  1. Totally true. I’m just conscious of factors like the band not really talking about it much (as opposed to TH being a fave back then), it getting less of a mainstream spread, being slightly more awkward to play and whether or not the crowd reactions will warrant it being regular.
  2. I’m not getting too optimistic yet. There’s a chance it’s just one they’ve got gig-ready early ‘cos they wanted a debut or two for RAH and saw this was a clear fan favourite, and it’ll fade out when others are ready. Would love that to not be the case though obvs.
  3. Yeah that’s the best way to describe it
  4. Christ it’s times like this I almost wish I was smaller so I didn’t stand out on these things, or at least didn’t enjoy songs like a mug But yeah, mega tune was hoping Matt’s voice would be as mad/processed on the ‘reborn’ bits as they were on record but whatevs

  7. Yeah but...that’s the case everywhere? Most gigs getting one or two, odd standout getting three. I don’t really see what’s wrong with that. Surely it’s moving the goalposts a bit too much to say “they never play rarities/old fan faves at US arenas” and then “well yeah but only one or two at most gigs” like it’s not enough. And the T2L tour isn’t the Drones tour though. Bliss was pretty regular on the Black Holes tour but it became more of a rarity on TR, it just happens with time. Things change w/ every tour and Stockholm slipped into that category with Drones, I mean it was played as much as AP. go awayyyyy This is this first time I learned how much RBS was played over there on TR and, as it’s my longest running ‘want’ that’s always escaped me, am fumin’
  8. Here’s a more condensed version I had in my head, just counting what I’d call ‘old fan favourites (that aren’t staples)’ over the last 3 album tours and looking purely at arenas and amphitheatres, no festivals: The Resistance (2010-2011) Songs counted: Ruled By Secrecy (7), Bliss (1), Citizen Erased (1), Butterflies & Hurricanes (1) Total gigs: 34 Gigs where song(s) were played: 9 (26%) The 2nd Law (2013) Songs counted: Bliss (3), Sunburn (13), Map Of The Problematique (15), Dead Star (1), Agitated (4), Fury (1) Total gigs: 36 Gigs where song(s) were played: 27 (75%) Drones (2015-2017) Songs counted: Bliss (4), Citizen Erased (3), Apocalypse Please (8), Map Of The Problematique (9), Stockholm Syndrome (8), Butterflies & Hurricanes (3) Total gigs: 31 Gigs where song(s) were played: 23 (74%) They really don’t do that bad over there - in this specific aspect at least
  9. Muse don’t have a policy on it but they’ve joined up with Twickets which forces people to only sell them on for face value. Most people’s problem with Viagogo is how high touts charge on there tmk.
  10. Linking to the discussion on the RAH thread about where that ranked, here’s how I’d list my gigs: —- (All-timers) Shepherd’s Bush Leeds ‘11 —- (Special) Manchester Academy London O2 14th Royal Albert Hall —- (Great) Old Trafford Download Belfast Vital —- (Good/solid) London O2 12th Leeds ‘17 Manchester Arena —- (Okay) Etihad Eiffel Tower —- (Pretty naff) London O2 15th London O2 11th Edit: was telling people outside RAH that I’d love to hit 100 gigs one day but I guess that’s only happening if they put out another 8/9 albums or I up my output to something mental Not having seen Map is a travesty, but I’ve said before it’s easier to miss than people think! I didn’t get it for...6 years(?) and maybe 5 gigs after my first.
  11. Once on the first leg but six on the second, so seven total in I think 32 US arena shows overall. It was actually weirdly way more common in the US than anywhere else (only once in the UK and Canada). Obvs some songs will be more or less common than others, and some just once. Just wanted to show that songs in that vein do happen at the big gigs over there and consistently over the years, usually one or maybe two popping up a fair few times. Something like Glorious or Easily over here would’ve been like including Assassin ‘cos of the Mayan gig, tiny venue one-offs are naturally an extreme. Edit: curious if it might actually be worth getting the stats for those songs on those tours to work out what the ratios are, results might be a bit surprising. maybe after work tomorrow I’ll do a v mini write up.
  12. Oh yeah, I agree it would be nice to have songs like that sprinkled in more consistently, without demanding a slot at every gig or owt, so fans looking for them avoid having to play that lottery of hoping their gig is one of the relative few (‘specially w/ the distance needed to potentially travel somewhere like in the US). I just listed those in response to that specific point, though I can still understand why they’re less frequent over there even if I recognise it’s a shame dgmw.
  13. No but when you say that you think there’s an element of their touring that they do in a certain way because it doesn’t take any effort, I’m saying that doesn’t really fall in line with every other aspect of their touring so I’m pretty sure it’s down to something else. Which is also backed up by the fact that, like Tjet said, they’ve actively explained why they do it before. The setlists just about everywhere are mostly predictable to me, it’s just the ones with 1/2 fan favourites happen less often over there. The US arena and amphitheatre tours last era got all of them (minus Sunburn) plus TAB, Map and AP. T2L’s US arenas had Butterflies, Map, Bliss, Sunburn, Fury, Agitated, New Born and NSC (not a fan favourite but v rare). Even for TR, which was notoriously lacking in variation, there was RBS, CE and Bliss. They could break pattern next tour, sure, but there’s nothing to suggest it based on past evidence. Edit: though if I was them and I read half the stuff they do from the people they occasionally play these songs for (not singling out you btw) about how they hate fans, don’t care or put in effort etc, I’d wonder why bother playing any at all tbh. They aren’t blowing the competition away with this stuff but, tbh, there’s nothing saying they have to and they do more than a lot of other bands, who would just play exactly the same set night after night. I think they deserve more credit if anything.
  14. They aren’t lazy, you don’t book a schedule that busy, put that much thought into the production and look like your face is gonna pop for half the songs just to jump in a bus and travel to the next one if you’re a lazy live band. Saying it doesn’t take effort to do what they do is just massively off the mark. They’ve played plenty of rarities at big gigs over the years and, while the level of reaction might vary in different places of the world, the majority of the crowd is usually not massively engaged (at least visually and audibally, which is what Muse feed off). They’re always gonna play the new songs regardless ‘cos that’s kinda the point of an album tour and I agree NKOK was a poor choice but it was used purely as a break for Matt, not in service of the crowd. Everything else is what they think people are coming to see them for, and they’re right 90% of the time tbh. Even then, just about every tour, they still go to the effort of throwing the hardcores a bone every now and again with a Bliss or Sunburn or CE or Butterflies etc., depsite knowing it’s really just for us.
  15. I think that’s an overly-simplified way of describing their thought process. At the end of the day, I think they just wanna deliver what they think most people showing up to a gig wanna hear. Hence why songs specific to places show up (Resistance in the US, UD in Germany, probs more in others). That’s a mindset I can completely understand tbh. This happens pretty often actually tbf, just look at almost any big gig where a rarity gets played.
  16. Pretty sure it was the very last one he threw out before going to the mic to say cheers. Remember preparing for heartbreak when I saw he’d thrown all the others so quickly
  17. Even more than a guitar (is the chorus actually guitar? I assumed so but it seemed Chris played it high up on the bass live), the synth just needs to be beefed up imo. You need to feel it proper whomp for it to feel ‘big’ enough as an opener. Same’ll go for TV if/when that eventually gets played.
  18. Ah, I got dead excited then It’s close but not quite me, it wasn’t until the very last drumstick that Dom saw me and he’s still got two in that last picture if I’m looking right. Ah well, the image is burned into my mind anyway, don’t worry
  19. Ah, similar to my first time as well then, just mine was after a gig. Still a v special feeling to this day though, I agree (tho you were probs more composed than I was lmao) Noooo major jel. Looking back I kinda wish I’d stayed after SBE, my +1 did and met Matt properly as well, but I was wretching after the whole 24 hours and had a plane to catch so i thought, meh, another time did you not freeze up when he spoke to you? I barely managed to croak out “c c c can you sign this please” and “good gig btw” to him at Manchester Academy I guess I was a bit bolder at the O2 but, even then, you’re in a massive crowd and I remember thinking he wasn’t happy about my sign the first time Aye, Chris naturally seems quite introverted as most people probs guess. Still perfectly friendly but I tend to prefer to just let him get wherever he’s going. Would love to play footy with him though.
  20. I just wanna say it’s absolutely sad but Matt saying Starlight was “for all of you” (or something) actually made me go all “awww” internally at the time and still feels sweet now ‘cos I can’t remember the last time I heard him say something like that and it’s the closest I’ll ever come to having a song dedicated to me
  21. Suuuurely they can’t botch this segment? (inb4 “they already have” btw you fuckers) I mean, I can’t think of anything they could rotate in/out that could significantly downgrade it. Unless your fear is it just gets shorter and cool stuff gets left out?
  22. Nahhhh how did that go? Just in passing or did you actually get to talk? Dom may be the one I’d wanna chat to most. I mean, he is already the one I’ve talked to most but for, like, seconds in total I still believe it was ultimately him that got me Assassin at the O2 so maybe that plays a part but he just seems so friendly. Had a big, genuine smile each of the 3/4 times I’ve interacted with him. I’d love to pick Matt’s brain since he seems to have a v active one and he obvs has the appeal of actually writing the songs I love but he does have an air of intimidation about him, despite being 5’6/7
  23. Uprising was dedicated to the person/people who won the Omaze thing I think (sounded like two names), Starlight to the Prince’s Trust and crowd I think
