If you run Skrillex's' "Scary Monsters..." 'bass drop' at the same time as the whammy spam at the end of the 2nd Law trailer they are very similar. Because Skrillex makes a warped form of hard electro, which is something Matt referred to as being an influence or at least something he was 'in to' a while ago, its easy to make the connection.

Being incredibly cynical, I remember the whole "going back to our roots" interview.

If you consider their 'root' was...making music very similar Radiohead, whose style was popular and distinctive at the time, maybe "going back to" those roots is...making music very similar to Skrillex, whose style is very popular and distinctive at the moment.

Strategic avoidance of the word copying is nessecary.

I'm passive about Muse's embracing of hard electro, it still sounds like organic Muse, doesn't it?

Its a shame everyone has gone so mad over the second part of the album trailer, when the first part has a very nice piece of orchestra in it.

This.

Well as it has been already said Tom Morello tried to copy some sounds from djs and stuff and his solos are really good. Matt is doing something similar and he will incorporate that "dubstep" sound into a song. But I think its too early to judge. Its just like when smbh and tiro came out. Its something different but like the big majority of the newer songs they take some time to get used to.

You know when they say don't go into a movie with high hopes because you will be disappointed? Or sometimes you pick a movie having little to expect only to find out it was awesome? Maybe that was their intention for this trailer to make people have mixed feelings, feel less excited, then the album comes out and everyone's mind is blown. :p
