP/Fury doesn't say that much imo. It's just personal opinion. And I think both Dom and Chris enjoyed TSP a lot more live, and so do I. It's just that...I don't think they have any limitations to what can be a part of their sound anymore.

Honestly I don't think we can trust Chris and Dom to veto songs anymore. I mean, back in 2006 they considered Soaked too cheesy and unlike their sound, but since then they've released Explorers, Madness, Guiding Light, the ending to The Globalist...I just think that they've stopped reacting to cheese.
