I was going to say the same thing. Matt sings' date=' plays guitar, plays piano, [b']writes all the songs[/b]. Chris plays bass. Who's more talented? It's not just about opinion, it's fact :phu:

Unless you think that his bass playing beats Matt's piano-playing, guitar-playing, singing and song-writing ;)

I never said that you called any of them more talented than Matt ;)

Okay, my opinion is, that if you say that Dom or Chris is more talented than Matt, you don't know anything about music. Better? :awesome:

What do you even base such an opinion on? Neither Dom or Chris has written any songs. They have written some catchy and good parts for their instruments, and Chris can sing backing vocals.

Matt is considered one of the best guitarists today, and even if you don't agree(I don't), he has still written all of Muses songs(eventually with input from Dom and Chris, yes), and all the riffs, and some of the bass riffs, are his, and many of them very original. He's also a very good pianist and a really good vocalist.

I largely agree. Let's just say the other two are talented in a different way. Chris can sing, play guiatr, bass and drums. That's more than being multi-skilled, it's talent. And I'm sure he's written a lot of the Muse bass lines to songs. Dom's a very creative drummer and works drum patterns and beats into songs that Matt's written perfectly. Again, talent.

Matt, however, is the all-rounder cos he can do all the things you mentioned - sing, play piano and guitar brilliantly and create original and inspiring riffs/songs, plus he's got the creative integrity to write lots of songs and even scores for symphonic pieces (The International/Exogenesis). So, to me, he's the best of a very good bunch. :) /end ongoing rant

I'm gonna update mine, cos some stuff has changed.

TBH, playing guitar, bass and drums isn't really a proof of talent. Anyone can play guitar, creating music on the instrument and actually being a good guitarist takes talent. I'm not saying Chris can't write songs, I'm saying that he hasn't shown it.

Any instrument can be played without talent. Creating interesting and good music with them is a whole different thing. Chris is a good bassist, but that's it, sorry.

True enough, but I think Chris has proven that he's good at playing the instruments mentioned. Yes, I agree that he hasn't shown any song-writing skills, cos that's always been Matt's field, and I don't see it changing any time soon. Again, that's why Matt seems most talented, cos he's had the opportunity to showcase more talent than the other two.

Btw hyper_chondriac_muser, I'm guessing you're gonna count all this later. Are you going to count votes for Dead Star and In Your World as best B-Sides? :p

Lol, I was considering counting 'em all if there's not a ridiculous amount of votes (and if I can be bothered). And, no, DS/IYW don't count as b-sides... They were double A-sides on a single, so it doesn't count to me :p.

Yeah, I'm not saying that Chris doesn't have talent, just that he hasn't really shown any real talents making him worthy of "most talented member of Muse". But tbh, I doubt that he is.

It would be cool if Dead Star won both best single and best b-side :awesome:

He's shown he can play guitar in live footage - some early performances he's played guitar and a few acoustic performances he switches to guitar. He played drums with Hey Molly not so long ago, and there was video footage of it (can't remember where) - proving he's good at both. It doesn't mean he's some amazing-whizz guitarist/drummer, too, but he's more than competent in both. But yeah, neither makes him more talented than Matt. The main reason Bellamy has the edge is cos of songwriting, guitar wizardry and piano skillz... he outperforms both because of that.

I'll make sure Dead Star doesn't win the b-side award! :p

Like I said, I know that he can play both instruments, the question was, where does he show any TALENT in it? He is a mediocre guitar and drum player.

Which is why I went on to say that Bellamy is the talent king as he outperforms due to his sheer skill on piano And guitar... AND songwriting. If he was just an amazing guitarist we wouldn't be having this conversation because they'd all be equally-matched in that they all excel at one instrument. But Bellamy's skills are threefold (or more) lol. I promised myself I wouldn't get sucked into a debate about this, but it just keeps going . I'm officially stopping.

I was just going to point out that you'd missed out his vocal skillz. I think that's one of his main talents actually.

I know!:facepalm: Maybe cos it's such a given and obvious talent he has that I just left it out completely, lol. His voice definitely got infinitely better over the years... in the early years it was almost whiny at times (:ninja:), but it developed so drastically... now he sings any song with effortless brilliance on stage.

On a separate (on-topic) note - have you done this awards thing yet? I'm just curious (or some would say nosey :p) to know what people would put as their 'bests' :).

Well, that's part of the talent, In his early years he didn't do proper voice exercises and working on his technique, which makes it more of a talent than just something he has learnt(Like learning to play an instrument).

I used to slag off his new voice because he has lost much of the falsetto, but now I think that BH&R has his best vocal work.

Falsetto's one of his biggest (and most obvious) vocal talents. To carry notes of that pitch/level is mad... especially when he translates it to a live show. Some of the Bliss falsettos he's done over the years are insane! One of my favourite live falsettos generally has to be Showbiz from Hullabaloo... I was left  after I heard it.

I still think he's able to sustain a really impressive note to this day (Take A Bow's brilliant ending, Overture, the backing/layered vocals to Uprising etc.) even live, but it's not as strong as before, naturally.

I think his voice was stunning on Showbiz and has only got better over time. Seriously, I've never heard a singer whose voice I enjoy listening to more than Matt's.

I'm out at the moment but I'll work on my awards nominations when I get home (probably after too many glasses of wine)
