  1. What's this? EDIT: That only seems to be happening for me when watching it on the board. Try clicking and watching on youtube. Definitely don't watch it at such a shitty resolution. EDIT 2: Seems to have everything up to 720p available on the embed now. Didn't know 144p was even an option! Thanks
  2. Hot of the press. Odd time signatures, thunderstorms, exploding windmills, whammy abuse; hopefully something for everyone here. J2LvJAOSDcE
  3. Apologies for posting another video in here so soon after the last one but this time it's a proper live vid from a proper live show shot by someone else for a project of theirs so I wasn't really expecting to see it so soon: -Z5noO4KNCU
  4. Speaking of originals Got another of our 'Live Sessions' videos up on Youtube: H4_urhEE1Zg Bit more upbeat and groovy than almost every other song we have and a bit of an exercise in seeing how much stuff we could jam into 2 minutes of music.
  5. Ta guys. Pretty much our favourite song we've written at the moment so really love being able to share it!
  6. Live studio session of one of our latest songs for any post-rock type fanciers here: T5WZdeYhXV0 We've got a couple more tunes from the same session to put out in the coming weeks that I'll post in here too. In the meantime if you enjoy what you hear give us a like and check out more of our stuff on facebook.
  7. Ah right I'm with you, fair enough . In other news all this talk has led to me digging out the first mixes I ever did from college about 6 years or so ago. One of them is particularly horrific despite my thinking otherwise at the time: If I remember rightly we recorded all the guitars (and probably bass) through a Line 6 Pod and are EQ'd to more or less boost everything evenly between 30 and 10k so they sound just as fantastic as you might imagine... More embarrassingly it looks as though, for reasons unknown to man and science, I thought it was a good idea to clumsily gate the overheads and hi-hats. Guess how that worked out. Doesn't help that the song is well over 6 minutes long, includes a piano interlude and a minute long instrumental outro where I clearly thought I was Slash (spoiler alert: I'm not).
  8. Pretty much goes for any instruments that have overlapping frequency ranges. You only have so much 'space' in a mix and if you've got a lot of different elements competing for the same frequencies they'll end up losing definition and getting lost. The same principle can be applied to getting separation between different guitar tracks if you boost a frequency range for one and cut the same frequencies for the other. I normally knock a lot of the low end out of anything that's not a bass instrument/kick drum with an EQ or high pass just to make sure there's not any unnecessary clutter messing up my low end.
  9. Haha! It's just that I've never heard anything done in quite that way before but maybe the drummer really does play with the snare 30 feet to the side of the kick drum and I'm just misunderstanding the situation . I'm genuinely curious about the thought process that went into it because if anything you often find when people are first starting out that they don't make enough of a stereo image and that everything's straight down the middle. I mean there's some odd stuff going on with like the lead vocals being jarringly off to one side but back they were still playing around with how to mix in stereo and the choice for each element was hard left, hard right or centre. Even then it's not as bats as what your guitarist went for
  10. If you let me know what you're going to post next I'll be sure to try not to get in there and beat you to it again
  11. Motions without Motives sounds better than MWM anyway. The acronym makes it sound like you're an insurance company or something. Outside of the name chat here's my constructive criticism: At the very least either have a stab at mixing it yourself or get literally anyone else on the planet to do it. At the moment there's not really any 'production' to speak of outside of the frankly baffling panning choices made by whatever lunatic you had do that mix. I've honestly never heard a track where literally nothing occupies any of the centre space. It's a demo so you obviously don't need it to be some professionally mastered gem but a better mix will at the very least make it easier to listen to. If you've got multitracks why not let the good people of KnT have a crack at it. However, even if it is a demo and the production isn't quite up to snuff the performance from each person really should be. The drum fills are particularly ropey and really could use a bit more practice before hitting record. Same goes for the vocal: there's some fairly glaring tuning issues which need attention and the vocalist could really do with annunciating a lot more. What's the point of writing lyrics if you're going to mumble your way through them? There is some potential though if you get things sorted - bit of a Nirvana-ish vibe or something. Definitely not dreadful for a first original so keep at it. Edit: Totes stealing my ideas.
  12. Yeah it's awesome. I think it was actually something that you posted on here a fair while back that put me onto UNKLE - something about transferring one of their album covers to a surfboard if I remember rightly. Found out DJ Shadow had something to do with them and decided to check out their albums on the strength of that, haha.
  13. Hehe. Clearly ripping off early 2000s nerd-rock covers of '80s synth pop is the future. Maybe check to see if Weezer ever did any Soft Cell covers if you need new material . I should say for the record that I really did enjoy your track. Is it genuine live audio or is the performance mimed to a studio recording?
  14. Blatantly ripping off this: J-XMs81S0Jo Which is already a cover version...curiouser and curiouser. Edit: Also this: 0gYeJHPU0-A
  15. Depending on what sort of thing you want it for something like this might be suitable. I bought a couple of them and they work fine for the basic things we do in the band. Interestingly they're identical to the ones Maplin sell for 30 odd quid.
  16. You should rehouse something funky and/or boutique in the boss enclosure just to fuck with people. That was my initial idea until I decided it'd be too much effort.
  17. Not so far but I've only just rearranged it so we'll see after a gig or two. Only using the 'verb for one song at the moment where it's on the whole time whereas the Memory Man seems to be on about 85% of our tracks . If needs be I can always stick a block of wood or a couple of matchboxes under the Hall of Fame up a bit. Haha, tone machine indeed. I've done a bit of modding and tweaking on mine so it's actually pretty decent. Mainly use it to get some really grim feedback at the moment. I do know someone who uses a stock one as his main distortion...out of choice! Seems to work for him though.
  18. Shifted some stuff around to fit a reverb on my board and somehow ended up with more space than before. Slightly more practical layout too. Very happy with the sounds I'm getting at the moment.
  19. Anyone here got a reverb pedal they're looking to get rid of? I'm not sure what I'm after specifically at the moment because I've never really looked into them much but need one for playing a new song live.
