MUSE tour history in Lyon, France

January 2000 - Ninkasi club - 300 capacity

July 2000 - Ancient Theatre at Fourvière - Built in the 1st century BC, completed in the 2nd century AD, and restored in the 20th century

2001, 2003, 2006 and 2009 - Halle Tony Garnier -  17K capacity

2023 - Groupama Stadium - 59K capacity

Review translated from Le Progrès newspaper:

"For its first concert in the stadium in Lyon, Matt Bellamy's group showed all its know-how and satisfied the fans, with a show lasting more than two hours. Between pyrotechnic effects, and 25 songs never overplayed, Muse seems to have reached its high point this Thursday evening in front of the 59,000 people present. The three Britons offered a generous concert, which gave pride of place to all the eras of the group, and which knew how to satiate the musical appetite of the Lyonnais."

Review from The Guardian:

"Sublimely ridiculous rock’n’roll camp...With pyrotechnics that might tire a pyromaniac and a giant blow-up Satan, the Devonian stadium-fillers have lost none of their thrilling pomp..."

Danke sehr. I need to hire a copy editor. LOL. I also forgot to mention these two other iconic artists influenced by Bach:

"If you love Bach, Mozart, Chopin and Beethoven, you can’t help but be influenced. They wrote the greatest melodies and the most beautiful things of all time," Elton John told the invited crowd of music industry figures at the Royal Academy of Music which he joined  as a piano student when he was 11 years old.

Nina Simone's first musical love was Johann Sebastian Bach.

"Each note you play is connected to the next note, and every note has to be executed perfectly or the whole effect is lost. Once I understood Bach's music I never wanted to be anything other than a concert pianist. Bach made me dedicate my life to music.

She plays a stunning Bach-style fugue in the middle of one of her classic songs ...

Quote below from Nina Symone, singer-songwriter, classical pianist, and civil rights activist in honor of celebrating Juneteenth in America. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

''An artist's duty, as far as I am concerned, is to reflect the times.   I think that is true of painters, sculptors, poets, musicians. As far as I'm concerned, it's their choice, but I choose to reflect the times and situations in which I find myself."

'Feeling Good'  UK Singles Chart (Peak Positions):

#24  MUSE (2001)  -  Gold 400,000 certified units/sales (BPI) - Released as a double A-side single with 'Hyper Music' in 2001 and charted again from 2008-11

#40  Nina Symone (1994) - Platinum 600,000 (BPI)

#69  Michael Bublé (2010) - Gold 400,000 (BPI)

What is the oldest track appearing on a studio album that has yet to be played live in its full version?  Demo instrumental versions were first played at Leeds and Reading in 2001 and very brief intro teases were played at gigs in Brazil and NYC in 2008 and 2018, respectively.  The song about forgotten memories was originally titled World Crumbling.

Lena Hall, Tony Award winning singer and actress, covered it beautifully on the 10th set of Obsessed digital 4-track EPs she released in 2018.

The 2023 WOTP worldwide tour is on target to become the band's 2nd consecutive tour to gross over US$100 million in one calendar year after their ST worldwide tour did so in 2019.

The number of career MUSE headlining arena shows at the O2 in London will total 13 with the just announced two dates in October 2023 breaking a tie with the Bercy Arena in Paris which has 11.

The band's 15 April 2016 in-the-round gig at this venue set an attendance record with 21,000 tickets sold which was later broken by Metallica in October 2017 with over 22K concert-goers at each of their shows.

The O2 arena located on the Greenwich Peninsula will be the second venue in the United Kingdom to generate over US$20 million in ticket sales revenue for MUSE after Wembley stadium became the first to cross this threshold with the band's four massive shows in 2007 and 2010.

Below is a break-down of box office figures for MUSE shows at the O2 arena in London by year:

2009  38,130  $2,143,494  £1,303,012  (2 shows)

2012  34,200  $2,854,786  £1,766,335  (2 shows)

2016  92,167  $8,202,360  £5,708,895  (5 shows)

2019  30,600  $3,566,648  £2,934,040  (2 shows)

2023  32,000  $4,000,000  £3,200,000  (2 shows)  - Estimate based on an average ticket price of 100 quid

Bernexpo Areal Openair Gig on 12 July 2023

One of the wettest MUSE gigs ever...

Estimated Average Ticket Price:  150 CHF [173 USD]  - Everything in Switzerland is more expensive

Capacity:  30,000

“There was only one date that could play for Muse in their schedule and the Wankdorf [stadium in Bern] was not free. Suddenly, we found this plan B. We had to set up a gigantic tier of 6000 seats, a stage 57m wide and 18m high, food and drink stands as well as toilets. The overall budget is just over three million [Swiss] francs. It costs more than a stadium since you have to bring everything," explains Sébastien Vuignier [from promoter Takk Productions]. "The Muse team represents around 80 people and the concert will also be supported by 350 people on site. The Muse tour also requires 21 semi-trailers [artics] of technical equipment as well as six tour buses."  -  www.20min.ch

"The Muse: Will Of The People World Tour 2023 concert brought together more than 53,000 fans of the band from Devon, England which took place at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur earlier.

The world tour concert of the band consisting of Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard organized by Hello Universe saw many fans born in the 1990s gather to 'meet' their favorite band.

Although the three musicians have each passed the 40-year-old age line, that didn't stop them from producing quite an energetic performance tonight.

Not interacting much during the performance, Muse's vocalist Matt Bellamy managed to chant a few phrases in Malay such as 'selamat peteng' (even though it was already evening) and the words 'thank you' were expressed many times as a sign of appreciation for the fans who came to watch their performance."

This MUSE concert was likely the the largest attended gig so far at this Malaysian stadium venue by a Western artist and may have grossed over $6 million assuming an average ticket price of $115 (500 Ringgit).  Coldplay will likely break this box office record in November with over 60K fans in attendance.
