Iiiiiii - Can handle the truuuth - I am red fur what herb you're old and buuuck - No need to shoo that cooaat - Jest... BREAKING TIMMY BREAKING TIMMY BREAKING TIM-, BREAKING TIMMY Happy 2019, everyone. EDIT: By the way, my favourite track on ST might be The Void atm. BITM, TDS, Pressure and Algorithm are other serious contenders, though. I'd add Propaganda, but it's a bit too short, although its sound is slick as heck.

Album Eight: Simulation Theory
MartianSpaghettiRider replied to Claudia O's topic in Songs & Releases
The breaks came naturally for me after a couple of days of intense non-stop listening. I felt the urge of listening to other artists and music genres and I've even discovered a lot of good shit (past and present alike). After "enriching" myself this way, I listened to ST again, and I loved it even more than ever (minus GUAF) to the point I almost couldn't believe it. I've never felt this way with Drones.- 5,585 replies

In the studio version he sings right that, though. EDIT: No, wait... I've listened to the studio version just now, and I'm starting to get confused about what Matt really sings at the end of each chorus. It sounds like "Is that so easily?"... or is it "It's not so easy on me", or similar?

They really should give it a go about bringing Easily back. It fits the sound of ST suprisingly well.

I think you're projecting a little too much.

C'mon, TDS is probably one the best "Musest" songs made by them in recent times. It has melodies and progressions that hark back to their Showbiz/OOS days without sounding like a tired rehash or shameless fan-service, but giving a new twist to their traditional sound. Which isn't quite the case with Blockades, IMO. It's a good song that tries to follow the aforementioned philosophy of TDS, but to me it ends up being a bit "by-the-numbers", like a Muse song that tries too hard to be such.

I personally extend it to SH, which I am a sucker for, now. Also, I really think TC would have benefitted from being positioned right between TDS and Pressure. ATM to listen to the album in this way: Algorithm TDS Thought Contagion Pressure Propaganda BITM SH Blockades The Void Dig Down (Yes, no GUAF. I can't really digest it)

I'd say it's rated higher from those who absolutely love BHAR, since it's sonically quite closer to that album in terms of experimentation. The Dark Side? The Void? Pressure?

Album Eight: Simulation Theory
MartianSpaghettiRider replied to Claudia O's topic in Songs & Releases
After a month, I decided that if it wasn't for GUAF and TC (and Blockades, which I find good overall, but still a "Muse-by-number" track), I'd give this album a full 9/9,5, instead it's just a sort of 8. It's better than the last three albums mainly because there are a lot of great songs that neatly balance those two (three) ones out. Agree, Reapers is better for me.- 5,585 replies

Me too, without the on-and-off (I love BHAR).

I was recently listening to Depeche Mode's album Ultra (1997) and a good part of its sound has reminded me of Propaganda, even though it's much more brooding and bleaker. Needless to say it made me love this song even more.

I'd say their "proggiest" album to date is TR, instead. I hear a lot of Pink Floyd-ish and 80s prog sounds in there, and there's also that monster called Exogenesis Symphony. -

Oh, shit, you're right, I forgot about them! Yes, they're still relevant after all, and they've gone a bit softer than before. But not too much, mind that: they still rock. Like Clockwork (2013) and Villains (2017) are two really good albums. -

MartianSpaghettiRider replied to manxmuser's topic in Songs & Releases
If we're talking about mantained popularity, then I agree about considering them still contemporary as of now, but what about their beginnings? Metallica have more than 30 years on their backs now, FF 20 and counting, too, just like Muse. Thus, beside them, I'm afraid there are none among the ones that emerged in 2000s. That's their beauty to us, in fact. They're quite melodical and poppy at heart, but you can't really classify them in a single genre beside an umbrella-term like alt-rock, or pop rock. -
Muse Parody - "Orwellian Rebellion"
MartianSpaghettiRider replied to CoolFunkMan's topic in Other Muse Topics
This is majestic! The way they lampooned conspirational lyrics and Matt's hero vocals and sharp inhaling is hilarious, but I'd say the music sound even... too nice to be a parody, you know? I mean, it really sounds like something Muse could pull off. -
This whole comment should be framed and hanged in the living room for everyone to admire. In all seriousness, though, I agree with everything, but obviously a good dose of healthy criticism never hurts.

Whoa, calm down, man. What was so triggering about his comment? He just said he felt like you got the two tracks confused, with no intent of insulting you.- 100 replies

I'm not ashamed to admit I like the overall sound of the song Lovestones, and the fact it changes atmosphere right after the last proper chorus.

Album Eight: Simulation Theory
MartianSpaghettiRider replied to Claudia O's topic in Songs & Releases
That line, as I already commented around the time of release, actually irked me. I bet they weren't even trying (the irony!) of making up a serious arguement; to me it feels like a statement brimming with biased grudge and resentment because the band didn't take the direction they personally wanted. Which quite undermines the seriousness of their review.- 5,585 replies

Uhm, I don't really think they've ever been forced to "become mainstream", beside themselves. By reading, listening and watching their interviews throughout their carrier I really feel this current "poppish" phase it's always been their own doing at 99.9%, which makes them more accountable for eventual duds. Or, more specifically, Matt's and Dom's at least. -
I'm sorry.
