It's obviously not odd to use a single pedal. This is what I mean, I have written the advantages of a double kick many times, and you've either not read them, not taken them in, or are trying to argue in a childish manner. No-one has been able to justify not wanting one.

When someone has made a post, and then others replied to this post, it would make sense to read these replies, and reply to them, as well as supporting the original post. Simply quoting something I have already responded to (questioning the validity of several remarks) several times is a little annoying, as the next reader may address the quote, rather than look at the original post, and check the replies. Basically, it just seems like you're very closed to the points of view expressed in between the original post, and your quote. I'm sure you didn't mean to cause any annoyance, but a reply would be appreciated, as I would like someone (and you seem to feel very strongly about it) to explain to me why my view of "most drummers should have a double kick, especially in the studio" is wrong? Again, it's not about looking, or sounding impressive. It's about playing for a band.

Right, so it makes a good point to bring finance into it, as obviously double kicks are more expensive, and for the less well off drummer, there may be something more important to be bought for his kit. In my opinion, If you are a rock drummer, and you're going into the studio, there's not much that's more important than a well oiled double kick.

Why would it be low to bring finance into it? I personally would have bought a nice cymbol, kept the shitty single kick I had, and saved up for a double.

If anyone has actually read my arguments FOR double kick, and actually taken in what i'm trying to say, they certainly haven't posted! Do I have a communication problem? It's not about double bass rolls, or mental speed, or looking good, or not looking good. It sounds better! What? Why? Have you tried? Are you a recording engineer? Anyway, all this is BS. I was just trying to make the point, that if you have the money, no matter what you're playing, you should have a double kick. Even if you're the best heel-toer in the world, you should have a double kick, especially if you're in the studio with a rock band.

Portnoy is shit man. I appreciate you're trying to support the double kick, but showing respect to Portnoy the prick just neutralises the effect. Portnoy does have a couple of good beats on the liquid tension thing, but, it's just so shit! Just trying to show off. His drumming is nothing to do with the music, it's to do with HIS reputation.

I don't think there's been any hate or fighting on this thread. It's just a debate. I think some members come accross quite bitchy sometimes, but it's just a culture/language thing. No arguing here, no need to start any either, so shhh!

What's FTW mean? Also, we're not talking about bass drum rolls, we're talking about decent double kicking beats. Listen to Mashugga, (or most decent heavy bands). Very interesting, off beat and tight rythms, using a double kick. No doubt some of you could play these beats with a single kick, but it wouldn't record as strong. The producer would trigger his own kick sample while you were gone for a coffee.
  9. It's all in my sig, all the time, but when this thread starts a fresh page, I like to remind you that one of your number is in a great band that you should listen to. http://www.myspace.com/nologorock

I'm not talking about fast mad bass drum rolls a la Mike Portnoy(what a tit he is!). Keeping a pedal hat going is cool, I like that technique. You can do this with your left heel if you practise. I think it's a fair point to say that anything that can be done on a double kick, and not on a single kick, isn't worth doing. I deffinitely know what you're saying as regards Portnoy, Ulrich etc. Howver, some mental Slipknot, Mashugga, Watcha riffs, are given loads of energy by some tight, fast double kicking. This is a matter of opinion obviously. Anyway, the way to think of it, is to compare a double stroke on the snare, with two hits from two hands. There is an obvious and definite difference. A double kick is like having two hands, a single kick is like using double strokes, undoubtebly a useful skill to have, but you'd better be able to use both hands as well. Sorry, i'm finding it hard to construct decent scentences.

I said that double kicks give you the potential for more stylish beats. I realise i'm not a drummer, and so shouldn't really be in the argument, but you have to accept that there's nothing you can do with a single kick that you can't do with a double kick, and a hell of a lot easier. It's not about impressing someone with how fast you can go with one, or two feet. It's about what sounds better. When I talk about a tighter sound, it's from a producers point of view. A double kicker will generally play faster beats tighter, there will be less dynamic range between the two kicks (which is a bad thing in most situations, whether you think your single footed dynamic expression is stylish or not, some producer will compress is back out.) even better if there's two kick drums. I am dead serious about having your left foot on two pedals at once. It can be done easily. I never said double kicks are "absolutely more stylish". Style depends on the drummer, obviously. Some single kickers are really good and really stylish. I just think, that as young drummers, you should be expanding your potential. Even if you are amazing on a single kick, you'll be twice as amazing with a double.

Perfectly doesn't exist. Quality or technique is a matter of opinion. The hat pedal can easily be operated with the heel of your left foot, using the end of your foot for kick. A double kick makes for a tighter sound, as well as more stylish beats.

Why are there so many drummers on this board who don't like double kicks? Do you visit drummer world? All of the amazing drummers I watch use double kick, and manage to operate hats perfectly.

Did you mean to get a double kick but thought the single was half price? Easy mistake to make. I'd spend the money and get a double kick though.
  15. I know it's just a repetition of my sig, but I am not ashamed of my self promotion! Plus I would love to get some constructive criticism, especially on the mixes. 16. Hello again K&T people. Another unexplained 6 month absence from the board! Anyway, my band have a new demo finish, another in the pipeline. We have three full E.Ps up for download. The latest one "Signs" sounds really good imo. We recorded/mixed/mastered everything ourselves for the 2nd and 3rd EPs so any feedback on the sound would be appreciated. Signs from Feb 2006 mescaline/mezzanine from June 2005 Scalpel & Heart from April 2004 We have a myspace page now as well myspace.com/nologorock
  17. I play bass for a band called (no logo). We just finished our new E.P so maybe you could cWriticise the production. You can download the whole E.P from http://www.no-logo.ws/new/index.php?page=mmdls but if you can get them to play without a gap between tracks the experience will be better
  18. Thought i'd post my band's web address. There are a few downloads in the media section, let me know what you think http://www.no-logo.co.uk
