Not sure about a few months ago but iirc the festival gigs in 2015 had more songs than they played in the following arena tour. Might be wrong though. Cba to check set lists on my phone.

I have to admit there were more cases that I thought, but yeah, nothing out of the ordinary really.

I'm not very good at telling time signatures but seems like 4/4 to me. He was counting 22 measures in the chorus in the making of thing.

Muse just have a lot of showoff talent.Perfect example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbRjh8KiVXE EDIT: Anyway, yeah simple music is not an issue. It just feels like Muse are running out of ideas, so why not go outside the box that they seem to have gotten stuck in. Experiment with more than just genres.

no I mean it. I said there were a few exceptions (like Animals, Micro Cus and Supremacy) but those were quite standard, despite not being in 4/4. But let's not take this further, I don't want to support the notion that more complex=better.

Still disappointed that Muse didn't do something crazy for Drones, right before the protagonist turned the whole thing around. The album (and I) needed a truly dark, twisted moment. But Muse haven't been that kind of band for like 15 years.

I preferred it in D tbh. I just wish it wasn't longer than 3 minutes. 3 and a half at most.

I think it's with that in mind that the person is asking if they've done the whole song like that.

They have not. That wouldn't work anyway since it's a different tuning.

I don't think the answer is as simple as that. Their output isn't generally that difficult, and whenever Matt is faced with something a bit odd tempo wise, he seems to drop it completely (MK Ultra for example). I was surprised that he actually seemed to work to get the part in The Handler right, but that took him a while. And what, Exogenesis was very well recieved, both among fans and critics. But Matt HAS said that he often avoids doing anything truly difficult on the guitar so he won't have to work that much live, but then after that he has released songs which he described as him actually "trying", so maybe that's what we've seen in tracks like Animals and Reapers.

Been listening to a lot of Tool lately, and imagining what Muse would sound like if they actually experimented with different time signatures (the handful of times that they've done anything other than 4/4 so far has been pretty standard stuff). Do you guys think Muse actually has the skill to pull off anything truly difficult?

I totally get you. Muse either have no idea where the line is, or they simply don't care. I mean tit's their music, if they want to be a comedy band that's fine, but it's so sad to see them ruin something that I know I would have loved.- 8,036 replies

I don't think anyone is serious and I don't think the lyrics would be the biggest issue.

Or he can wait until Muse say "done!". Then he comes in, tells them what's good and what to throw away. Then the process starts over and Muse just keep what Thom allows until they have an album.

Then there's this http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/muse/the_resistance/ http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/muse/drones/ The arrogance needed to claim something as "universally" true just because that's what you've experienced...I mean damn.
