New Manson MBK3 pickups

musecasters

Recommended Posts

i had a good chat with Adrian at mansons on Saturday about their new pickups, none on a Mattocaster yet but they're very chuffed about the new style. from what he was saying is they spent ages getting it right, and spending time what works in many types of guitars... i might be tempted for my laser plank

Tim from Mansons on the new set:

"The MBK-3 set isn't based on the Warpig, it's a totally separate animal.

The bridge pickup has 3 ceramic magnets as opposed to Alnico V, giving a

much tighter bass response and plenty of punch. It's not as powerful as

the Warpig. MBK-3 br comes in at 15.13 K ohms, Warpig br 22 k ohms. This

doesn't mean its a weaker pickup though.

The neck pick up has Alnico V magnets and comes in at 11.40 K ohms

This pickup set has outstanding tone, it produces all the power you need

for a big sound, but cleans up beautifully.

Crisp tight bottom end with a big open glassy sound for the cleans.

We are only selling them as sets at this time I'm afraid."

I'm building my chrome bomber replica and i think this set coud be the choice!

They look essentially like Dimazio Super distortions, with 12 pole adjustable and shiney covers! About the same output too (PAF-style neck, hot bridge, all alnico 5). I'd love to hear them though, but I feel there's a lot out there like this already if you look at pickup suppliers.

get some next month then ;)

i wonder how these will sound coil tapped. (they appear to be four conductor anyway) the MBK2 sounds great when coil tapped.

only have it wired up for a tap in one guitar though, so it might sound a bit thin in others. that brazilian mahogany sounds great. i actually thought it was a myth until i saw tom's stash.

looks like the headstock on the new one is satin silver.

;) yeah, i think if it were the other finish, it would be easy enough to see there.

i actually liked that guitar a lot - not too sure about the bridge, but it looked pretty nice. do you think (besides the double neck) any of those new guitars he's apparently having built will be a different shape?

I can't see him changing the shape now to be honest. It's possible though.

Has anyone tried these pups?

How do they sound?

yes,

distorted they were great, but i didn't love their clean sound. seems like it was driving the front end of the amp too hard.

i'd recommend the MBK-2 over the MBK-3 since it's an all around great sounding pickup, while the MBK-3 is best at distorted tones.

Thanks, was the neck pickup bad on clean channel?

Were they coil tappable?

They can be coil split, yes, and I can't answer that sorry - I only had the bridge pickup in a single pickup guitar.

You could probably get plenty of sounds with a MBK-1 neck pickup and a MBK-3 in the bridge.
