Album Eight: Simulation Theory
MartianSpaghettiRider replied to Claudia O's topic in Songs & Releases
I have lived with darkness for all my life I've been deceived You'd be afraid if you could feel my pain And if you could see the things I am able to see Break me out Break me out Let me see Break me out Break me out Set me free I hail from darkness for all my life I've been deceived You'd be scared, living with my despair And if you could feel the things I am able to feel Break me out Break me out Let me see Break me out Break me out Set me free Save me from the dark side Break me out Break me out Set me free ----------- Yes, Sirs. Those you're reading are the real lyrics of The Dark Side. (Wow, Matt, who the fuck hurt you?).- 5,585 replies

Best Muse song for Karaoke?
MartianSpaghettiRider replied to New Born Lee's topic in Songs & Releases
Once I sang Hysteria in a pub at night. It went quite good, I'd say, because people were clapping. -

I thought the same, hehe. Good trolling, though; the little story behind that it's also pretty hilarious, too. And yeah, I'm sure we're gonna get another small teaser before midnight at least. I positively think it's not. Titles like Get Up And Fight, Brake It To Me and Propaganda smell too much of fake to me. The Void would be a pretty badass title, though.- 5,585 replies

The funniest thing of this all is that many fans on r/Muse are absolutely sure these are the real lyrics because of that lyrics site. The only that might turn out to be true (but again, I'm aware it's also wishful thinking from my part) is that TDS may indeed drop in the next couple of days. Tomorrow is Thursday after all, and we know singles are officially released on Thursdays (although TDS isn't technically an official single).- 5,585 replies

Holy fuck... that solo already sounds amazing to me. Not because of the solo per se, but because of the pauses between one melodical line and the other. I envision a sort of creepy synth-proggish landscape surrounding them, maybe with a big sweep-filtered bass by Chris.- 5,585 replies

...aaand I'm starting to come around this song, too. I knew it would happen sooner or later, but part of me doesn't want it to. I listened to it again and now I appreciate the sound layers they've morphed the soundscape with more, coupled with the good songwriting. Also, as many have said, it's catchy.

That's the thing: BHAR overall sound is more "spacey" than prog, and while it has some elements that could remind of prog, it doesn't have that many prog influences. KoC, instead, is indeed influenced by prog-like or filmic compositions and acts, like Rush's 2112.- 5,585 replies

Album Eight: Simulation Theory
MartianSpaghettiRider replied to Claudia O's topic in Songs & Releases
Because of some sound choices, yeah, but what about structures? BHAR features some of the most structurally conventional or repetitive songs in Muse catalogue, and Starlight, SMBH, MOTP, Invincible, Assassin, Exo-Politics, CoD definitively falls into those families. Starlight basically repeats itself after the first "Our hopes and expectations..." section with exception of another chorus before it, and has no solo; SMBH it's basically a classic verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-solo-chorus; MOTP repeats its parts exactly in the same sequence with the exception of a double final chorus; Invincible is almost the same as SMBH; Assassin (in its official album version) is the most repetitive of all of them (intro-verse-chorus, rinse and repeat); if Exo-Politics hadn't a solo it would be basically the same as MOTP; For CoD, cue in the same as SMBH. Talking about unconventional and proggish structures, the Muse albums who features them the most are Showbiz, OOS and... The Resistance. Heck, The Resistance is perhaps the album with the largest amount of unconventional song structures in proportion to its total amount of tracks, and the nearest to old style prog rock regarding influences in sound.- 5,585 replies

BHAR isn't exactly prog, either, apart from Hoodoo, KoC and TaB, and has a lot of accessible songs.- 5,585 replies

Maybe not totally. If I recall correctly, he said they would just try to veer off a bit from that kind of songs, but without dismissing them entirely.

Repetitiveness has always existed in pop music, to be honest. But also r'n'r, blues, and folkloristic music.
-
Same. Looking forward to it.

A sort of BHAR 2? Uhm, yeah, I may see where you're coming from. It certainly continues some of the "sound explorations" made on that album and take them to the extremes. Mainly in terms of cheese, but I think it's very good cheese after all.- 5,585 replies

It seems it's going to be an everchanging riff-fest. No, I'm not joking, it's aprox. along the lines of what Matt said in one of the lastest interviews. Someone could help us retrieve it?

* Gulps and begins to sweat profusely * ... Oh, fuck me. Who cares if I'm not feeling one miserable song? This is hyping me too much, it's like reading a description of a sort of BHAR n.2. Maybe even better.- 5,585 replies

Well, he said it's going to have a "classic Muse" sound, so I'm bound to believe it won't be really similar to what they've released so far for LP8, apart maybe TC, but you never know with them... That said, another personal song, huh? I like that Matt seems more inclined to write songs about what he actually feels, instead of political paranoia and alien conspiracies.

While I don't really connect with SH, I really think they do things like this because they indeed enjoy them and don't give quite a fuck of what others think. They have time, money, and the rest. Of course, that might be a problem if they decide to produce and arrange a song that could've potentially been one of the greatest ones in their carrier in a way that kinda ruins it (at least to me) But I also agree so much about them risking to rehash elements of their past music in a not-so-authentic way, although I consider TC a very good song in its own genre. That's why a bit wary about their next single, which will be another attempt of theirs to go back to their "classic" sound. EDIT: Also, I've listened to SH again a couple of times, and I seriously felt like I was listening to a The Rasmus song taken from Dark Matters.

Whoa, slow the horses down, you too. Let's not stigmatize people in their wholeness just because of what they like to listen to. I say this because there are a lot of mainstream artists that, yes, they have huuuge followings but actually have an incredible lot of "sane" fans. One example can be taken from Beyoncé: once, in my FB homepage, I strangely got a notification from an Italian fan page, and curious as I am I decided to get look at it. I was taken aback: there were a lot of people that actually criticised her work in a constructive way and seemed to know a good bunch of things about music. That personally teached me a lot. 41 million is still quite a fuckton of views in the great scale of things. That's a number comparable to the amount of inhabitants of a nation like Spain. Also, if you want to brag about Radiohead being the best band since The Beatles just to feel as a better musical listener than us, just cut it out.

Are you basically insulting yourself through them?

I'll admit, though: that kind of eerie synth solo during the bridge sounds very melancholic and uplifting at the same time.
