Fourth festival gig in Spain is scheduled to take place in Vigo, Galicia on 8 September 2022 as part of the Xacobeo Festival and the fourth different city (Madrid, Mallorca and Malaga) in Spain which will host concerts by MUSE this year. Germany and France follow with three different cities each hosting festival gigs by the band.

Venue:  Estadio de Balaídos (25,000-30,000 capacity) - Celta Vigo football club home ground

Local authorities debated whether the concert should take place in Vigo or A Coruña.  MUSE have previously given two Xacobeo concerts in Galicia in NW Spain at Santiago de Compostela in 2010 and 2004.

MUSE are the only British rock band to have songs reach No. 1 on both the Alternative/Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock Airplay charts in America.  English solo artists Sting and Peter Gabriel achieved this feat in the early 90's.

British bands The Rolling Stones and Def Leppard have each had five No. 1 songs at Mainstream Rock followed by Royal Blood at four, while MUSE have had five songs reach the summit at Alternative with Coldplay following with four chart-topping tracks.

MUSE (Will Of The People) and Madonna (Finally Enough Love) are both scheduled to release new albums on Warner Records on 26 August and 19 August 2022, respectively.  This is likely to be the first time these two artists will concurrently occupy top-tier positions on album charts around the world. As you know, MUSE signed to Maverick Records in America in December 1998.

"Ambition - whenever I hear the word, in my head, all I can think of is Madonna, for some reason. Very ambitious person and a great artist, certainly explores many avenues to get her name out there. I think she’s a very special lady." - Matt Bellamy

Note: My first overseas concert at the O2 arena in London was a Madonna gig in July 2009 and my last concert at the same venue was MUSE in October 2012.  I was also fortunate to see the band perform at London Stadium in June 2019 but a medical issue prevented me from attending one of their shows at the Stade de France the following month.

'The Gallery' recently made its live performance debut during the Eventim Apollo charity gigs in Hammersmith, London earlier this month.

On 8 June 2015 this track along with ten other MUSE songs (including Hoodoo, Ruled by Secrecy, and Panic Station) were featured in the ballet The System choreographed by Anastasia Engasheva which had its public premiere at ZIL Cultural Center in Moscow, Russia.

29 minutes ago, Claudia O said:

So the venue in Vigo is bigger I hope 😜

The stadium in Vigo is undergoing renovation and it is also at the start of La Liga so there was controversy on where to hold the concert.  Imagine Dragons are performing in Compostela in July I believe as part of the same festival.

Incidentally, the last rock band to play a gig at this venue was the Rolling Stones in 1998.  Madonna and Dire Straits are two of the other artists who have had concerts there in the early 90's.

Compliance could enter the Top 40 at Alternative radio in America in the next couple of weeks.  Modern rock stations have begun to add the 2nd single from WOTP to their playlists.  WSD will soon depart the airplay charts at Rock and Alternative after spending 20 weeks on these two tallies.  Compliance may not receive airplay at Mainstream Rock so a third heavier track might be promoted to that format in the coming weeks.

Uprising along with several other Alternative hit songs have been sale-priced at iTunes in America this past week.  As a result,  Uprising has ranked among the Top 100 downloaded songs on that platform during the past ten days, peaking as high as #55.

Hysteria has just been certified Gold in the UK by BPI.  Update:  MUSE now have 2 Platinum singles; 6 Gold singles; and 2 Silver singles in their homeland.

Longest gaps between MUSE gigs in the USA:

4 years - April 2000 (Tradewinds/Sea Bright, NJ) to April 2004 (Cotton Club/Atlanta, GA)

3.5 years - April 2019 (United Center/Chicago, IL) to October 2022 (Jim Beam/Clermont, KY and Aftershock Festival/Sacramento, CA)

Will MUSE schedule arena dates in Fall 2022 or Winter 2023?  Venue availability limited due to NBA basketball and NHL hockey in many cities and so many high-profile artists touring after the pandemic in 2022 and 2023

MUSE and Blondie

Both artists will be dropping albums on 26 August this year with Blondie releasing an archival box set entitled Against The Odds 1974-1982 in several configurations.

Both artists have played gigs at the Hammersmith Apollo venue in London:  MUSE two charity shows in May 2022 and Blondie a total of 13 career shows from 1977 to 2007 with a memorable 7 night run in January 1980.

Blondie's first single Denis peaked at #2 on the UK Singles Chart in March 1978.  Heart of Glass topped the pop charts in both the UK and America in 1979.

Blondie played a sample of Uprising during Call Me at two shows in the UK, including their concert at the Isle of Wight festival in June 2010.

Blondie’s Debbie Harry admits that she wishes she had written a MUSE song. Harry made the admission as part of NME’s ‘Soundtrack Of My Life’ series in 2017. When she and guitarist Chris Stein were asked which song by another artist they wished they’d written. “Something from MUSE I guess,” Harry told NME. “They have a marvelous sound that’s so distinctive, and beautiful songs.”

MUSE and Kate Bush

Chart positions on the latest Alternative Airplay (Billboard) chart in America:

#24(+4) Compliance - MUSE

#26(Debut) Running Up That Hill - Kate Bush (Ascending to #4 on the Hot 100 (Billboard) singles chart this week after peaking at #30 in America in 1985). It reached #1 in Australia last week and is trending to hit #1 on next weeks Official UK Singles chart replacing As It Was by Harry Styles.

Peak chart positions on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 singles chart (Billboard) for first singles released in America by these notable UK acts:

#101 Starlight (March 2007) MUSE  - The third best performing song on the pop singles chart for the band after Madness and Uprising which spent 29 and 20 weeks on the Hot 100 chart respectively.

#108 Wuthering Heights (April 1978)  Kate Bush - The track reached No. 1 in the UK in March 1977 blocking Denis by Blondie from reaching the summit.  I first heard it as an exchange student in Germany that year and was favourably impressed.

#116 From Me To You (August 1963)  The Beatles  - The track peaked at #41 the following year after Beatlemania hit America.

#118 Hysteria (February 2005) MUSE - This track and Time Is Running Out both peaked earlier at #9 on the Alternative Airplay chart in America.

Kate Bush had an amazing 22-night residency at the Hammersmith Apollo venue in London in August-September 2014.

"MUSE are bidding to become the first act to reach the Official UK Albums Chart with an album delivered as an NFT..."

"British rock band Muse’s upcoming new album [Will Of The People] will be released as a limited-edition NFT on the Polygon-powered platform Serenade."

"When compared to other leading blockchains like Ethereum, Polygon’s carbon footprint is 44,000 times smaller,” reads Serenade’s About page. They say it’s 1/10 of a tweet – and “You would have to mint 197,000 Serenade NFTs to equal the carbon footprint of a single 12” vinyl."

Will Of The People -  First Week Official  Album Chart Projections*

#1 UK  (Top 100, Album Sales, Vinyl Albums, Album Downloads) - Likely to become the band's seventh consecutive studio album to top the album chart in their homeland

#1 France (Top Albums, Top Albums Physiques) - Albums from legendary Johnny Hallyday and popular rapper Soprano blocked Simulation Theory from the top back in November 2018

#1 USA (Vinyl Albums) - Drones and Simulation Theory both peaked at #2 on this tally behind re-issued classic albums from the Rolling Stones and The Beatles, respectively, while Origin of Symmetry (XX Anniversary RemiXX) debuted on this same survey at #3 in 2021

Top 5 USA (Album Sales) - WOTP  has a chance to top this chart depending on how much other recently released albums in August decline in sales from their debut weeks and barring any 'surprise' releases from A-list artists or K-pop groups

Top 10 USA (Billboard 200) - DJ Khaled will probably have the top debut album due to streaming followed possibly by WOTP,  the new box set compilation from Blondie, new albums from blackbear, JID and Dirty Heads, and the expanded version of Bastille's latest album.  Older releases from Bad Bunny, Morgan Wallen, and Harry Styles and more recent August releases from Beyoncé, Madonna, Panic! At The Disco, Oasis, and Eminem are likely to continue to occupy top tier album positions on this tally for the tracking week ending 1 September 2022.

WOTP could also debut at No. 1 in nearly 20 global markets similar to what Drones did back in 2015 and The Resistance in 2009 and sell around 200,000 copies world-wide in its first week of release.

Albums by MUSE that have achieved Platinum certification for sales of over 10K copies in Russia:  Absolution, The Resistance and Drones

*Based on pre-orders and sales history for past albums.  Estimates subject to change closer to release date.

Top Touring Headliner Artists of the Pollstar Era (July 1980-July 2022)

MUSE Rankings

#15 Boxoffice Grosses - British Act

#51 Boxoffice Grosses - Over $400 million*

#78 Tickets Sold - Over 6 million

*Some shows were likely unreported and does not include career festival headliner performance fees of $50 million-plus nor fees earned as support for other artists such as U2 at stadums or arenas and clubs during their career.  MUSE should generate another $50-$75 million at the conclusion of their upcoming 2023 WOTP World Tour depending on types of venues (arenas and/or stadia) and number of scheduled dates and therefore should move up in the rankings along with Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, and RHCP who will all increase career concert earnings from their 2022 massive world-wide tours.
