_Ed_
So, no charges for Darren Hughes. Just a ruined political career, then.
JoBear
Well, the thing is the charges have only been dropped. Who knows what actually happened.
_Ed_
That's true. It just seems a little unfair that his name has been so badly dragged through the dirt in the media, especially compared to the "comedian" and the "entertainer".
_Ed_
Hilarious mistake by my workmate today. The rugby commentator said, "Oh, they've coughed it up." She heard it as, "Oh, they've cocked it up." So that's what we sent out. Â Oh how we laughed.
JoBear
Â I found NZ Next Top Model online and am watching it...oh dear.
JoBear
Mr Key said any changes to gambling laws would be subject to a full public submission process. The Government was concerned about the proliferation of pokie machines and the targeting of low socio-economic groups. "That's not the case when you look at a casino in the heart of the centre of the city which is actually trying to substantially increase its international tourist numbers," Mr Key said. "They are very heavily targeting the Asian market, so it is a different clientele." This is such bullshit from John Key. Why is SkyCity surrounded by loanshark businesses? It's not because of Chinese tourists gambling for fucks sake. This government is so ridiculously short sighted.
_Ed_
Yeah, absolutely agree. And the weird thing is a huge events centre is just about to open on the Viaduct. So another new events centre isn't something we really desperately need - I'd suggest we almost have more events centres in Auckland than events. Top Model? Really, Jo? _Ed_
So gutted for the people of Christchurch again. Can't imagine what it's like for them. It must be torture. But it's a relief that no one was seriously injured or killed today.
Marinator
It must be torture Explain how it is torture?
_Ed_
Maybe not a great choice of words, but it's prolonged agony with still no end in sight. Constantly being on edge and unsure when the next one might be, and how big it'll be. And having to repeatedly start some of the repairing and rebuilding all over again. Absolutely awful. JoBear
Well many friends have described it like torture so I don't have a problem with the phrasing! It's hard waking to this news yet again. Few people I know left since Feb but others are trying their best to find some normality in it all.
Marinator
Absolutely awful. That's what I would say
darkshineskitty
Surprised there wasn't more news about the armed offender wandering around Blockhouse Bay yesterday. Went past and the schools and shops were locked down, and armed police were blocking off the roads.
_Ed_
Yeah that sounded dramatic! And there was only a 10-second story about it casually slipped in well down the news. But I guess there were quite a few big stories around yesterday - Christchurch, the ash cloud, the King's College guy, Syria... Oh, and Weinergate. _Ed_
I thought I'd be safe from my least favourite cricket commentator at work today. But then I had to work on a programme called Britain's Best Dish. Imagine my surprise when I saw who the host was. It's him! MARK FUCKING NICHOLAS. There he was, smiling smugly, face more shiny than the fancy silver appliances the contestants cook with, grasping for superlatives to describe the drama taking place in the kitchens (of which there was little to none). Michelle
Ahipara up north is awesome. They have numerous streets named after birds, had fun driving around them.
JoBear
My childhood home was on Weka St. We were beside Kakapo St and my Nana lived on Moa St beside that. My aunty now lives on Huia St too. Kereru St connected them all except Huia which was seperated by a domain.
Michelle
That's cool. I'm becoming more and more fascinated with looking at street names, I come across some interesting ones.

_Ed_
Had my first beer in over a month this evening. I was a bit worried about it, thinking that maybe I'd associate it with all the nastiness I've been through in the last month or so. But no! Such a relief that it tasted good. All is forgiven. Then it was quite an entertaining bus trip home - some drunk girl started talking to me and was quite hilarious/nonsensical. But then I got extremely wet. Stupid rain. JoBear
I'm sure that was more than a well deserved beer. What was it? I'm so busy this week and will be even more next week. I'm mich looking gorward to cracking open a Brooklyn Brewery beer when I finally get home. I did book my Milan trip though. Travelling for work for the first time ever. Also been at my job for a year tomorrow...not sure where the last four months went.
_Ed_
It was a humble Speight's. Nothing special, but could do worse. And I must say I enjoyed it. Awesome that you've sorted out the Milan trip! Hope you end up having some free time to look around.
